rsync-2.5.6 build on Red Hat 8.0 fails
The packaging/lsb/rsync.spec file is broken as shipped: It has a "Sept" month (rpmbuild here takes only 3-letter month names), and RH gzips the manpages, so the %files list can't find them. I also added doc/README-SGML and doc/rsync.sgml to the %doc files. Patch follows. Thanks for all the good work! --- rsync-2.5.6/packaging/lsb/rsync.spec.orig 2003-01-28 06:28:35.000000000 +0100

build postfix rpm with mysql
hello list, I'm trying to build a postfix rpm that has mysql support included. I've found the line where I need to define mysql support but it seems that I am being tripped up by some build dependencies: [root at beta SPECS]# rpmbuild -ba postfix.spec error: Failed build dependencies: MySQL-shared is needed by postfix-2.9.1-1.rhel5.x86_64 MySQL-devel is needed by

patch for rpm spec problem
The following is a description of an rpm-based rsync build problem on my Redhat 7.1 system, and a patch that fixed the spec file. The problem occurred on several recent rsync releases, including 2.5.7: rpm -tb --define '_topdir /home/user/tmp/rpmbuild' rsync-2.5.7.tar.gz ALMOST works; it uses the spec file in lsb, not redhat/7.1. This spec file fails due to bad date format in one line,

2.6.9-42.ELsmp kernel and 3ware 9550 tools
I have the latest kernel with the drivers for my 3ware 9550SX built in. Where can I find the tools and monitoring apps for this card? Are there rpms hiding somewhere, or do I need to build it from source? -- Bowie

Patch: FC4 spec file
The patch below modifies the spec file for FC4 RPM builds as follows: 1.) Build binaries using the -lmcheck option; various samba commands and smbd process crash badly without; see, for example: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=164353 2.) The Fedora project's samba RPMS install mount.cifs; it would help to have samba.org's RPMS do the same. It would be nice to

contrib/redhat/openssh.spec question
I have a couple of questions regarding openssh.spec and the rpm that gets generated from it. I am using 2.3.0p1 1. Why is openssl a prereq? openssh statically links to openssl during build by default (rightfully so, you don't want your security library a shared object if possible) 2. I don't understand the following line in the spec file during the install step (it makes it not build for

Problem with zcat uncompressing man pages
Hi When I read 'certain' -- not all -- man pages zcat writes a small error to stderr when opening the man page; however, the man page does actually open. The message i get on the terminal is: zcat: error writing to output: Broken pipe zcat: /usr/local/man/man5/muttrc.5.gz: uncompress failed When closing the man page, another message is shown on stderr: grotty:<standard input>

mock and iaxmodem
I am trying to build an rpm package for iaxmodem-1.2.0. At the moment I am still trying to get a working spec file put together. I have managed to get an SRPM produced but the binary build from this fails due to there being no install task in the Makefile.in provided with the source. I have found a spec file from opensuse that provides this in the install portion: %build [

Hi guys, My samba server stop to respond many times today even though I've upgraded the memory from 1Gb to 5Gb (it keeps eating my memory out). I've tried samba 3.0.32, 3.2.4 before, but no success. I go to samba.org and found samba-3.3.0rc1. Is it save to use it in our production server? I'm really desperate here. Anyway, I've been trying to rpmbuild its source code but failed

Hi, Everything compiled correctly for the ocfs2 package, but so far the modules will not load with the "well known" module symbol error. FATAL: Error inserting ocfs2 (/lib/modules/2.6.16.27-0.6-smp/kernel/fs/ocfs2/ocfs2.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg) Okay not sure what is up here, any suggestions? SCO 5.0.5 (i686-pc-sco3.2v5.0.5), scp and the -n option
Ok, using openssh-SNAP-20010126.tar.gz, two versions of the server both compiled with the configure commands as below, one with USE_PIPES defined and one without. This is on SCO OpenServer 5.0.5 (using SCO dev environment, SCO make, etc.) The client is always linux, openssh 2.3.0p1. export CCFLAGS='-L/usr/local/lib -I/usr/local/include' ./configure --sysconfdir=/etc/ssh
