Samba, pam, NIS and password changes
Hi I have a customer who is having a problem with Samba password changes. The samba server (server12) is set up as a PDC for a WIndows domain with XP clients. Samba is Version 3.0.26a-SerNet-RedHat. OS is Centos 3.9. There is also a separate mail server (server56) running FC6 which uses NIS for user validation. NIS server is running on server12. Generally speaking, everything is working and

Live linux booting
I have a need to have a live Linux (Debian or sysrescued ) to boot off a hard-drive so that the hard-drive ends up umounted after boot. (for running partimage ). I've gone down the memdisk iso route and read about the issues there - I've seen a way to do this by mounting over nfs (messy) - but I want to do this without the network. I'm thinking that there should be a way to loop

Nearest Neighbor Algorithm in R -- again.
Several of the methods I use for analyzing large data sets, such as WinGamma: determining the level of noise in data Relief-F: estimating the influence of variables depend on finding the k nearest neighbors of a point in a data frame or matrix efficiently. (For large data sets it is not feasible to compute the 'dist' matrix anyway.) Seeing the proposed solution to "[R] distance

Using special characters
Dear R users I'm having problems in putting special characters (like 佱, 併, 佺 ) in my plots, as much in titles, as in axis names, as in legend...when I save them as a pdf document. They don't appear... I don't know if it is because I'm using a linux platform... The script is the following: library(grDevices) jpeg(file="Fronteira/FronteiraNova.jpeg",

Source RPM please
Hi, I''m a long ext3 user (rpmfind.net). I propagated ext3 on some of our server box (W3C webservers are ext3 based too now). I might be tempted of testing out your kernel RPMs but unavailability or the source RPM and the SMP version are definite showstoppers. Please provide them. In the meantime I will stick to my own set of kernel ext3 RPMs at ftp://rpmfind.net/pub/veillard/ext3/

Input sought on changing default vardir on OS X.
0.25.5 changed the default vardir from /var/puppet to /var/lib/puppet and it''s caused the odd issue we have to fix in the Mac pkg preflights. After re-reading ''man hier'' I''m tempted to change the default on OS X to: /var/db/puppet instead. /var/ multi-purpose log, temporary, transient, and spool files ...

puppet on os x: definitive setup notes?
i''ve been reading docs and blundering my way through a simple puppet client/server setup between two test hosts (puppetmasterd on server 10.5.8, puppet client on client 10.6.2) and am wondering if there''s any current definitive guide for configuring puppet for os x systems. it also seems the gems installed on my client with ruby 1.9.1 as default don''t work very well

Copying user accounts (passwords) to another server
Hi Folks, I am doing a server swap out tomorrow and wondered if there was a utility that will copy user account details and their current passwords from one server to another (both CentOS 4) - there's only about 15 to do so it's not a major issue. Thanks Nigel Kendrick

ssh2 authentication and ip forwarding
I'd been hoping to move all of our site to ssh protocol 2 whilst we are still small enough to do this without serious pain, however the lack of authentication and connection forwarding is making that difficult at present. I see the current (2.2.0p1) code base does not have the code on either client or server side for ssh2 to handle tunneled connections or authentication agent. Is this

XCore target
Hello all. At XMOS we are working towards updating the upstream XCore backend for newer versions of the chip. XCore is the XMOS processor. The XCore backend was written by Richard Osborne at XMOS. Richard has moved on. The current code owner in CODE_OWNERS.TXT, Robert Lytton, has also moved on. For some years XMOS has developed the compiler in-house, for new versions of the chip, but not

Environment specified by external nodes ignored

Complete newbie seeks start . . .
Hi .. I've just received in the post my Wildcard card with a single FXO and three FXS daughter cards. I've identified a dedicated PC to function as the * machine and installed the card. I've installed Fedora Core 2 on that machine. I've downloaded the * software and the zaptel drivers. And now, to be quite honest, I haven't got much of a clue what to do next! I've
