Store/product stock design question
Hi all,
I''m having trouble figuring out how to handle stock levels in a new
store I''m building. When products are entered into the admin of the
store, they have a stock number associated with them.
What I''m not sure about, is how I go about maintaining this stock
level. Take this scenario:
1. User A adds an item to their cart, and I check that it''s in stock -

acl_system2 undefined method `access_control''
I''ve installed acts_as_authenticated and have that working like a charm
and now would like to add the acl_system2 plugin so I can do some role
based authorization stuff.
I went ahead and installed the plugin like this:
>ruby script\plugin source http://opensvn.csie.org/ezra/rails/plugins/dev/acl_system2
Then I installed the lib and test

Money library usage?
Hi,
I''m obviously doing something stupid, but I''m trying to figure out how
the Money library (http://dist.leetsoft.com/api/money/) is supposed to
work. I have a Product model and I want to have an attribute in my
model called "price" and I want it to accept Money objects.
So I have this in my Product model.
class Product < ActiveRecord::Base

Unknown column 'quotes.organisation_id' in 'where clause': SELECT * FROM `quotes` WHERE (`quotes`.organisation_id = 1036)
Hi,
I have a small app that needs to keep track of quotes, and
organisations. An organisation can either be the unit who finally
receives the goods (the end_user) or and intermediary (customer) (and in
some cases both)
An Organisation will (hopefully :) ) have many quotes; and a quote
can belong to an organisation, either as a customer or as an end_user or
both.
So the quotes table

Filecolumn storage location
Hi,
I am using file_column for some image uploading. I want to have all
the images stored under one root which I have managed by setting the
:store_dir option as below.
file_column :filename, :store_dir => File.join(RAILS_ROOT, ''public'',
''images'', ''products'')
So, my images get uploaded to:
/public/images/products/<primary_key>

Associated child records not created on creation of a parent.
I am trying to create a record with association. Within the create
method, I would also like to pre-populate dependent (has_many) records
from a template in the database.
The child records are <u>mysteriously rolled back </u> if I insert
them in a loop. If I try to insert a single child record, it works.I
have read the books and tried to google my way out of this but am at a

Validating 2 related models at once not working
Hello,
I have a form that submits data to two related models/tables. One is
Customer the other is Address. Validation for Customer works fine but not
for the Address.
Class Customer < ActiveRecord::Base
has_one :address
validates_presence_of :login, :password, :email
validates_associated :address
end
Class Address < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :customer

Self-referential join model does not work
I have been trying to model a labeled graph using ActiveRecord (trunk
version). Basically, I have a ''Node'' model which represents a node linking
to other nodes. Links (aka edges) are labeled (i.e., have a ''label''
attribute and other behavior). Thus I decided to model edges as an ''Edge''
model and use a ''has_many :trough''

SQL queries in Rails
Hi...
I want to know the equivalent instructions to insert, update, search
and delete a registry. I know Rails can do it easily Thanks to
ActiveRecord, but here''s the catch: I''m using PostgreSQL. As I''m using
SQL to do the migration (Including the foreign keys), I need to know
if I can use SQL queries to do those actions. Is there an example out
there?

Validating a required relationship.
Hello,
I''m not sure if I''m missing something blindingly obvious here.
All the relationships that Rails comes with assume 0..n, yes? It''s
not a strict 1 to 1 or 1 to n because it''s optional. My question is
this -
What is the best way to implement a required relationship?
For example, if I require that a comment is made by a user (a user

Verifying existance of related record
Is there an easy way to validate that a related record exists?
I''ve got a table that contains a set of categories and I want to make
sure the user has entered a vaild category (i.e. a category that exists
in the categories table). So in the model of the table I put this:
class Master < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :category, :foreign_key => "categoryid"

Creating multiple objects from form data
I''m in the process of creating a sign up form for an online application.
The form collects account info, company info, and then info for an
administrative user.
The method looks like this:
def create
@account = Account.create!(params[:account])
@company = @account.companies.create!(params[:company])
@user = @company.users.create!(params[:user])
end

filter/exclude confusion ???
I am running rsync -avz from [A], to pull a directory from [B].
I want to _exclude_ several directories on [B] from being pulled across.
Since these directories have short names, I hope that I can either
specify them inline rsyncd.conf on [B]; or, inline to the CLI on [A].
I am confused with man rsyncd.conf, where the manpage states:
"it only applies on the daemon"
I have tried

Single table inheritance and relations
All,
I''ve a question concerning STI in Rails. Let''s say I''ve a Person class
and two classes that inherit from Person: User and Customer. In the DB
I''ve the people table to store both instances of User and Customer.
Now, let''s say I also have Address class, which references a Customer,
and each customer has many addresses. How should I name the
