Pidgin and (lack of) sound on CentOS 4.6
When I start pidgin from the Applications -> Internet -> Internet Messenger menu, my sound device stops working. I think this has something to do with the Gnome applet. I appear to end up with two (sometimes more) copies of the "gaim" process running -- such that if I use the right-button menu on the Gnome applet to quit pidgin, a login dialog is stil left behind and sometimes

Reset audio controller w/o rebooting?
As I mentioned on a thread about flash-plugin a few days ago, I'm having trouble with my sound device getting "stuck" and thereby causing problems for anything that accesses it, like video playback. Rebooting the machine "fixes" it for a while, but it's unpredictable for how long -- sometimes months go by without it recurring, sometimes it happens every couple of days.

Hi everyone I have a Digium card TE110P and after plug it, turn on the computer and configure, the LEDs don't light up in spite of what Digium FAQ says about the LEDs: When will the LED's light up on my TDM400P/TE110P/TE2XXP/TE4XXP? ... The TE110P LED's will light up RED when the span is configured and kernel module is loaded. If configured correctly and a circuit or channel bank is

PROBLEM: log abort over RAID5
Several people already reported this at linux-kernel and elsewhere with no answers, I thought perhaps this would be a more adequate forum... [1.] One line summary of the problem: After I/O, journal is aborted and filesystems made read-only. [2.] Full description of the problem/report: One can't anymore write to the affected file systems. Upon investigation, ext3fs journal was aborted

Has anyone had success getting on-board sound to work on a Tyan S2895?
My setup is as follows: Motherboard: Tyan S2895 CPU: Two Opteron 275s Memory: 4 GB Disk: Three 250 GB SATA drives attached to a 3Ware 9500S-4LP RAID card Video: Nvidia GeForce 7800 The only hardware that I have added to the motherboard is the 3Ware card and the Nvidia card. 4.0_rc1 new install fails to enable mixer devices
I've just installed 4.0_rc1 to evaluate and compare with FC3 for a local project. The installation and initial usage of the two distros is almost identical. up2date and yum work well on either. The one problem I have is with sound. CentOS has loaded snd_intel8x0 and all the usual suspects, but the mixers (GNOME volume controls, etc., do not work because there is no /dev/xxx for the mixer

RPMforge mplayerplug-in seems to be locking up my sound device
Got home from vacation last night and ran yum update. Among other things installed was mplayerplug-in-3.25-1.el4.rf ... now any time I attempt to view CNN video, my sound device locks up -- I eventually end up having to kill firefox, and anything thereafter that attempts to access sound (such as system-config-soundcard) also ends up wedged. Previously this only happened sporadically and after

Hi Marek Thanks a lot for your rebasing work. Here is my report : - all my games that broke with temporaries patch (they were either completely black or lot of black screen flash every frame) behave badly, but in different ways : * etracer is very slow and often crash in ttm code [1] (I think this is an old bug that just resurrected, no idea why) * foobillard is very slow and still flash a bit *
