How To Spec Controllers with Finders
Given this code (which renders rjs), I''m faced with the fixture- driven way of spec-ing or mocking. How the heck to you mock this so the code at line (2) and (4) work right? I''m still struggling with mocks but it seems like this can be done. Forgive the naivety of this question. 1. def change_quantity 2. @line_item = LineItem.find_by_id(params[:id]) 3. unless

Passing quantity in a shopping cart
I am using this line on my index.rhtml page to capture the quantity required of a particular item for a basic shopping cart app: <%= text_field ''line_item'', ''quantity'', {:size=>3} %> </td> but my next screen (a cart screen) doesn''t reflect what was entered in that text field when the item is added to the cart. That is,

I have been working through the Agile Web Development with Rails book doing the Depot tutorial. I have completed it and it works but I cant say I understand how and why. My question is this "After adding products to the Cart, how do I then give users the option to delete just one item and not empty the whole cart?" I''ve been playing around with all sorts of code, just making

Agile Depot Tutorial Help
anyone can explain me why in the Agile Depot Tutorial application they use i.product_id to find if a product already exist in the cart, because the cart contains items, each of them references a product. I tried i.product_id like in the tutorial and i.product.i all of these 2 notation works , but i find the second seems more clean??? isn''t it. Any explanation will be fine Regards

Cannot see what I have done wrong.
In the Agile Rails tutorial I am revisiting building a cart. I have followed the steps given in the book to create the class ''Cart'' thus: class Cart attr_reader :items attr_reader :total_price def add_product(product) @items << LineItem.for_product(product) @total_price += product.price end def initialize @items = [] @total_price = 0.0 end

Sale, pop and product
Hi, I couldn''t find a better word for pop, but let''s go: There are 3 models: sale, pop and product sale: -total:integer pop: -quantity:integer -discount:float product: -name:string -price:float A sale can have many different products, each one has a quantity and discount associated. So each sale has_many :products through => pops And each product has_many :sales

What to call a class: Manifest? Configuration? ResourceContainer?
Hi all, I''ve got a new class in the current code, which I''ve been calling Configuration but Matt reasonably thinks is horrible. He is recommending the name Manifest, and I figured I''d see what others thought. The point of the class is to function as a resource container -- it keeps a reference to all of the resources we''re managing, and knows how to

Railscast 75, Observe_field and Shopping Cart

I am using observe_field to observe the ''quantity'' and ''cost'' fields to update the total field for each item. This does not work however, for records that are added through the Ajax. How can i name the fields and observe them as i have

Authentication design/ideas
Hi all, I''m using acts_as_authenticated for the front end facing part of my site. I have a model called Customer. I now want to protect the admin sides of things. I am thinking of using Ezra''s acl plugin (http://opensvn.csie.org/ezra/rails/plugins/dev/acl_system2/README) for this. My only problem is that I don''t want the model for admin users to be called Customer,

NA or work around ??
I've searched and tried several ideas (na.action. and other things), but I can't see to figure this out. I'm guessing this is so simple I'll feel foolish for asking, but here goes. Thanks, L.A. Best way to structure this?
I''m thinking of an application in which a user can request for different items (like office stationery). So, I have a table of users and a table of requests. The thing is that depending on the item requested, the parameters are different - for example, pens may have {colour, width, type} while paper may have parameters such as {colour, size (A4, letter, legal), stack size,
