http://www.ruby-forum.com/topic/73035#new Hi, I think I have network issue on my XP PC here trying to run up InstantRails and using it. Authentication to Secondary Domain Controller initially fails when PDC is offline
Ok, I see. Nevertheless, thank you very much for your effort! I must say that I can't actually believe that no one knows an answer to this problem. It must affect MANY people using Samba DCs. According to all the tests on the wiki, everything is working fine. Then I pull the plug on my first DC and no one can log on. And this time I waited far longer than the suggested "refresh

Authentication to Secondary Domain Controller initially fails when PDC is offline
Mathias, thank you very much for your comprehensive instructions! Just one question: Harry suggested that, in order to overcome the below DNS related problems, the TTL would have to be adjusted (lowered). However, the TTL seems to be the only time value not covered by the command provided by you. Is it really the TTL that is the culprit or is it rather the first time value (something like

Vista over VPN loses connection with workgroup
I've a server running CentOS 5, Samba 3.0.23c and OpenVPN-2.1beta4 A laptop running Vista connects to the server over VPN. The CentOS server is local, domain and preferred master, and also WINS server. It looks like every once in a while the Vista laptop drops the VPN connection, which gets re-established soon after that. But the problem is, it appears that after the dropout the Vista

Authentication to Secondary Domain Controller initially fails when PDC is offline
Thanks for the clarification, Daniel. And I like to think my users are fast thinkers and might restart their machines eventually. But without file and compute (Samba 4 member) servers being accessible, my infrastructure virtually is down. Again I ask: am I the only one having this problem? It must affect many users of a basic Samba4 setup: two or more DCs, some Windows clients and the

BIND9_DLZ CNAME Records Not Resolving from Windows Workstations
Hello, In an effort to get MX and CNAME records working, I have migrated from Samba's internal DNS to bind9_dlz. I am now seeing strange behavior where CNAME records resolve correctly on the S4 DC, but not from workstations. Please see the case below where I have foo.internal.testdom.com aliased to google.com using a CNAME record. I do not understand why this is occurring This should work,

Authentication to Secondary Domain Controller initially fails when PDC is offline
Hi, I tested the AD (Samba4) domain log-in on Windows 7 clients and Linux member servers with my PDC being offline (plugged the cable). It is not working so well. On Windows it initially takes forever. It works again after rebooting the client, which seems to be the easiest solution (can be performed by the user). On Linux member servers, ssh log-in eventually times out. It works again,

Application Blocking
On my windows machine I use a software fire will called ZoneAlarm. One feature I like Is the ability to block applications from using the net. I''ve looked with Shorewall and wonder if it does, or was ever meant to. Not a complaint, a curiosity. Kev -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Authentication to Secondary Domain Controller initially fails when PDC is offline
Although I don't know what "dig" actually means, I was able to dig up the following for my SOA: my.domain.tld. 3600 IN SOA DC2.my.domain.tld. hostmaster.my.domain.tld. 29 180 600 86400 180 This is after I reduced refresh interval and minimum TTL to 3 min (180 s). Still, the TTL of the SOA itself is 1h (3600 s). This strongly suggests, that the TTL for DNS info

ipconfig bug with multiple interfaces
Hello, if ipconfig is run as ipconfig :::::: (i.e. long spec with all fields empty) and the computer has multiple network interfaces and only one of them is connected to dhcp managed network, ipconfig ends up in an infinite loop (see the log bellow). The following patch solved this for me. According to README, if the <device> in the long spec is empty, the first interface should be

httpd: "internal dummy connection"
On my Centos 2.5 web server, in /var/log/httpd/access_log, I saw several occurrences of: new.mydomain.net - - [11/Feb/2009:14:34:58 -0500] "GET / HTTP/1.0" 403 - "-" "Apache/2.2.3 (CentOS) (internal dummy connection)" I have never seen anything like this before over many years of watching my logs. I presume it failed because my named virtual host

Samba firts DC fail over
Just a thought if the client machines are still getting a listing in the DNS for the failed machines wouldn't this be a problem? How would the programs know not to use the failed server? Is there a way to temporarily move the failed machines out of dns listings? On Fri, Feb 24, 2017 at 8:52 AM, Vinicius Bones Silva via samba < samba at lists.samba.org> wrote: > No, the question is

Samba firts DC fail over
Hello, I am currently testing for Samba4. The creation of the domain and the secondary Dc implementation works well. But by performing tests for a fail over situation I realized that when the DC that created the domain is in fail over the linux client machine can no longer retrieve the list of users from the domain. I would like to know if a person has already faced this situation and if so how he

Firewall for virtual machines
I realize I'm not getting a lot of questions answered here lately, and I'm going to presume that this is for legitimate reasons (i.e., people don't know or are too busy to think about it), not because they seem stupid (if they do, please tell me, on the list or privately). I run Windows as a VMWare guest on top of my CentOS host, and I generally have not used a firewall on the guest.

Help with "Updating Gem Source Index"
After hearing so much about RoR over the last few months, I finally decided to give it a try. I decided to follow the "Rolling with Ruby on Rails" article on ONLamp.com to get up and running. Unfortunately, since that fateful decision, I have run into nothing but obstacles. First, I downloaded and installed Ruby. That was my last success event. Then, I typed "gem install
