My associations are coming out nil.
I''ve got a fairly simple system with a table for my Users that includes a CountryId field which looks up to the CountryId field of my Country table. What I would like to happen is for my Rails application, which contains models for both User and Country, to be able to draw the dropdown list of available countries on the edit page, like it does in all the tutorials. My model classes look

Rails 2.0 rescue_from
I am trying to use the new Rails 2.0 macro : rescue_from class PostsController < ApplicationController rescue_from ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound, :with => :deny_access ... def show @post = Post.find_by_id(params[:id]) raise ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound if @post.nil? #illegal access ..... end def deny_access respond_to do |format| format.html end end but the

"Quiz" site
Hi, I am thinking about how to best design a quiz site in RoR. I think it should be fairly easy, but have run into a wall. In the simplest form, the view would grab all of the questions for a particular quiz and display them (e.g. multiple choice, so 4 option buttons per question). However, I can''t figure out how to "mark" the quiz. The form is submitted to the

Agile Web Dev on Rails - ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound Prob
Hi there I''ve also made a start on the Agile Web Dev using Rails book! I''ve been hit with a problem when hitting the ''Add to Cart'' button - I get the following error message: ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound in StoreController#add_to_cart Couldn''t find Product without an ID RAILS_ROOT: ./script/../config/.. Repost: Why is rails generating bad SQL?
It looks like I am missing something obvious. ActiveRecord is generating _really_ bad SQL for this configuration, and I can''t quite figure it out. I''ve instrumented ActiveRecord enough to localize the problem somewhat, and generally by this time I would have a good idea of what I was missing because it''s all in the source. It appears that something in

I am attempting to document a join between two tables. There seems to be no writing to my database. Please help me out it is driving me absolutly crazy. Basically i''ve got a table of directors that is called when the new/edit controller model for films is activated. It shows the user a selectable list of directors they can apply to films. error message for record not found ?
I''m using backgroundrb for session management and deletion of visitor-entered information when a session is abandoned. The visitor can either click a button to end their session and remove their data, or backgroundrb will do it for them after 5 minutes of inactivity. Everything''s working fine, I think. If the visitor explicitly logs out, then when the worker checks for their

Radio_button in loop problem
Hi all, I can''t figure out why my radio_buttons won''t reflect the values stored in my database. I read through some of the previous posts -- is it true that they don''t work with integers? This is the code I''m using: <% for question in @survey.questions %> <%= debug question %> <%= radio_button ( "question", :question_id,

many to many link table compound primary key explosion
Hi, I have a many-to-many relationship between two tables, questions and answers. My MySQL schema for the link table creates a primary key from the two fields to prevent duplicate records. When I add the same answer to the same question more than once, rails attempts to create a duplicate record and explodes with a MySQL error: MysqlError: Duplicate entry ''3-3'' for key 1:

Pass infomation between different views and controllers
Hi, I am a rails and ruby nuby :-) How do you pass data between different controllers and views? I have a page ( a quote) that I am editing url ....quote/edit/6 6 id the current id. Passing variables across forms
I''ve been reading my Agile Dev book over and over again, but I can''t wrap my head around how to do this. There''s a question and answer portion site of my site. You begin the process by adding a question to the database. After that, the program should redirect you straight to adding an answer for that question. The problem is, I don''t know how to keep

Multiple checkboxes
Please could someone suggest what might be wrong here. In my view I''m displaying a series of check boxes and when the form is submitted I want the controller to iterate over the values and contatenate them all into a string "1" if the box was checked and "0" if it wasn''t. I''m new to Ruby and Rails and I can''t seem to get any values out of

Tags to ruby interface: What I am missing? (repost)
I offer my apologies in advance for the repost. On a list as busy as this, it is sometimes easy to get missed in the shuffle. I am trying to create, display and edit a referenced object''s text field on the same view as my root object. For example: ------------------------- Quiz: <<quiz.name>> Preamble: <<quiz.preamble_presentation.text>> Postamble:

strange errors in dev.log and webserver log
Hi guys, I have encountered a strange error in one of my applications. The details are the following: The application is a very simple one, I have one model, Cards, it has some pretty basic stuff, some after_save methods for saving uploaded files to their places. I have an UI where I can manage the Card records, with the default methods, including ''edit'' cards_controller.rb:

Example controller spec no worky?
I''m trying to spec a dead simple "show non-existent record should render 404" case, but it seems the RecordNotFound exception is making it impossible for some reason. #controller def show @event = Event.find(params[:id]) end #spec - pretty much straight from the rspec site before do Event.stub!(:find) get :show, :id => ''broken'' end #
