/dev/random problem after moving to zfs boot:
I have one thing happening now at boot which must have happened during the migration to zfs boot. I get an error message about /dev/random: "No randomness provider enabled for /dev/random. Use cryptoadm to provide one." Does anyone know how to fix this?
Another thing: Is it possible to upgrade to a higher build when using zfs boot? Is this what LiveUpgrade does? And is there a step by

ZFS Performance Issue
This may not be a ZFS issue, so please bear with me!
I have 4 internal drives that I have striped/mirrored with ZFS and have an application server which is reading/writing to hundreds of thousands of files on it, thousands of files @ a time.
If 1 client uses the app server, the transaction (reading/writing to ~80 files) takes about 200 ms. If I have about 80 clients attempting it @ once, it can

Help with filing a [maybe] ZFS/mmap bug.
Hi All,
I have what I think is a ZFS related bug. Unfortunately my simplest
test case is a bit cumbersome and I haven't definitively proven that
the problem is ZFS related.
I'm hoping for some feedback on how to move forward.
Quick background: I rip my CD's using grip and produce flac files. I
tag the music using Musicbrainz' Picard and transcode it to mp3's

kernel panic caused by zfs/sa.c
Hello,
I'm experiencing a kernel panic that appears to be caused by zfs.
No errors are making it into /var/log/messages, but here is the error
message that appears on my screen after panic (transcribed):
panic solaris assert BSWAP_32(sa_hdr_phys->sa_magic) == SA_MAGIC,
file: /src/sys/modules/zfs/../../cddl/contrib/opensolaris/uts/common/fs/zfs/sa.c, line 1262
I can reproduce this by

ZFS committed to the FreeBSD base.
Hi.
I''m happy to inform that the ZFS file system is now part of the FreeBSD
operating system. ZFS is available in the HEAD branch and will be
available in FreeBSD 7.0-RELEASE as an experimental feature.
Commit log:
Please welcome ZFS - The last word in file systems.
ZFS file system was ported from OpenSolaris operating system. The code

ZFS and Linux
Hello,
I believe that ZFS and it''s concepts is truly revolutionary to the
point that I no longer see any OS as modern if it does not have
comparable storage functionality. Therefore I think that file
system/disk manager with similar qualities should be written for Linux.
Does Sun have plans to dual license ZFS as GPL so it can be ported to
native Linux?
If not, is it legal to write

Re: Difference between ZFS and UFS with one LUN froma SAN
This may not be the answer you''re looking for, but I don''t know if it''s
something you''ve thought of. If you''re pulling a LUN from an expensive
array, with multiple HBA''s in the system, why not run mpxio? If you ARE
running mpxio, there shouldn''t be an issue with a path dropping. I have
the setup above in my test lab and pull cables

Again ZFS with expanding LUNs!
Hello,
I know, that you had this discussion a view days ago but I''m in the installation phase of our new production servers and I intend to migrate the data from UFS volumes to ZFS volumes in near future. For doing this it must be ABSOLUTELY sure that I can resize the SAN LUNs because during the last 4 years I had to double the LUN size every year. I tried to resize a test volume

Snapshot question
While reading about NILFS here:

I saw this:
*One of the most noticeable features of NILFS is that it can "continuously

statvfs change
An issue was found with the netBeans installer where
the installation was failing on a large ZFS filesystem.
This resulted in CR 6560644 (zfs statvfs f_frsize needs work).
The issue is that large filesystems can cause EOVERFLOW on
statvfs() calls. This behavior is documented in the statvfs(2)
man page, but I think we can do better.
The problem was initially reported against ZFS, and my first

ZFS for Linux (NO LISCENCE talk, please)
Hello. I''m a nobody.
I use Linux. I have a hard-drive. I want the best / sexiest / what ever
fs for my hard-drive, as it isn''t one of those flashy flash drives,
which I presume don''t need an fs (???).
I was THRILLED that the ZFS for Linux thread started. And, I was equally
horrified (and sufficiently annoyed that I am starting this new thread) when
it degraded in to

Configuring a 3510 for ZFS
Hi folks,
Myself and a colleague are currently involved in a prototyping exercise
to evaluate ZFS against our current filesystem. We are looking at the
best way to arrange the disks in a 3510 storage array.
We have been testing with the 12 disks on the 3510 exported as "nraid"
logical devices. We then configured a single ZFS pool on top of this,
using two raid-z arrays. We are getting

No zfs_nocacheflush in Solaris 10?
Hi,
I''m running SunOS Release 5.10 Version Generic_118855-36 64-bit
and in /etc/system I put:
set zfs:zfs_nocacheflush = 1
And after rebooting, I get the message:
sorry, variable ''zfs_nocacheflush'' is not defined in the ''zfs'' module
So is this variable not available in the Solaris kernel?
I''m getting really poor
