VT or paravirtualization?
Hello,
What is the better solution now to run linux domUs under Xen3?
Using a VT hardware, sould I install a xen-patched kernel as I would
where no VT extension, or use an unmodified linux guest system?
Is there any performance difference between a Pentium D 3 Ghz with vt
(9xx) and without it (8xx)?
Regards,
Slapic

cpufreq problems with hvm
Hi all,
I was wondering if cpu frequency scaling in dom0 (using the cpufreq=dom0-kernel
boot parameter) may cause problems with HVM domUs? This is on Xen 3.2.1.
PV domUs seem to work just fine. They adjust to the frequency change on the go.
The HVM I run using the unmodified_driver drivers (also from the 3.2.1 release)
seem to have very slow timers if dom0 lowers the frequency.

Check if VT is enabled
Hello group,
I recently purchased an HP m7360n computer which has an Intel Pentium D 920
processor in it. Unfortunately there is no BIOS option to enable or disable
VT. The board it sits on uses the Intel 945P chipset.
If I am in linux and do a ''cat /proc/cpuinfo'' I get this:
[root@localhost ia32]# cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor : 0
vendor_id : GenuineIntel

Very poor VMX performance
After several days of problems, I finally got Xen 3.0.1 set up in Ubuntu
Breezy with the 2.6.12 kernel on a VT-enabled system with an Intel 930
processor and 2GB of memory.
I have been able to install an unmodified guest without any issues other
than performance. The guest runs extremely slowly and the mouse and keyboard
are all but useless because of the extreme lag. I''ve tried multiple

VT-x and frontend/backend drivers
Hello,
As I saw in this mailing list, there should be some
emulation solution for drivers when using VT-x processors.
See for example :
http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-devel/2005-12/msg00763.html
My question is this;
As I understand, the VMX support in the new VT-x processors
enables us to prevent Guest OSs from performing
unwanted instructions (HLT , for example). This

OS/2 and eComStation
Hi,
Hoping someone can help me with some question on Xen
3.x and Intel VT (Vanderpool) hardware.
Can IBM OS/2 or Serenity Systems eComStation now be
run with Xen and Intel Vanderpool enabled CPUs?
If not, what is needed?
Are any drivers needed?
Do you know of anyone working on getting Xen to
support OS/2 or eComStation?

Do you have anything detailing what the goal of each phase in Xenrt is?
Phases 4 and 5 seem to be pretty much identical.
Thanks,

Hardware compatibility - Dell Inspiron 6400 or thinkpad t60?
Hi,
Since a while I am curious to buy a machine with hardware virtualization
support. Finally, they start to become available here in Germany.
So, I want to get such a machine. I want to buy a dell inspiron 6400 or
an IBM thinkpad T60 which are said to have such a mobile processor with
hardware virtualization - does anybody have experiences with these?
Looking in the Hardware compatibility

basic question on how to compile 2.4 xen
Hi
Can someone help me figure out a way to compile a 2.4 kernel in a 2.6
system. Basically it keeps failing because it needs the genksyms
package, which is provided in the modutils package from redhat, but
obviously this isn''t presetn on the 2.6 kernel.
I was wondering how the xen maintainers go about compiling their 2.4
kernel and 2.6 kernel. Do you do it on different systems then

Xen 3
Hello list
Sorry if this is an FAQ but I have just joined the ML\after reading about Xen
in a magazine article.
I run almost exclusively x86_64 hardware these days and am wondering how
x86_64 support is coming along. The article mentions support for x86_64 in
V3, due it says this Summer.
Are there any developer x86_64 versions available to try yet?
Thanks

Hello folks
I played a lot with Xen last days,
isnt it possible to access PCI devices which are hidden
from dom0?
I didnt get it - at least my windows domain didnt get it.
Another question:
Im using hvmloader but many pages also talk about the vmxloader,
was it prior the hvmloader coz it doesnt exist anymore?
cheers

Unmodified 2003/2000/FC5 on XEN 3.0.2
I can see that Windows Loads in VM and when I run in safe mode it
reaches until loading
multi(0)\disk(0)\rdisk(0)\partition(1)\Windows\system32\drivers\Mup.sys
After this it hangs.Attached is the qemulog.
Note : These VM''s are running out of a complete disk (/dev/sdb), which
has working installation of Windows on it!
I am running FC5 along with Xen 3.0.2 (tried unstable too) on

Re: unable to access Linux HVM via xm console - Couldnot read tty from store: No such file or directory
HVM = fully virtualized. The question is, why are you using fully virtualized domUs? Why not paravirtualized (PV)?

It is possible to install Windows XP with intel vt now ?
Hi everybody,
I seen many post on running Windows XP on the top of Xen with proper
hardware (Intel Vt) ... I would like to know if at this time, i could do
that with Xen 3.0.2-2 or Xen unstable ? If yes, could you tell me the
procedure ...
In 2 week i will make a show with Intel to demonstrate this possibility ...
If at this time we couldn''t, i will change the contents of the show ;)
