OpenSolaris 2009.06 - ZFS Install Issue
I''ve installed Open Solaris 2009.06 on a machine with 5 identical 1TB wd green drives to create a ZFS nas. The intended install is one drive dedicated to the OS and the remaining 4 drives in a raidz1 configuration. The install is working fine, but creating the raidz1 pool and rebooting is causing the machine report "Cannot find active partition" upon reboot. Below is command

zpool upgrade wrecked GRUB
Machine is running x86 snv_94 after recent upgrade from opensolaris 2008.05. ZFS and zpool reported no troubles except suggesting upgrade for from ver.10 to ver.11. seemed like a good idea at the time. system up for several days after that point then took down for some unrelated maintenance. now will not boot the opensol, drops to grub prompt, no menus. zfs was mirrored on two disks c6d0s0 and

Expanding a root pool
I''m attempting to expand a root pool for a VMware VM that is on an 8GB virtual disk. I mirrored it to a 20GB disk and detached the 8GB disk. I did "installgrub" to install grub onto the second virtual disk, but I get a kernel panic when booting. Is there an extra step I need to perform to get this working? Basically I did this: 1. Created a new 20GB virtual disk. 2. Booted

ZFS problem after disk faliure
One of my disks in the zfs raidz2 pool developed some mechanical faliure and had to be replaced. It is possible that I may have swaped the sata cables during the exchange, but this has never been a problem before in my previous tests. What concerns me is the output from zpool status for the c2d0 disk. The exchanged disk is now c3d0 but is no longer a part of the pool?! This is build_75 on x86

separate home "partition"?
(i use the term loosely because i know that zfs likes whole volumes better) when installing ubuntu, i got in the habit of using a separate partition for my home directory so that my data and gnome settings would all remain intact when i reinstalled or upgraded. i''m running osol 2008.11 on an ultra 20, which has only two drives. i''ve got all my data located in my home directory,

reslivering, how long will it take?
Being resilvered 444.00 GB 168.21 GB 158.73 GB Just wondering if anyone has any rough guesstimate of how long this will take? It''s 3x1200JB ata drives and one Seagate SATA drive. The SATA drive is the one that was replaced. Any idea how long this will take? As in 5 hours? 2 days? I don''t see any way to get a status update on where it''s at in the reslivering

sharing a ssd between rpool and l2arc
Hi, as Richard Elling wrote earlier: "For more background, low-cost SSDs intended for the boot market are perfect candidates. Take a X-25V @ 40GB and use 15-20 GB for root and the rest for an L2ARC. For small form factor machines or machines with max capacity of 8GB of RAM (a typical home system) this can make a pleasant improvement over a HDD-only implementation." For the upcoming

Gantt Chart Using Plotrix
Hi Sarah Thank you very much for your pointers. Is there a way to specify the date string as POSIXct when reading in? I have tried the following (very inelegant way) and still have no luck. --- Begin Code --- # 1st read in the spreadsheet with stringsAsFactors set to FALSE > abc <- read.csv("gntr1.csv", header=TRUE, stringsAsFactors=FALSE) > abc code tasks.labels

Gantt Chart Using Plotrix
Hi, Your attempt didn't work because you didn't do what I suggested, which was make sure that your data frame matched the example given in the help for gantt.chart. Here's what you have: > str(cdfg) 'data.frame': 3 obs. of 3 variables: $ c1d1: Factor w/ 3 levels "task 1","task 3",..: 1 3 2 $ c2d1: POSIXct, format: "2018-04-01"

Is SUNWhd for Thumper only?
I read Ben Rockwood''s blog post about Thumpers and SMART (http://cuddletech.com/blog/pivot/entry.php?id=993). Will the SUNWhd package only work on a Thumper? Can I use this on my snv_101 system with AMD 64 bit processor and nVidia SATA?

Gantt Chart Using Plotrix
Hi, The help file for gantt.chart states that dates must be in POSIXct format, and the example shows how to do that. There's no reason that I can see that you can't use a data frame as input to gantt.chart, but you need to be very careful that your data frame matches the correct format. I bet also that your character fields were imported as factors, because you didn't specify not to.

raidz pool metadata corrupted nexanta-core->freenas 0.7->nexanta-core
I made a bad judgment and now my raidz pool is corrupted. I have a raidz pool running on Opensolaris b85. I wanted to try out freenas 0.7 and tried to add my pool to freenas. After adding the zfs disk, vdev and pool. I decided to back out and went back to opensolaris. Now my raidz pool will not mount and got the following errors. Hope someone expert can help me recover from this error.

USB sticks show on one set of devices in zpool, different devices in format
Hello, I had snv_111b running for a while on a HP DL160G5. With two 16GB USB sticks comprising the mirrored rpool for boot. And four 1TB drives comprising another pool, pool1, for data. So that''s been working just fine for a few months. Yesterday I get it into my mind to upgrade the OS to latest, then was snv_127. That worked, and all was well. Also did an upgrade to the
