CPU usage while at syslinux boot prompt
Hi,
Today I was contacted by a VMware colleague asking me why my test systems
were using almost 100% CPU while waiting for a prompt. He was used to this
behaviour for DOS guests :)
Apparently the isolinux boot CD that is waiting for another test Linux
installation is using about 1.8Ghz of the 2.5Ghz virtual CPU on a VMware
ESX 3.0.2 host.
Since I have 5 of these VM guests that are used for

Last character of the boot prompt gone missing ?
Hi,
I think I found a problem with syslinux where if you have an entry in the
syslinux config file (eg. linux) and you type some additional parameters
on the boot-prompt (eg. noacpi) the last character of the prompt is cut
off (and missing from /proc/cmdline).
This does not seem to happen for the append line in the config file, only
for additional parameters on the boot prompt. (I guess it

Append line size limit in syslinux 3.72
Hi,
Is there still a known limit of 255 characters of the append line in
syslinux (isolinux) from the config file ?
A quick test showed me that when the APPEND line in the config-file is
longer than 255 characters it arrives truncated in Linux.
While typing more than 255 characters on the commandline does not cause
the same issue and in Linux the kernel commandline exceeds the 255
character

Standard file extensions for zipped floppy images
Hi,
I was wondering what's the best standard file extension for zipped DOS
disk images and ramdisks. I've been using the following standard:
.zi kernels, memtest86, memdisk
.igz .img.gz zipped floppy images and ramdisks
I'd rather have a different extension for ramdisks, maybe
.zim zipped floppy images
.zrd zipped ramdisks
Any ideas ?
It would also be nice if syslinux

CentOS Events on wiki menu
Hi,
Is it possible to rename the CentOS Events tab to simply Events ?
The other tabs do not include CentOS either.
For a published article today I required a desktop screenshot. However on
1024x768 with a non-fullscreen browser at wiki.centos.org, the number of
tabs required me to make the browser-width larger than I liked it to be.

menu module behaviour for menu exit
Hi,
I was looking for a way to have a submenu go back to the previous menu
when you use Escape inside the submenu. Or to return back to a menu when
you return from a com32 entry (eg. kbdmap, hdt or rosh).
I had hoped something like this worked:
----
default bootlocal
prompt 1
label menu
menu hide
kernel menu.c32
label bootlocal
menu hide
localboot -1
menu begin main

VPD information, macros and syslinux
Hi,
I would be very interested in a possibility to create variables or macros
within syslinux. One of the things I would like to have is a way to query
DMI/VPD information, and use that as kernel parameters or to influence eg
menu's or boot labels (based on system information).
One of those very specific needs is to get the MAC address of the first
onboard interface (which is available

[artwork] Image for external links
Hi,
Can we use the same image for external links on the wiki as we are using
for Trac ? It is much less obtrusive in pieces of text.
A gray box with arrow instead of a colorful globe.

Another attempt for a Team page
Hi all,
I've updated our Team page a bit, added a table for everyone already
there. Now I still don't like the fact that we have the distinction
between the Core members (whatever that means) and the others. Some have a
@centos.org email address, we could use that as a distinction ?
I do think we need to make that page exclusive to people that have some
sort of responsibility, and

Merging Documentation and Help pages
Hi,
Going over the wiki some more I noticed that the GettingHelp and
Documentation page contain the same type of information and could be
merged (and reduced) as well.
On the FrontPage it is called "Learn" (which I like) and
points to the Documentation page. On top it says "Help" and points to the
GettingHelp page.
I would prefer to keep the Documentation page (or rename

Timeout when MBR found
Hi,
I am looking for a solution (that apparently is similar to how the Windows
installation process works) where the isolinux bootloader would act
different when there is no MBR on the first disk, or when there is one.
This is useful for instance when there is no MBR (and thus no OS) on the
system to automatically show a menu (or even start the installation). But
When there is an MBR on the

AW: CentOS 5 release for IBM z/Series?
Hi dag!
Thx for your reply!
So, there will be no release in the near future of centos 5 for Z?
At the moment we got a realy small z/linux installation, but i love it.
Keeping the TCO as low as we can was necessary to satisfy the
decision-maker.
So we decided to choos a free linux distribution, centos was a good decicion
we thougt. (redhat / fedora was always my favorite flavor *g*)

Lua.c32 wiki page
Hi,
I have been experimenting a bit with lua.c32 and I have created a small
lua.c32 wiki page at:
http://syslinux.zytor.com/wiki/index.php/Lua.c32
With my minimal knowledge about Lua (and the inconvenience of not being
able to copy&paste or edit scripts) I discovered that the dmi module has 2
functions (supported, gettable) and a syslinux module with 1 function
(run_command).
Do we

Reorganising general CentOS FAQ
Hi guys,
I would like to reorganise the general CentOS FAQ. It now has 20 questions
about a lot of different things that can be structure much better. I would
like to add some questions, but lacking any structure...
I would like to make a distinction between the following subjects:
- General questions about the CentOS project
Answers about what the project is about, why the project

- Show the original location in every presentation based on these slides

MoinMoin TableOfContents
Hi,
I constantly find myself fighting the wiki syntax. Today the problem is
that I want a TableOfContents that does NOT include the page title.
To be honest, I do not understand why the page title (level 1) is included
in the TOC, and why it does not appear in the head-title (<head><title>).
I found with Google that there is a syntax like:
[[TableOfContents(4,2)]]

FOSDEM 2012
Hi,
Probably too late for the main tracks, but it would be nice to see a
syslinux-related presentation at FOSDEM 2012. There are a few tracks where
syslinux fits in (Configuration and Systems Management, Embedded,
Distribution ?) so it shouldn't be hard to get one or more slots.
I enjoyed Peter's presence two years ago and it lead to an uptake of the
project (I remember Erwan

That is a very good questions and I personally veel very sad that Red Hat
chose to do this.
RHEL5 (and CentOS 5) are based on development done on Fedora Core 6. Red
Hat started off with Fedora Core 6 when creating
