New worker not being created
I figured out that in the backgroundrb.yml, I had the old setting of making the database RAILS_ENV. It wasn''t a valid variable in backgroundrb 0.2.1, and it wasn''t reporting an error, so I had no idea. Once I changed it to ''development'' or ''production'', it started working. I found that if a worker has an error, it usually logs the error

I am sure..again I am missing something, but I am trying to start a worker, when backgroundrb starts and it doesn''t seem to work. Here is my config/backgroundrb_schedules.yml file: feed_worker: class: feed_worker job_key: feed_worker_key worker_method: do_work trigger_args: repeat_interval: 20.minutes I even tried this from Rails controller: # def start_feed_worker #

background worker just stops running after some time
Hi, I am fairly new to ruby/rails, but I thought I did a fair job of setting up my background worker, but after some time, maybe 4-5 hours of running, it just stops running, without any messages. Here is the yml file: backgroundrb.yml --- :port: 2000 :rails_env: production :host: localhost here is my schedules file: alerts_task: :class: :alerts_worker :job_key: :alerts_key

schedule support on latest svn, a question
I''m running the latest backgroundrb mainly for scheduled tasks support. As per the documentation I created the backgroundrb_schedules.yml with the following: simple_label: :class: :document_sorter_worker :worker_method: :do_work :job: :bleh :trigger_args: :start: <%= Time.now + 5.seconds %> :end: <%= Time.now + 10.minutes :repeat_interval: 1.minute Under

Need help with singleton worker
We have a fairly expensive task that we''d rather not schedule too many instances of in parallel. Couldn''t get pool_size to limit the amount of workers, and I figure that''s hardly optimal anyway, so would like to have the work queued up for a single named worker instead, running as soon as possible. Using MiddleMan.schedule_worker() with :job_key does start off a

backgroundrb launches concurrent instances of same job
Hi there, Backgroundrb is working pretty well for me but I have a job that launches two of the same job, apparently a minute(?) apart from each other. Should this be happening if I have repeat interval enabled with a job_key? It seems like it should wait until the job is finished before launching a new instance. --Backgroundrb_schedules.yml-- city_updater: :class: :city_updater_worker

Scheduler skipping schedules
There is a line in the backgroundrb codebase: sleep 0.1 # TODO this is dangerous; could skip over some jobs Could this explain why my scheduler stops triggering? It only seems to work for about 12 - 24 hours before schedules are being skipped... Once I changed the times to using cron trigger in backgroundrb_schedules.yml and set the times to every 37th and 59th minute of the hour, instead of

Repeatedly dying with "failed to find slave socket"
I''m struggling to keep backgroundrb v2 running for more than 24 hours. It appears to be running fine for a while, then tries to fire off a worker (exactly the same worker it''s been running for the past few hours), and it suddenly dies. I haven''t found any pattern for the cause of this. In backgroundrb_server.log, the final entry is this : 20070206-10:41:45

Slave socket problem again
Hello! I have been using backgroundrb for a small project. My worker task is run every minute, checks the processing queue in data-base and execute the business method from Rails if something is to be done. Unfortunately I was hit by the problem of backgroundrb server dying after some runs. The exception is: 20070531-11:06:05 (31816) Starting worker: s_e_work sql_exe (s_e_work_sql_exe) ()

worker starting twice
Hi gang, Thanks to other help I''ve gotten on this list, I''ve got backgroundrb up and running using postgres alongside my rails app. I''ve designed the system to have several eternally-running workers that periodically poll the database to see if there''s any work for them to do, and set things up in the config file to make them restart quickly if any of them

new BackgroundRB
Hey Greg- Yes I am sorry, the new architecture uses fork and named pipes and a bunch of unix stuff to do its magick. Now you may be able to port it to qwork on windows, but I don''t think it is possible :( I''m really sorry about this but I need this thing to be as robust and solid as it can be and in the end windows isn''t compatible. Now you may be able to

Scheduled worker dies after about 30-45 runs
I have a scheduled worker that runs every minute, checking for new eBay auctions to post. If it finds an auction, then it posts it. If there are no auctions in the database that are queued up, it simply does nothing. I got the worker to finally run as a scheduled worker, every minute. However, after about 30-45 scheduled runs, it simply stops running. My backgroundrb_schedules.yml file: ------

BackgrounDRb 0.2.0 Release! Complete rewrite.
Hello Folks- I am really happy to announce the release of BackgrounDRb 0.2.0 . This is a complete rewrite and re-architecture of this codebase. I want to thank skaar for all of his hard work. I put out a call for help with the new architecture and skaar stepped up bigtime. I had already written the new scheduler and cron compatible syntax and moved to multi process architecture. But he

struggling with stability
Greetings all, Unit tests are passing, but I''m having mucho problems getting brb to run without exceptions for more than 6 hours. I''m seeing a mixture of the following 2 exceptions: 20070605-11:26:56 (21497) failed to find slave socket - (RuntimeError) 20070605-11:26:56 (21497) /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/ slave-1.2.1/lib/slave.rb:435:in `initialize''

BackgrounDRb version 1.0RC1 available now
Hi Folks, BackgrounDRb is a Ruby job server and scheduler. Its main intent is to be used with Ruby on Rails applications for offloading long-running tasks. Since a Rails application blocks while serving a request it is best to move long-running tasks off into a background process that is divorced from http request/response cycle. This new release of BackgrounDRb is also modular and can be used

Recommendations for eternally-running backgroundrb workers?
I''ve got some workers that I want to have running all the time. Right now I''m just launching them manually, by requesting a special page in my rails app that includes lines like: MiddleMan.new_worker(:class=> :receiver, :job_key=>:r, :args=>{:sleep_time=>10}) This strikes me as a really weak way to fire up my workers. I basically want to automate things so

Backgroundrb weirdness with multiple mongrels
Hi list, I''m having some issues getting backgroundrb to play nice with more than one mongrel. When I run my app on a single mongrel instance it works fine. I have two different problems show up in my backgrounrb_server.log. The top of the backtrace is shown here: 20070130-12:03:03 (92473) failed to find slave socket - (RuntimeError) 20070130-12:03:03 (92473)

failed to find slave socket - (RuntimeError)
Hi everyone, I''ve a class that try to spawn two workers, every 5 seconds. The code is something like: while true do MiddleMan.new_worker(:class => :researches_worker,:job_key => :researches) MiddleMan.new_worker(:class => :products_worker,:job_key => :products) sleep(5) end I''m using ":job_key", so if a worker hasn''t already ended its work
