OCF2 and LVM
Does anybody knows if is there a certified procedure in to
backup a RAC DB 10.2.0.3 based on OCFS2 ,
via split mirror or snaphots technology ?
Using Linux LVM and OCFS2, does anybody knows if is
possible to dinamically extend an OCFS filesystem,
once the underlying LVM Volume has been extended ?
Thanks in advance

SUSE Patches
Hello all,
I am running SLES9 with the latest kernel patches (2.6.5-7.282-bigsmp)
and ocfs2 version (1.2.1-SLES), I was wondering if anyone had any info
on if the latest ocfs2 will be included in SLES anytime soon. Or how to
get the patches from Novell. Thanks in advance!

OCFSv2 in a mail cluster environment
Hello,
First, thanks to all the people who helped to license this software under
the GPL. This is a very important piece of work for the Free Software in the
Enterprise Market.
Just a few newbie questions. We've been thinking about implmenting a mail
cluster with a Fiber SAN (IBM DS-4000) and OCFSv2 as the storage
backend. The information on this volume will essentially be Postfix

Slow concurrent actions on the same LVM logical volume
Hi 2 all !
I have problems with concurrent filesystem actions on a ocfs2
filesystem which is mounted by 2 nodes. OS=RH5ES and OCFS2=1.2.6
F.e.: If I have a LV called testlv which is mounted on /mnt on both
servers and I do a "dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/test.a bs=1024
count=1000000" on server 1 and do at the same time a du -hs
/mnt/test.a it takes about 5 seconds for du -hs to execute:

Memdisk + Freedos problem
I and some other people have problems with running the freedos image included in
Ultimate Boot CD (UBCD), when using memdisk for floppy emulation.
Memdisk starts booting the image and freedos shows the following menu:

1 Boot UMBPCI (silent)
2 Boot UMBPCI (optimal)
3 Boot UMBPCI (semi-defensive)
4 Boot EMM386 (optimal)
5 Boot EMM386 (semi-defensive)

Problem with rsync on WinXP going to HP-UX or Linux
Hi,
I can't get rsync from a PC to an HP-UX or Linux box to work,
and am hoping for a pointer or two.
I checked the FAQ and googled ... with no luck, so I hope this isn't
a patently obvious newbie problem :)
I just got interested in trying to use rsync to backup my WinXP PC to
a Linux or HP-UX computer. I got the cygwin package from Robert

ocfs2 cluster becomes unresponsive
We are running OCFS2 on SLES9 machines using a FC SAN. Without warning both nodes will become unresponsive. Can not access either machine via ssh or terminal (hangs after typing in username). However the machine still responds to pings. This continues until one node is rebooted, at which time the second node resumes normal operations.
I am not entirely sure that this is an OCFS2 problem at all

Will samba work on Linux/486 with heavy swapping?
I'm very sorry about posting HTML. I know better then that and should have
double checked my defaults. I'm reposting this hoping someone
Is there a known bug that samba has on older machines in low memory
environments? I have set up a 486 with 24Mb of memory with RedHat 7.1. I set
it up to run dhcpd, xinetd, and samba. Samba was not run through xinetd. The

Locate first index
Hi, all. I'd like to know if exists a manner to get the first index where
a condition is attained in a vector. For example,
There is a better solution than
first.index <- table(subject[corretor==27])[1]
(give me the subject for the first time that corretor is 27)?
Thanks,

Re: ext3, S/W RAID-5 and many services
I am having the exact same problems with my linux box.
I have a 486, 24Mb of ram, and a RAID 1 partition. The box runs dhcp, xinetd, telnetd, and samba. It currently only serves the RAID 1 partition via samba to a single Win98 box.
Under any large file transfer to the linux box, regardless of which machine initiates the x-fer, the linux box kernel panics and dies. Currently, I have tried

(performance) time in Windows vs Linux
Hi, all.
I began to migrate my R codes from Windows to Linux and surprised me
with an old question. I simplified the problem and made a little test to compare times at same
computer and the Linux time is worse (not so little) than Windows time:
28 vs 53 seconds.
I make an example (below) to facilitate all to see the difference.
I also build from source (it's my first time) a version of R to

hardware needed for OCFS
Hi,
Does OCFS require NAS hardware to run or does normal PC hard disk work?
Thanks,

making Samba works together with PAM
Ok fellows,
This is my last try. Please, anybody tell me if
something is missing on this list!
I need to setup on a Linux + Samba (PDC) to restrict
just one login per ID (not allow two logins with same
id).So:
1 - edit /etc/pam.d/samba -> chaging session line with
session required /lib/security/pam_limits.so
2 - in /etc/security/limits.conf:
* - maxlogins 1
3 - in smb.conf:

adding bmp/jpg/gif to an existing plot
Hi, all.
I searched a lot at mailing list, installed EBImage and gtk packages, but I
couldn't make this simple work:
How to add a image file (jpg or bmp ou gif) to an existing plot window (not
plot over the image), like the code below (pseudo function add.image):
plot(1:10,1:10,main="test")
image = read.X("myimage.jpg")

evaluating and walking in names
Hi, all.
Suppose I have an object with names (like a data.frame) and I want to walk
in a loop with your names. How can I do this? The idea is like this:
my.data<-data.frame(matrix(runif(6),ncol=2))
names(my.data)
[1] "X1" "X2"
for(i in names(my.data)){
my.variable <- cat(paste("my.data$", i, "\n", sep=""))
print(mean(my.variable))

6 node cluster with unexplained reboots
We just installed a new cluster with 6 HP DL380g5, dual single port Qlogic 24xx HBAs connected via two HP 4/16 Storageworks switches to a 3Par S400. We are using the 3Par recommended config for the Qlogic driver and device-mapper-multipath giving us 4 paths to the SAN. We do see some SCSI errors where DM-MP is failing a path after get a 0x2000 error from the SAN controller, but the path gets puts
