Calling Samba print server with an aliased DNS-name fails with Samba 3.2.7 but worked with 3.0.30.
Hi. Tonight, I upgraded our Samba print server running Samba 3.0.30 to Samba 3.2.7. This netbios name of this server is 'EUPRYMNA' and the DNS-name 'euprymna.falw.vu.nl'. Since this is a difficult name to remember, we created a DNS-alias 'printserver.falw.vu.nl'. Connecting to printers by calling the server by it's DNS-alias worked in 3.0.30. After the upgrade

Samba printserver works for Win10 Pro but not Win10 Home edition
Hello, I have set up a Samba printserver at a school. The server is a standalone server, connected to no domain. I have installed printers with Cups, and uploaded Windows printerdrivers to the shared driver folder. I can add the shared printers in a Windows 10 Pro client, without any hassle. When I try the same in any Win 10 Home edition, I get Windows error messages like "error

Moving a printserver
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, I like to move a Samba Printserver to a different machine. I would like to copy the printerdriver from the old to the new machine and not reinstall all drivers/printers again. When I only copy the files from /var/lib/samba/drivers to the new machine, there are no drivers listed on the new machine. How do I get the drivers listed on the new

3.5.1 64 bit windows printing is working a bit
Hi, although I don't expect any answers (like most of the times) , here is my experience so far: I run a samba printserver for +3.000 hosts and 600 printers with a correct setup successfully. So be sure, everything is plugged in, I tried to turn it off and on again, I RTFM'ed and so on. Here is my most successfull attempt to get the printservice going on 3.5.1 and windows 7 46 bit

PDC migration: printing trouble.
Hi all, we've been moving an old Samba 2.2.x PDC install to a Samba 3.0.28 PDC install. We copied the ntdrivers.tdb and ntprinters.tdb from to old to the new server. After the migration, everything was just fine, except printing seemed to be somewhat slower. As more and more user logged on, the machine got really sluggish and printing took quite long. We figured out we've got bitten

Printing from NT4
Hello, Does anyone have done a setup of the samba server in such way that the user on a Windows NT4 client must enter his/her username/password to use a printer service ? Is that possible? I manage to have this working with Win95 with the option public=no but it does not seems to work for NT. The goal is to have a control of the printer usage. (accounting) I'm controlling the samba servers

openvpn
I have a workgroup server with samba operating well and have configured openvpn on it. That also seems to be working well. I also have other servers at different locations with samba/openvpn working. To access the openvpn server I use Windows and manually map a drive to a drive letter using U: as \\servername\sharename The shares work but I am mapping _through_ the samba server - that is I have

3.0.23: assigning users to printers
Hello I just upgraded our PDC from 3.0.22 to 3.0.23 with all the bells and whistles. I am running OpenLdap as a backend and did what's been written in the Changelog regarding indexing. The new version started up fine and worked all right. Netlogons, shares, printing etc. I could also assign ACLs to my files as before. The PDC also works as a printserver running cups with the drivers

Hard time installing printers 3.4.8
Hello, been googling this for a while. Read GD's presentation on why printing is such a pain... Anyway, I'm using 3.4.8 on Freebsd 8.1 I've tried a few combinations - best luck is with 3.2.5, but I'd like to move forward a bit. So, I've got the ADS part working pretty good. happy with how that's going. my problem is when I attempt to load printer drivers.

"Windows couldn't connect to the printer" 0x00000709 when using server short name
Hi all, Samba 4.3.11 is serving printers in my office from a server called "printserver". If a Windows 7 client tries to reach it using a short name \\prinserver , it can see the list of printers, but can't connect to any of them: "Windows couldn't connect to the printer" pop-up appears immediately. Weirdly, it doesn't happen all the times, sometimes it can

printing via embedded USB printserver
hi, I'm having trouble printing with smbclient via an embedded USB printserver. This printserver is a nifty little $35 box with an Ethernet jack and a USB jack that provides network access to your USB printer as a Windows share (a poor man's Jetdirect, if you will). I can connect to the printer with smbclient, but when I try to print anything, even a small text file, I always get the

access denied on printer driver upload
Hi, I'm trying to upload printer drivers to my jessie samba 4.1.17 print server, but I'm getting: "Failed to add driver. Access denied", and I don't understand why. The domain join is OK (verified with net ads testjoin) and on the DC I have given the SePrintOperatorPrivilege to the Domain Admins group, of which I am a member: root at DC2:~# net rpc rights list

Delay with printer properties
Greetings Samba Fans! I'm experiencing a strange problem which started after installation of Service Pack 2 for Windows XP: When a user tries to print there is a long delay (sometimes around 2 minutes) before the printer properties page is opened. This only affects Windows XP with Service Pack 2 installed. I did a 'tcpdump' on the printserver and observed something quite strange:

Problems with Intel Netport Printserver and Samba
Running RH6.0 I am able to print just fine from linux, the problem now is getting smb printing working. I am using an Intel Netport Express PRO/100 printserver. Previous to my upgrade from RH5.2 when I had the printer directly connected to the samba server, I was able to print just fine from the windows client machines (not using the raw method) My /etc/printcap is as follows ##PRINTTOOL3##

Printers Showing up on Alternate Server Names
Hi all, I am running samba 3.0.6. I am having an issue on my print server regarding how the printer ends up registering itself on the Windows clients. We have a machine named "bob", "bob" has an alias both in DNS and in the netbios name in Samba of "printserver", "bob" has an IP address of 192.168.1.1. In a seemingly random fashion sometimes when I add

RSAT Print Management won't show shared printers under the "Printers" section
Hello, currently I am trying to setup a Samba environment (Samba AD DC, Samba Fileserver, Samba Printserver) using Samba version 4.5.8-Debian and CUPS version 2.2.1-8 on Debian 9 "Stretch". I am trying to setup "Point'n'Print" atm. While my Active Directory domain and the fileserver work well with my Windows 7 clients, I am having some issues with the printserver.

Is building a load balance setup like this workable?
Okay, before anything else, all I'm using samba for is a "Windows looking" frontend to cups. Eg, so the users don't know I'm getting rid of the windows 2003 printserver and replacing it with a pair of linux printservers (Samba/Cups) I'd like to have 2 (or 3) printservers, all the same build of linux (debian), cloned, etc. users will be able to go to \\printserver
