Ubuntu 18:04 not getting 'home' directory from DC
Thank you for your reply.
First I am using 'ad' backend (DC config is in first post below) and
until I did a fresh install of a new DC Samba 4.8.2 on Ubuntu 18.04 the
user/group id, shell, and home directory paths were correctly obtained
from the RSAT UNIX Attribute Tab settings on the DC. It seems that is
still working for users already created with existing home directories

Ubuntu 18:04 not getting 'home' directory from DC
Thank You Louis and Rowland for your help,
Seems samba version in Ubuntu 18.04 was the key, (Samba version 4.7.6-Ubuntu).
I was using an old smb.conf that has always worked on my Ubuntu 16.04 workstations:
[global]
realm = XX.DOMAIN.COM
workgroup = XX
security = ADS
dedicated keytab file = /etc/krb5.keytab
kerberos method = secrets and keytab
idmap config *:backend = tdb

Fwd: Re: Ubuntu 18:04 not getting 'home' directory from DC
Sorry for the delayed response,
Louis,
I'm not sure how to tell about having "cifs/UPN" - Please advise.
I was able to mount with sec=krb5 after the user is logged in but that does not help getting "home" mounted during the login.
But here is where I am now:
I have been able to pam_mount "home" during the login but could not get the ACLs during the mount

Ubuntu 18:04 not getting 'home' directory from DC
Rowland,
How would I find this info?
Check if 'Rachel Jones' has a 'gecos' attribute in AD.
You seem to be being denied access to '.Xauthority', was it created on
another machine ? No
However, I am sure '-13' usually means incorrect password.
I am sure the password is correct, the /mnt/home/rachel folder is created
but the user files are not created because

'/tmp' does not exist or permission denied ...: /tmp has 777 permission
Not sure what caused it. It must be some change to permissions. I know
I changed the root password with passwd and changed it back afterwards
when problems started. I know for sure I didn't change a thing to the
samba config. No firewall running atm.
This morning I did smbpasswd as root and set it (to be sure) to same
passwd as the original one. But I don't think this matters anymore. I

Permission denied changing to mail directory
I have 3 domains using one mail server. I've set the dovecot mail
directories to be
/mail/mail/%d/%n
When someone logs on, dovecot attempt to navigate to the domain
directory first & we get a permission denied, and we get no further. Its
very odd because (a) it was working up until 16:50 on Thursday & (b) the
directories now have 777 access. Each user is (at present) a separate

Error: Mailbox INBOX: file_dotlock_create in directory /var/mail failed: Permission denied
Hi All,
We are running Round cube on top of dovecot and postfix as our email
echo system. Main problem we are facing is that, roundcube loads really
slow for big inboxes (~5000 emails). I found that, while it loads, imap
process goes high in terms of CPU utilization(~90%). I asked it in some
roundcube support group, They believe that it is related to dovecot not
roundcube. Can you shed any

Samba Active Directory NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED - expired?
Hello list,
I'm using several samba server (mix between v2.2 and v3.0 versions)
within an Active Directory domain. These servers are normal domain
members and winbind is used to lookup the domain users on the linux
machines.
Sometimes it looks like that some of the servers get kicked out of the
domain. In the samba logs suddenly NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED messages
appear and samba stopps

multiple domain served by Samba
Dear All,
I have a working Samba AD for my company (company.intranet) under
Debian/GNU. Now I'm requested to create a domain for another company.
Can I use the same server with the same Samba for multiple domain? Can
same samba serve parallel the company.intranet (with company\user) and
the othercompany.intranet (othercompany\user) domains? May I just run

Bug#561995: mkdir: cannot create directory `/var/lock/logcheck': Permission denied
Package: logcheck
Version: 1.3.4
Severity: normal
I am running debian/testing and just upgraded to logcheck 1.3.4 and it
started reporting the error:
mkdir: cannot create directory `/var/lock/logcheck': Permission denied
I created the directory and chown'd it to logcheck and it seems fine now.
Looking at the changelog, I see something was purposefully changed, so I
imagine I
