speeding up functions for large datasets
Dear R-helpers, I'm dealing with large datasets, say tables of 60 000 times 12 or so, and some of the functions are (too ) slow and I'm therefore trying to find ways to speed them up. I've found that for instance for-loops are slow in R (both by testing and by searching through mail archives etc ) Are there any more well known arguments that are slow in R, ,maybe at data

Hi, We're setting up a PDC, and would like to have a login script to deliver the mapped drives to users in particular groups, and connect to printers. The printer drivers come from the [print$], share. Does anyone have any good resources for this? What's the easiest and simplest thing to get going --vbscript or batch files? Thanks, chris

run a script with "administrator" credentials?
I saw Active Directory a bit today and was impressed with the ease one can manage many Windows workstations with that. Especially I liked the software installation (too bad it can install MSI packages only) and the ability to run custom scripts on the workstations (when the boot up etc.). Is it possible to run a custom script for a given machine when it boots up (that is already joined to

Install Applications via Logon Scripts?
Is there a way to install a windows (XP) application via a logon script? I'm not sure how to do it because most applications will require interaction (next, next, next and etc). Has anyone figured out a way to 'push out' programs via logon script or something else relating to a Samba domain?
