[Fwd: Re: Ocfs and EMC Powerpath]
That should say below, we are using Powerpath on the CX300's AND the
CX600's...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
We are using Powerpath with CX300's and Emulex HBA's, also with OCFS on
Red Hat 2.1 AS.
Kernel upgrades are the biggest issue that we have, as some of the
drivers are dependent on modules built for specific kernels, and if your

Ocfs and EMC Powerpath
A couple years ago, we moved to Oracle RAC on Linux using ocfs that is
SAN attached to an EMC CLARiiON. At the time, there was a reason that we
did NOT use EMC's Powerpath (I just can't recall what that reason was).
What I'd like to know is if there are any issues with introducing
Powerpath now.

* 2.4.9-e.38enterprise

Can OCFS and GFS co-exist on the same RHEL 3 RAC node??
Dear Experts,
One of our client wants to use OCFS for their 9i RAC(2 node) on RHEL3 and
also use GFS on the nodes. Would there be any issues using OCFS for Oracle
9i RAC and using GFS for failing over things like print services on the same
node? Has this been tested? I know these are competing products and
OCFS 2.0is not an option now for the client. They need GFS for their
custom apps.
Any ideas

Disappointing Performance Using 9i RAC with OCFS on Linux
Wim,
Thanks for your prompt response on this. The tpmC figures look very
impressive, and tpmC is read intensive.
I had already read note 236679.1 "Comparing Performance Between RAW IO
vs OCFS vs EXT2/3" which I guess is the article to which you are
referring; it made me suspect that the poor performance was due to the
lack of an OS IO cache but I wasn't sure.

OCFS Performance on a Hitachi SAN
I've been reading this group for a while and I've noticed a variety of comments regarding running OCFS on top of path-management packages such as EMC's Powerpath, and it brought to mind a problem I've been having.
I'm currently testing a six-node cluster connected to a Hitachi 9570V SAN storage array, using OCFS 1.0.12. I have six LUNs presented to the hosts using HDLM,

My node is restarted when running OCFS
Hi,
I am trying to install Oracle 9i RAC on SLES 8 SP3
with a shared firewire disk.
I am using the following OCFS:
OCFS Release 1.0.11-1 for suse sp3 2.4.21-138 smp kernel
ocfs-2.4.21-138-smp-1.0.11-1.i586.rpm

ocfs-support-1.0.10-1.i386.rpm

performance when using securepath or powerpath
For those customers that are on this list and are using EMC Powerpath or
HP Securepath and have performance problems while using ocfs and point
to ocfs first.
the actual io overhead for an io on ocfs compared to raw, when it's
database io is negligable, we don't do any locking, we have about 40000
clockticks of processing from logical to physical offset, nothingin

problem with OCFS label
I used this command to create volume label on OCFS:
mkfs.ocfs -F -b 128 -L data13 -m /oradata/data13 -u oracle -g dba -p 0775 /dev/emcpowerp1
emcpowerp is composed of /dev/sdad and /dev/sdk. It seems the above command created the same labels for /dev/emcpowerp1, /dev/sdad1 and /dev/sdk1.
But when I tried to mount this ocfs filesystem by label, it gave me the following error.
# mount -L data13

A couple more minor questions about OCFS and RHE L3
Sort of a followup...
We've been running OCFS in sync mode for a little over a month now,
and it has worked reasonably well. Performance is still a bit spotty, but
we're told that the next kernel update for RHEL3 should improve the
situation. We might eventually move to Polyserve's cluster filesystem for
its multipathing capability and potentially better performance, but at least

Fwd: RE: OCFS Hang
Oh yeah - easy way to check, Randy:
Next time your node hangs, get on the OTHER NODE and go into each
directory where files are being opened (datafiles, archivelogs,
controlefiles, redo logs, etc) and delete a file (you can create one
first then delete it). If this causes the hung node to recover then
you're having the same problem I was having.

Expanding OCFS on EMC MetaLUN's
Just wanted to see if anyone has had the opportunity to expand a MetaLUN
on an EMC CLARiiON.
The O/S is Red Hat AS 2.1 running Oracle 9i RAC (4 node). The
filesystems are a series of LUNs combined into a MetaLUN that is
formatted and mounted as OCFS.
We are ready to expand a MetaLUN, but wanted to see if anyone has done
this "on the fly", ie: Expand the MetaLUNs while the systems are

ocfs performance
Hi,
I'm new to the list, so forgive me if I'm asking several naive questions
that have been answered a dozen times before.
I have RHAS with kernel version 2.4.9-e.10smp, running
ocfs-support-1.0-2, ocfs-tools-1.0-2, ocfs-2.4.9-e.10-smp-1.0-2. I have
Oracle 9iR2 RAC up and running on an IBM fiber channel architecture. I
find it to be extremely slow compared to other stand alone

ocfs issues with 9.2.0.3
I am starting to see a few issues with OCFS and 9.2.0.3 RAC on
redHat Linux AS 2.1. Wondering if there is anyone out there
experiencing similar issues...
a few pointers to the issues..
1. OCFS read/write performance is way lower than a read/write to a raw
device.. i can give you some comparison numbers..
2. Writes to shared disk with ocfs would get locked up by one server..
it doesnt have to

OCFS & Red Hat AS 4
I'm attempting to build the inexpensive 10g RAC cluster as
outlined in Jeffrey Hunter's paper "Build Your Own
Oracle RAC 10g Clulster on Linux and FireWire".
I've got the hardware working and everything is looking
good up to the step where I need to download and install
OCFS.
I'm using WhiteBox Linux v. 4, which
is RedHat AS 4 and based on 2.6 kernel. I did find an

OCFS install trouble w/ new kernel - unresolved symbols
I successfully have OCFS running in a two-node RAC environment using RHAS
3 (2.4.21-4.EL) using Qlogic 2310 cards. IO performance, however, was
terrible with the combination of OCFS and the Qlogic cards. After
extensive testing, OCFS did fine on its own, as did the fibre cards. Put
the two together, and everything literally ran twice as slow.
Support at Qlogic pointed me to

To ASM or Not to ASM is the question!
Had anybody done benchmarks comparing 10G RAC with and without ASM?
Better yet I would like to know if there are any performance
improvements of using ASM instead of OCFS. With all the hardware RAID
available I'm having a hard time to justify the use of ASM. Any
feedback is appreciated.

Source for OCFS Support Package
Hello,
I want to use ocfs for a 10g RAC installation on a 2 node cluster,
consisting of 1 Athlon and 1 Pentium machine with Firewire storage. OS is
RHAS 3.
Since I need to build my own binary Athlon rpm's, I downloaded
ocfs-1.0.12.tar.gz
ocfs-tools-1.0.10.tar.gz
I was able to install both (./configure ; make - make install).
When I try to load_ocfs I get lots of errors
