Custom .c32 module which can send tcp or udp packets
I need to write a custom .c32 module which can send information over to a separated service or tftp deamon. The goal is to send inventory information gathered in pxelinux to be transfered back to the inventory database without booting a kernel or os-image. Is this possible and if so, can you give me a hint how to realise this? Thanks, Daniel

[Slightly Off-topic] PXE question
Hello! I am considering proposing my college's staff the usage of PXELinux, to replace the commercial alternative (Rembo). My question is, can PXE boot images be compressed? If so, how? Because a Windows 2000 boot image is already big, but with no compression... it kinda makes it unusable. Thank you for your time and attention! Best regards, sardaukar_siet ===== Uproot your questions

Syslinux 6.03 released (Ady)
Ady, This sounds interesting. I know PXE and related DHCP options somewhat well. But I don't recognize this. Typically, you add PXE-related options to your DHCP server. Either your main DHCP server, or a proxy DHCP server you stand up. To a lesser extent, some smarter TFTP servers (like Tivoli or Rembo) can parse vendor-encapsulated options. They take different actions according to the

PXELINUX v. bpbatch
What is the difference between PXELINUX and bpbatch ? AFAICT, bpbatch doe not require a TFTP server which supports the 'tsize' option. So in the absence of such a server, I may need to explore bpbatch... It seems that bpbatch can be used to remotely boot DOS. Can PXELINUX also do this? -- John

Roaming profiles and accounts
Hi all, I've managed to install an ubuntu server as PDC, everything is working fine. However, i've got a few questions regarding profile ( M$ XP ) and unix accounts. 1. Roaming profile : I believed that when logging off a computer, user's profile was moved back to the server. But i can still find one. Is there anything to do for the profile not to be stored on pc ? 2. An account

bug (I think) in gpxelinux.0 ?
Hi, Currently I am building a new PXE boot environment and during that I noticed something odd while attempting to boot using one of those universal netbootdisks based on the '3Com Universal NDIS driver v1.00' (aka undis3c) driver. Using pxelinux.0 this works like a charm, but when I switch to gpxelinux.0 the 3Com driver bails out on me... all other configuration is the same. Have

A kind request for help please. MEMDISK is causing an issue with the Dell OptiPlex GX280 and GX620 platforms. Booting a PC-DOS/Ghost, disk image is successful (and proper) when using version 3.83. See results below: MEMDISK 3.83: Ramdisk at 0x07eeaa00, length 0x007bc000 command line: initrd=images/ghostclient/280_620/osbootc.img BOOT_IMAGE=memdisk MEMDISK: Image seems to have fractional end

[PATCH] Let MEMDISK honor the quiet append option
When you add "quiet" to the append line, Syslinux doesn't display the file reading progress anymore. When you use this option to boot an image with MEMDISK, you still get a lot of text. ========================== LABEL mydisk LINUX memdisk INITRD mydisk.img APPEND raw quiet ========================== The following patch makes MEMDISK silent when the quiet keyword is passed to the

MEMDISK issue with OptiPlex GX280,620
Good day to you, too. No worries about the delay. I understand how busy everyone is with SYSLINUX. Gladly, the project continues to develop and improve. With that said, thanks for today's flurry of activity regarding my reported problem. Impressively, the debug version of MEMDISK that you had directed me to use appears to have done the trick. Results below. command line:

need advice: runing gpxelinux.0 without tftp
Hi, ?I happily use gpxelinux.0 in subnets where nic-embedded pxe stack can load it from a tftp server pointed by the dhcp daemon. Now I'd like to know the best way to run gpxelinux.0 in a special subnets, where no tftp trafic is allowed, http is served through a reverse proxy, and dhcp is ok. I tried "gpxe on local media (rom/iso/floppy/usb) -> gpxelinux.0" with limited success

temporary fix for gpxelinux.0 not doing localboot
As I had noted in the past gpxelinux.0 fails (on most of my machines) at localboot 0 where as pxelinux.0 works with localboot 0 (on all of my machines) I needed to do local boot by default (not first hard drive but local boot where it ends pxe booting and looks at the next device) I also had a few iso images that took too long while downloading from tftp and I wanted to use gpxelinux.0 with its

[gPXE] localboot 0 hang on some machines with gpxelinux.0
I'm bringing back an old thread, but I'm still having problem with this: http://etherboot.org/pipermail/gpxe/2010-March/000571.html The summary of that thread is that with gpxelinux.0, on some computers the command LOCALBOOT 0 will hang the computer. Around the same time as the original thread, there was a patch to add localboot -1. Also in the original thread, it was proposed to use

gpxelinux and cramfs
Hello all- I'm very new to the whole idea of booting a machine from a network server, so please go easy on me until I can get my head wrapped around it all. I have a boot image that I want to be able to serve over the wire to client machines. I have a kernel and a file system image that I've put on a USB stick, and it boots fine from there. However, I have something strange happening

XP iscsi gpxelinux?
I have a working pxelinux environment. I point the "boot server" (windows dhcp) to my tftp server and "Bootfile name" to pxelinux. How would I invoke the chain loader over iscsi? I was reading the following page and wondering if I could use gpxelinux to boot this? http://etherboot.org/wiki/soc/2009/dverkamp/notes/windows_xp_iscsi I saw examples of san boot here

Hello, I'm trying to boot with a git snapshot using gpxelinux.0 When using 3.73 everything is fine.
