Headless operations
Hi Folks, I'm interested in "headless" installation. If I use GRUB, then I provide arguments to the kernel of things like "headless vnc vncpassword=whoopie ip=dhcp" GRUB passes this on to ISOLinux, which manages the CD and subsequently the installation. Shouldn't I be able to do exactly the same thing with EXTLinux? I ask, because, as you might suspect, I

[PATCH] Dont bypass compiler driver for Dependency generation options
We can let compiler driver pass the right options to preprocessor after processing -Mxy options, right now its bypassing the gcc driver and handing them straight to cpp This also helps in other compilers processing these options correctly for their preprocessors consumption Signed-off-by: Khem Raj <raj.khem at gmail.com> --- mk/syslinux.mk | 4 ++-- 1 file changed, 2 insertions(+), 2

syslinux 4.02 hangs at "boot:"
Hi all, I have a machine that won't boot syslinux 4.02 but will boot syslinux 3.53. We've installed syslinux 4.02 on a number of machines but only this one has a problem. The problem is that the machine hangs entirely after printing "boot:" on the tty. The stanza being booted in /boot/extlinux.conf is: label xe # XenServer kernel mboot.c32 append /boot/xen.gz

extlinux 3.20-pre8 notes
hi Peter, everyone, I recently installed extlinux on my CF drive. after a few botches, it works, with menu.c32 too. Heres a few notes/observations: - menuing seems pretty sensitive to presence of tabs in extlinux.conf, unlike with pxelinux.cfg/default, Is this an oversight, or something Im misremembering ? - extlinux doesnt have the timeout after menu-choice. if I dont choose, it times out and

A Couple Questions About a New Project
My compliments on the release of syslinux-5.0 and happy holidays to the entire Syslinux team.? I have a longer message in me.? Lots of curiousity about the direction of the project, but that will have to wait until I finish my first 5.0 project (*not* my first Syslinux project), which just happens to touch past problems: drive enumeration. This particular effort is on a USB flash drive, with two

garbage on serial console after pxelinux.0 is loaded
We have some x86_64 systems that have DisplayPort and USB ports for a monitor & keyboard and when I use these to PXE boot, everything works fine. However, these systems will eventually become headless and in the production process access to the console will be via serial port. Using the serial port mostly works in that once we get to the PXE boot: prompt we can type in the name of the

Bootable CD for booting of USB HDD
Hi, I bought a USB hard drive, got Mandriva installed on it, and made it bootable with extlinux. Works great on machines that can boot from USB. I also created a boot cd using the instructions in the wiki. This is working too. The only problem with the boot cd is that I had to copy the kernel, initrd, etc. to the cd. This means that whenever I install a new kernel I'll have to create and

SYSLINUX-3.52-pre5: XP BOOTSEC.BIN Bug
I just encountered my only bug w/ the ISOLINUX+VESAMENU combination from 3.52-pre5. Updated a *working* CD project w/ the new ISOLINUX+VESAMENU combo just last week. Booting my preferred Linux distro (Slax-6) from my custom CDs work perfectly, however when I updated a CD project that includes BartPE/WinPE, BartPE fails to boot w/ 'CDBoot can not boot CD: error 4" msg. For the

Can't reliably use RefClass methods in Snowfall
Greetings, I am trying to use Reference Class methods in Snowfall, using R 2.12.1 on Ubuntu Natty. Using then directly seems to work (stanza 2 below), but using them indirectly does not (stanza 3 below). I get an "attempt to apply non-function" error. In addition to exporting the instance of the object I created to the Snowfall slaves, I also made several attempts to export the

Bash question
Hi All, I am trying to build a command line with spaces in the argument. This demonstrates what I am trying to do. Clearly the first two commands work fine. However, the last 4 lines to not. /opt/libreoffice5.4/program/soffice.bin --headless --convert-to csv "/tmp/file.xlsx" /opt/libreoffice5.4/program/soffice.bin --headless --convert-to csv "/tmp/file 2.xlsx" MSG="file

[RFC, PATCH 14/24] i386 Vmi reboot fixes
Fix reboot to work with the VMI. We must support fallback to the standard BIOS reboot mechanism. Turns out that this is required by kexec, and a good idea for native hardware. We simply insert the NOP VMI reboot hook before calling the BIOS reboot. While here, fix SMP reboot issues as well. The problem is the halt() macro in VMI has been defined to be equivalent to safe_halt(), which enables

best practice for managing multiple stanzas within a config file?
What is the best way to manage multiple stanza within a config file? For a splunk configuration file (inputs.conf) I need to manage some thing like [monitor://var/log] blacklist = someRegularExpression whitelist = someOtherRegularExpression [monitor://var/lib/ourApp] There can be multiple monitor stanzas and each may or may not have a whitelist or blacklist. I haven''t found any

Matching username in ssh_config
Hi all openssh devs out there. I have quite a few Host-stanzas in my .ssh/config to keep track of all the different settings and credentials needed to access all different hosts I connect to. Now I have ran in to a problem where I need to switch settings based on what user I'm trying to login to a host as. A simple case is: ssh -i rootkey root at host123 vs. ssh -i userkey username at
