elastic tabstops, proportional fonts, and more
nick said: > http://nickgravgaard.com/elastictabstops/ exactly. thanks for writing it up, nick. the only thing i'd add is the notion that tables should be copyfit to the viewport. if the viewport gives you plenty of room, give the columns some breathing space. if not, tighten them as much as needed. *** > http://readown.googlecode.com/ cool. now how about an

wow. i admired nick's _write-up_ of "elastic tabstops" when i read it... but i skipped his _example_, since java is disabled in my browser. during a re-read, i turned on java, temporarily, to see his example. and i'm _very_ impressed. in real time, on an interactive web-page, nick makes elastic tabstops work, and he makes them work _well_... i mean, i've done it inside

Table of contents
I'm using Markdown in an app and would like to provide support for including a table of contents. Any suggestions for a syntax? Has anyone done this before? My first thoughts are: 1. Have a special header item (using markdown extra's header syntax), e.g. generate-contents: yes 2. Have a special xml tag with optional alternative text inside, e.g. <contents> 1. First thingy 2.

Markdown development
Not only is [Markdown] dead, it's starting to smell really bad. (Apologies to Pike.) It's author appears to have little interest in developing the tool and participating in the community which uses it. I'd like to see the community cooperate toward a specification which addresses the shortcomings and ambiguities of Markdown (even if it need be released under a new name).

Sometimes the direction of UI development in gnome really angers me. For example, when selecting a font for the gedit text editor - there is no way to ask it to only show monospace fonts. It's a fricken text editor, that should be the default - meaning you have to do something special to get fonts shown that aren't monospace. Seriously, who is in charge with the UI design in gnome?

Markup for commands
Hi, I just edited http://wiki.centos.org/de/TipsAndTricks/BecomingRoot and formatted all the commands in section 1.1 as `monospace`. Since the main font and the monospace font look quite similar, it is sometimes difficult to see where one ends and the other starts. Therefore I propose to add the following CSS rule to the whole CentOS wiki: #page tt.backtick { background-color: #eee;

Specific Font with wine
Hi ! I run Wine 20050211 on RedHat 9. I would like run an application which use 4 specific fonts (.FON under windows). I read the manual (winehq.org/site/docs/wine-user/config-fonts-main) and follow the instructions. But it seems not working ... 1. I convert .fon files to .bdf and to .pcf. I moved the .pcf files to /usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc. I'm not sure here to have correct files because

Using Token Bucket Filter to simulate a low bandwidth radio link
Hello, I am attempting to use the LARTC traffic control to simulate a radio link that has variable bandwidth and availability. The basic bandwidth could be as low as 500 bits/sec but will generally be about 4000 bits/sec. If the simulated radio link is unavailable (zero bandwidth) then packets should be queued until a link is re-established. i.e. Initial bandwidth is 5000bits/sec then to 0

I personally love Gnome3 on Fedora. It took me about a week to adjust my mindset though -- I did that over a Xmas break. It did help that I read the release notes first (so I was not surprised at the major change) and went through the tutorial the developers provided. An interesting exercise re-examining and critiquing old workflows and exploring alternatives. It works really well on the

Possible Font problem with CentOS 7
Hi, I've got a possible font problem with a fully updated CentOS 7 system. An example with the man command. #man kill Should return the following KILL(1) User Commands KILL(1) NAME kill - terminate a process SYNOPSIS kill [-s signal|-p] [-q sigval] [-a] [--] pid... kill -l [signal] but what I actually get is the following KILL(1)
