Problems adding Win clients to domain
I'm not able to add Win clients to my domain anymore. I receive an
error on the PC (2000 or XP):
"The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "[DOMAIN]":
Logon failure: unknown user name or password."
But I am able to log on to the server when accessing shares and
printers. This error message only appears when joining the domain.
And on the Mac OS X

Permission problems on Mac OS X
I know this might be half OT, but nontheless Samba is involved.
A customer of mine has two Macs with Mac OS X 10.5 and is sharing a
folder on one of them.
We'd like to avoid any permission problem, so I put the followinf in
smb.conf:
create mode=0777
force create mode=0777
directory mode=0777
force directory mode=0777
This is usually enough to achieve what I want, with other OSes.

SMB share and .mdb files?
Hi.
With samba 3.0.25b as part of Mac OS X 10.5.4 Server, I'm encountering
issues with .mdb files: Some Windows apps use client software on local
machines and one Microsoft Access database on the SMB share. Everything
works fine, as long as there's only one client using the .mdb file. As
soon as a second client tries to access (and write!) to the .mdb file,
the clients on the Windows

OpenSSH patches for Mac OS X
OpenSSH Unix Dev,
Mac OS X 10.5 recently shipped with OpenSSH 4.5p1. This build
includes a number of patches, some general bug fixes and some platform-
specific fixes and enhancements. These patches are available from our
open source site (http://www.opensource.apple.com/darwinsource/10.5/OpenSSH-87/
).
Following is a brief description of each patch. We'd be more than

Accessing home directories problem (XP Home Edition)
Hi there,
I have my Samba, set up and running. My users are add and should be set up
right. The problem is when I can't access my home directories from Windows XP
Home Edition <http://www.linuxforum.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=179059#>.
It should give me a login box right? .. but its not. It just gives me the
error message that I don't have access to the folder.

Leopard SMB File Move Permissions Bug ?
Yea, I realize this is an Apple problem since they do their own things
with Samba, but wanted to confer with the samba experts here as Apple
has yet to fix this in the last year (10.5.2 to 10.5.5).
I've recently report it to apple as still a bug but wondering if it
might have a workaround?
Scenario:
You created or have an existing file on a mac smb share
Permissions look like:

SID consistency between two samba servers
I'm lost a bit, probably, but I have next setup.
server-1: OSX leopard SAMBA server, acts as PDC with odsam backend.
server-2: member of samba domain, hosted by server-1. At the same time server-2 host /home directories on NFS and configured as nss_ldap client of OD LDAP on server-1. So, "samba users" and "local users" are the same.
How can I make sure that server-2 will

[Feature-Request] syslinux in linux kernel format
Hi
It would be pretty useful to have syslinux in linux kernel format so it
can be chainloaded easy and directly by other bootloaders such as grub4dos.

Connection closing with close_cnum(1284)
Greetings
I am running SMB on OS X Server 10.5.6, it's not clear what version of
SMB they use. I have a Windows XP box that mounts a network drive on
the server. This mount disappears from time to time for no apparent
reason:

samba/source/smbd/process.c:timeout_processing(1371)

lxde
Hi all,
anyone know when lxde will be available for centos?
Fedora lxde was nice but its end of life is far to short for a server.
Thanks
Gary.

folding Apple tweaks into openssh
Hi. Apple have a bunch of patches to openssh that they have folded
into the version that's shipped with MacOSX. Some of these are very
convenient: like automagically starting an ssh-agent at login/boot
time and the ability to have SSH passphrases stored and fetched from
the Keychain. It would be nice if these could be considered for
rolling in to a future release of openssh.

unmarshall samr_q_set_username
Hello all,
I again am having a problem I stated a while ago.
The machine is a mac osx server. I am limited samba 2.2.3 I believe.
It was working great, the I change a netlogon script, which should make no
difference.
then I added a couple of shares to smb.conf.
my smb.conf is designed after the one on afp548.com to make a mac into a
win pdc.
only the shares and names have changed really.

rsync HFS+ -> UFS2
Hi,
This is my first post to this list.
I have been backing up some files with rsync from My Mac OS X 10.4.7
machine, which uses HFS+ filesystem to a FreeBSD 6.1-RELEASE machine,
which uses UFS2 filesystem. They go across a 100-base-T lan, which
has little or no traffic on it.
On my Mac, I mount the nfs exported volume on the FreeBSD machine with:
$ mount -t nfs moe:/backup

Hi,
I read some articles on solarisinternals.com like "ZFS_Evil_Tuning_Guide" on http://www.solarisinternals.com/wiki/index.php/ZFS_Evil_Tuning_Guide . They clearly suggest to disable cache flush http://www.solarisinternals.com/wiki/index.php/ZFS_Evil_Tuning_Guide#FLUSH .
It seems to be the only serious article on the net about this subject.
Could someone here state on this
