Version 0.6 of 10.3 xattr patch is out!
Hi guys, I had a little time and decided to update my patch to be applied on rsync 3.0.4 without hung or reverse patch error. NB: I only corrected patching errors, the xattr patch still exactly the same. I didn't tested if the issue I explained there still the same or not: http://lists.samba.org/archive/rsync/2008-February/020093.html If someone test it, please let me know about it. I

Possibility to porting Rsync to NT and other platforms
Hello, I am looking into possibilities of porting RSync for windows. Does anybody have an idea that which libraries and dependencies RSync uses which can not be compiled on windows (so thats why we use cygwin) Regards Hasanat Kazmi -- Hasanatkazmi@gmail.com "I hate Capitalism,so naturally I love Open Source" -- Hasanat Kazmi +923464362473 -------------- next part -------------- HTML

Yet another rsync incremental thread
Hello all, Since the rsync on Panther many things changed in my professional life. This project is abandoned although it should work. But this you already know. What's new? On my new job I have several servers to administrate. Servers that aren't backed up (sic). So, there's why I'm back to rsync. The backup plan I would like: 1) Client side: PCs running rsync (or

WARNING: . . . .failed verification -- update discarded (will try again).
A nightly scripted rsync backup job is giving me this error WARNING: vm/escDebLenny14G-flat.vmdk failed verification -- update discarded (will try again). I've searched the web and I think probably the problem is the source file changed during the copy. However, I haven't seen any explanations for the "will try again" part. Does it try again immediately? If so, does a

Making rsync compile under Mac OS X 10.3.9 with extended attributes
Somebody knows if it's possible to compile rsync (version 3 would be great, but can be 2.6.x) under Mac OS X 10.3.9 with extended attributes? Under OS 10.3.9 the Apple shipped rsync have not yet the -E argument option. RsyncX have a double free bug that is annoying. "Q" rsync 2.6.6 with extended attributes binary only works on 10.4 and above. I have tried to compile rsync

Xattrs and Delete over AFP
Hello group, I have an OSX 10.3.9 Server that I'm trying to back up with rsync 3.0.2. Since I didn't have any luck with the 10.3.9 patch and I do have 10.4 clients, I decided to try running the backup over AFP (Apple's file sharing protocol). I found a way to mount the AFP volume with root permissions and rsync 3.0.2 works very nicely using this on the 10.4 clients, preserving

Hello all, I've started a MacOS 10.3 Panther xattr project at the begin of the year. There is already some time that I haven't presented a new version of rsync10.3xattr_support patch. By this mail I would like to present my apologies and officially stop this project for many reasons: - I'm in a new job and don't need anymore to provide backup solutions for 10.3 users; - I

Does rsync 2.6.9 works for resource forks in Mac OS X
HI All, I'm new to this rsync world. Please bear with me if it looks odd. I've downloaded the rsync 2.6.9 version and using it to perform backup to my server. My doubt is when i try to copy a file Does rsync is capable of copying the resource forks of that files as well ? Please advise. Thanks in Advance. Janakiram.

Transfer resource forks (-X -E) but not data?
Hello, Our hard drive crashed and we restored a backup under Mac 10.3.9. Unfortunately we lost the executability of the files. The icons do not show up and we have to manually click "Open With" and choose Word/Excel/etc. I have an old backup that has old data, but all of the executibility, permissions, and resource forks are still preserved. Is there anyway to transfer the

rsync+cygwin 1.5<->1.7 performance
Hi Has anybody ever made comparisons about the performance of cygwin 1.7 compared to 1.5? I believe there were some changes that should make it faster, but I don't know if they affect rsync too. Thanks bye Fabi

build on osx 10.6
Hi All, I've been off list for a while and just got around to building rsync 3.0.6 on Mac OSX 10.6 intel core 2 duo machine. It runs great on similar machines but someone just said it won't for their OSX 10.6 intel core duo and returns an error: rsync Bad CPU type in executable. I check the file and it says: rsync: Mach-O 64-bit executable x86_64 my older builds all

does it make sense to run rsync over ftp (curlftpfs)?
Hi, It seems to work but very slowly. I guess it's because rsync has to read the complete file content on the remote host, so does it make any sense at all to do it over FTP? ----- -- Kent Tong Wicket tutorials freely available at http://www.agileskills2.org/EWDW Axis2 tutorials freely available at http://www.agileskills2.org/DWSAA -- View this message in context:

How to let rsync detect file RENAMEs
Assume I start with two absolutely equal directory trees. Now I rename in one of the directory trees a file from aaa.txt to bbb.txt How EXACTLY can I tell rsync to synchronize the other directory tree. That means that in the other partner directory tree the missing file should be deleted and the new, renamed file should be copied? This should work regardsless on which side/partner dir tree the
