Pthreads Overhead
Hi all, I have been seeing a considerable (2x-3x) overhead when using Posix pthreads and pthreads mutux synchronization on Xen dom0. I am not sure if this is an inherent overhead of Xen or a wrong configuration on my side. Basically, I run a simple benchmark to time pthread_create and pthread_mutex_lock/unlock for 200 threads and the overhead I am measuring for xen dom0 is 1.5x-2.9x relative to

[PATCH] BUG on error handlings in Ext3 under I/O failure condition
Hello. I found bugs on error handlings in the functions arround the ext3 file system, which cause inadequate completions of synchronous write I/O operations when disk I/O failures occur. Both 2.4 and 2.6 have this problem. I carried out following experiment: 1. Mount a ext3 file system on a SCSI disk with ordered mode. 2. Open a file on the file system with O_SYNC|O_RDWR|O_TRUNC|O_CREAT

AW: xenified 2.6.29 ready to use tar.gz
Hi Daniel, i''ve tested your kernel with slight modifications to your .config (-> domU only) on 64bit 3.2.1 and 3.3 as guest kernel. Compared to the classic 2.6.18.8 the guests are consuming about 25% more CPU, network IO increased by about 15%, disk IO also. Memory footprint is about 10% less. Maybe there are better caching strategies built into this 2.6.29. I''d like to try

reencoding experience
On a Linux server (2.4.29) with 3.0GHz PIV and 1GB memory, ices 0.4 sending to icecast 2.2 on the same machine without re-encoding will not even touch the 1 minute load average in the normal kbps/KHz range. With re-encoding, however, the 1 minute load average varies between 0.7 and less than 2.5, which could impact server performance with high listener counts. The files I was testing were not

another solution would be to reencode mp3 files at the wanted bitrate first, and then serve them via ices to icecast ;) On Wed, 5 Oct 2005 11:43:27 -0600 (MDT) Anno Domini, the honourable Robert Muchnick wrote using one of his keyboards: > On a Linux server (2.4.29) with 3.0GHz PIV and 1GB memory, ices 0.4 > sending to icecast 2.2 on the same machine without re-encoding will > not even

Help with PDC hardware
Hey everyone. Our network has a PII 350Mhz Windows NT server. It serves as our PDC. It also serves our email, print and file sharing needs. We have plans of totally phasing out this computer. There are two candidates for the replacement of our PDC. One is a PIV 1.7Ghz with 768MB of memory (hostname: Karou). This computer is currently our intranet web server. The other computer is a PIV 2.8Ghz

Backgroundrb needs a new maintainer.
Hello All- Is there anyone out there that wants to take over as maintainer of the backgroundrb project? I feel bad because I know lots of folks use it but I absolutely do not have time to work on it anymore :(. I''m looking for a new maintainer, I would give you all the access to the project you need and try to help you come up to speed on the codebase. If anyone is

Smart cards, mostly solved
So, it *seems* to be working, pretty much. I needed to install opensc, openct pcsc-lite, pcsc-lite-openct, and ctapi-common will be installed as a dependency. I *removed* coolkey and esc, which depended on it. 100% of the time, they misidentifed the new/current US federal ID PIV-II cards as coolkey cards, and popped up this "phone home" window, then a "manage smartcards"

firefox unable to load pkcs11 module
Hi Tony, Have you solved this problem yet?I took another approach and used CACkey which supportsUS Government PIV cards including the CAC.? In my case I set it up on Linux Mint but there is an rpm version of CACKey for 32 or 64 bit Centos. Here is the process I went through. - setup CAC card by following instructions on: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CommonAccessCard sudo apt-get install

Securing database from your provider?
Hi. If i had a RoR application dealing with very reserved personal informations about my customers, if my hosting provider would like to, i guess it would be easy for him to steal the data by simply peeking the username and password inside the database.yml file. Is there a way to hide the database password from indiscrete eyes ? Thanks, Marcus Ob. -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.
