Managing output
Hi,
Is there a way to build up a vector, item by item. In perl, we can
"push" an item onto an array. How can we can do this in R?
I have a loop that generates values as it goes. I want to end up with a
vector of all the loop results.
In perl it woud be:
for(item in list){
result <- 2*item^2 (Or whatever formula, this is just a pseudo example)
Push(@result_list,

Indexed Search Engine 0.1 Released
Hello and happy new year.
This message has also been posted to the Rails Engines Users list, and
it was recommended that I widen my audience.
I''ve created a rails engine for adding a fully indexed search
capability to your rails applications.

Announcement: Indexed Search Engine 0.1.2 Available
Hello all.
Apologies... I was a little too eager in my earlier annoucement about
the Indexed Search Engine for Rails apps. The DB migration file
contained an error that had to be worked around. I''ve fixed that,
added more (and clearer) documentation, and a sample application. You
can find most everything you want to know about Indexed Search Engine

Output Compression in Mongrel?
I''d like to implement output compression in Mongrel (ala Apache''s
mod_deflate). I have found a Rails plugin that, with minor modification,
works.
Is there even an advantage to moving the output compression from the Rails
app to a Mongrel handler?
Unless, of course, someone knows how to configure mod_proxy_balancer with
mod_deflate...

Newbie Question - Ruby terminal emulator for windows
I am new to ruby and rails, and am using the windows "cmd" terminal emulator.
It is all black and white. I like the colored terminal I see in peepcode
videos and the like.
Are there any terminal emulators for vista that will give me those type of
colored results?
Alternatively, and preferably, is there a terminal emulator for RadRails
yet? After 2 hours of searching, I have learned a

Best way to sort the emails in a mailing list?
I know this isn''t really rails related, but I was wondering if anyone
had a clever way to sort out which mailing list threads they''ve been
involved with and which ones they haven''t. That way when a new email
comes in and its in a thread you''ve been involved with, you could
move it to another folder.
I''ve looked at the email headers and

UserEngine: stack level too deep
Hi,
I''m trying to get the UserEngine running.
I have installed the LoginEngine, added the essential lines to
environment.rb / application.rb and application_helper.rb.
Worked fine.
Then I did the same with the UserEngine and when trying to set up the
db:
rake engine_migrate ENGINE=user
I get:
Migrating engine ''user_engine''
rake aborted!
stack level too deep
But...

WWW::Mechanize::Link.inspect needs some TLC
The problem: users trying to debug Mechanize apps with Komodo
are finding the debugger times out once it''s loaded a web
page. They don''t run into this in the ruby-debug debugger,
or running in normal mode.
The reason: Komodo''s debugger is graphical, which means that
whenever it hits a breakpoint it automatically shows the
contents of each local variable. It has a

Apache 2.2, ProxyPass and HTTPS
Hi all,
I''m currently trying to get Mongrel running my app whilst fronted by
apache 2.2 in a sub-directory via https. A bit convoluted I''ll grant
you but necessitated by existing systems.
The pertinent parts of my httpd.conf:

basic rdig setup
I''m developing locally on Windows and I have a remote dev box that runs
Linux. I''m trying to use RDig just to index using urls, no files.
Both use acts_as_ferret for an administrative search that works fine.
On the Windows machine, I get no errors, but get no results.
On the Linux machine, I get:
