slow load() in R2.6.0
I'm encountering excruciatingly slow load times for character vectors in R 2.6.0-- up to 30sec for a 15K file that contains a no-attributes character vector of length ~1e4 and object size ~0.5MB. In R 2.5.1, repeated loads of the same set of files are near-instantaneous. The problem is proving tricky to reproduce consistently from scratch, so I have attached the 3 files used in the examples

Relase positive with log and zero of negative with 0
This is a very simple question but I couldn't form a site search quesry that would return a reasonable result set. Say I have a vector: x <- c(0,2,3,4,5,-1,-2) I want to replace all of the values in 'x' with the log of x. Naturally this runs into problems since some of the values are negative or zero. So how can I replace all of the positive elements of x with the log(x) and the

Problems with DCOM client packages under R 2.0
I am trying to use the Windows COM interface under R 2.0, and have encountered the following difficulties: - the package RDCOMClient installs, loads and works under R 1.9.1, installs under R2.0, but does not load or work under R2.0 - the package SWinTypeLibs does not install or load under either R 1.9.1 or under R2.0 For the moment I am concentrating on the RDCOMClient package as it seems to

Dear R-list, Realising the importance of updating the R base, I tried to compile the source file of R2.2.1 in my machine, but failed. REGARDING TO DOWNGRAING OCFS FROM 1.0.14-1 TO 1.0.9-12
Hi, all. My name is Kenichiro Ochi, in Oracle Japan Support. Customer examines upgrading OCFS from 1.0.9-12 to 1.0.14-1. And customer asked us a question about the way of downgrading to 1.0.9-12. (customer presumes a case in case after the upgrade.) We tested the following... 0.After the upgrade 1.umount OCFS volume on all nodes 2.uninstall rpm (V1.0.14-1) # rpm -e ocfs-tools-1.0.10-1 # rpm

syntex about a nested mixed linear model
I am a novice R user, and have been in trouble to get the right mixed model syntax in microarray analyses. There are three factors: Dye(2 levels), Temperature(3 levels) and Array(3 for each Temperature with a total of 9 arrays). I want to treat array as random, and to regard array variation different between Temperatures. So the model I want to seek is: Y = Dye + Temp + Dye + Temp*Dye +

rgl on Mac OS
Hi, It seems like a number of people on this list can install rgl but have problem loading it. I found myself in the same situation too. I have tried the workaround of removing /usr/X11R6/lib from DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH, but it doesn't seem to work for me, I am still getting the same error (that everyone else seems to get). Can anyone give me some ideas on what else to try? I have Mac OS 10.3.5,

plug in phones, speaker does not mute.
Hi all! Using C6 on an Asus M5A99X EVO R2.0 motherboard with AMD six core FX6300. That board uses Realtek ALC892 audio chipset. For the first time since I got that motherboard I tried plugging in headphones to the front panel speaker output. I was somewhat displeased to note that the speakers don't mute when that happens. I recall seeing info on that in Fedora, but not Centos, and
