Tesseract OCR enginer
Has anyone here tried the new Tesseract OCR engine that google has recently
released?
I gave it a whirl last night. IT compiles more or less fine on Centos 4.4
if you don't mind lots of warnings.
Took a scanned image I already had that contained a column of newspaper
text, GIMP'ed it to cut everything but the text, increased contrast to
get rid of grayish background, saved as

Which libtiff 3.8.2 do I grab?
Via google: libtiff 3.8.2
http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idpl/2839214/com/libtiff-3.8.2-2.x86_64.rpm.html

for other distributions.
So which do I take?

gscan2pdf, tesseract and german language
Hi Folks,
I've installed gscan2pdf, tesseract, tesseract-de (for german language).
But gscan2pdf offers only english as language for OCR (with tesseract selected
for OCR-Engine).
Where are "points " (config-files or so) to select german as language.
Thx

octave
trying to install octave from epel onto centos 5.2, and getting
dependency errors. only place I could find this RPM was in epel, which
I 'thought' ran on native rhel5/centos5 without requiring any other
repos, but I guess I'm wrong?!?
google tells me libhdf5 is some sot of 'heirarchial data format'
library, whatever that means.
# yum install octave

Can not build Samba 4.7.10
Samba 4.7.10 is unwilling to find my pyldb-util v 1.2.3
Checking for system pyldb-util (>=1.2.3 <=1.2.999)
: not found
ERROR: System library pyldb-util of version 1.2.3 not found, and
bundling disabled
Building of Samba 4.7.9 in the same environment works flawlessly.
What goes wrong in Samba 4.7.10 with detection of pylab?

Reconocimiento de texto
Buenas Juan,

I'm trying to install mod_python from the normal channels via RPM,

Need a package
I have rpms for xemacs 21.5.27-8.fc8. I *think* they will work on Centos
5? If not I can get the sources. However, at this point, I have one of
those dependency hell problem. I need, for now, libtinfo. Does anyone
now what package it is in?
Thanks,
Bob

Zoneminder
I have a few dvr's that I am contemplating converting to Zoneminder (don't
know any other app) and would prefer to use CentOS over fedora obviously
but the only rpm I see exists for Fedora.
I don't want the hassle of manually compiling this, as we have our own config
mgmt.
Anyone using this rpm (srpm recompiled) in CentOS or know of a solution
that exists?
Thanks!

libupsclient.so packaging
Hello together,
after upgrading from nut 2.2.1 to nut 2.2.2, I noticed there's a (new?)
libupsclient.so library. On my Redhat based system, f.e. the "upsc" binary
links against it and is unhappy as the library is not included
in the current RPM file.
If you look at the .spec file for Redhat, the libupsclient.*
stuff is included in the "nut-devel" package only.
