Capistrano /usr/bin/env: ruby: no such file or directory
Hi,
I''m deploying to a prod linux server via Capistrano, but the last step,
running the reaper, won''t complete.
Ruby is stored in /usr/local/bin on the server, and I''m deploying from
winxp.

mcalogin@LX07:~> env | grep "^PATH"

Acts As Authenticated - smarter login box
Hi,
I''ve got AAA loaded and working. I now want to put a smarter login form
on the sidebar of my site.
If the user is not logged in, I''d like to display a typical form in the
sidebar that collects the user ID/password and allows the user to login.
If the user is logged in, the box should display something like ''Logged

Capistrano from windows to linux.
There seems to be a bug when deploying a rails application developed
in windows to a linux box. The rake deploy command attempts to run the
command "/install/path/current/script/process/reaper" but the files do
not have the execute bit set.
What can I do to make sure either the execute bit is run or prepend
the command with sh or ruby?
Thanks.

switchtower, windows and dispatch.fcgi
I just setup switchtower and I am very happy with it. Just one thing is
giving me some headache: My development machine is windows and my deployment
host is Unix. Each time I deploy I need to make dispatch.fcgi executable. I
wrote my own task for that. But does there exist any smarter way to get this
automated ? I think Subversion offers some possiblity to declare a file as
executable, but no idea

capistrano and Dreamhost issue
Hi,
i''m striving to capistranize a foo app on DH.
Everything is hosted on DH to simplify a bit :
- svn repository (http access)
- the application
- the DB
I used the recipe of Jamis Buck modified by Geoffrey Grosenbach which
you can find here : http://nubyonrails.com/pages/shovel_dreamhost
I did the least modifications possible. As recommended.
1) When I launch the

Capistrano: command never finishes?
Hi,
I have created a small :restart task to overwrite the default one:
task :restart, :roles => :app do
sudo "/etc/init.d/lighttpd stop"
sudo "/etc/init.d/lighttpd start"
end
This works fine and lighty does restart, but the last command never
finishes, so I never return to the prompt. Here''s my output:
cap restart

Capistrano deployment pathname error
When I try to do a deployment with Capistrano I get the error "No such
file to load -- pathname" when Cap tries to execute reaper. Any ideas
what''s causing this or how I can troubleshoot it? (Output follows.)
Thanks.

Deploying with Capistrano via cron
I''m attempting to auto deploy a rails application to a development
server periodically during ongoing development. I''ve setup ssh keys
to allow the proper user auto login permissions, but have ran into 2
issues.
1. When the script is run from a cron job as the same user as I
currently manually deploy from I receive an error when reaper tries to
execute - "can''t

ANN: capistrano-runit-tasks 0.2.0
I''d like to announce the second release of capistrano-runit-tasks,
available from http://rubyforge.org/projects/cappy-runit/
It now supports:
* File based templates
* sv as the service control command in addition to runsvctrl
* A much simpler interface for creating additional services.
More work still needs to be done though!
== TODO
* Allow add_service to create more than one

ANN: capistrano-runit-tasks 0.1.0
I''d like to announce the first release of capistrano-runit-tasks.
This came about as I wanted to use runit rather than spinner/spawner/
reaper on my memory limited VPS but should be useable for any setup.
From the README:
This library extends Capistrano to allow processes to be supervised
using the
runit package. It replaces some of the standard tasks with runit
versions and

Hi all
I didn''t get a response to my first post so I thought I''d try again. is
anyone successfully using capistrano to deploy their app from a windows box?
I''m trying to deploy a test app to my dreamhost account but all i get is
"rake aborted!" with no further information. Can someone please confirm if
capistrano even works under windows?
many thanks

Capistrano deploy without irs_process_scripts
Hi,
I am reading docs to understand how to deploy with Capistrano my ROR
webapps.
In guides.rubyonrails.org/2_3_release_notes.html is written:
"If you’re one of the (fairly rare) Rails developers who deploys in a
fashion that depends on the inspector, reaper, and spawner scripts,
you’ll need to know that those scripts are no longer included in core
Rails. If you need them, you’ll be able to

Dreamhost working deploy.rb? Can anyone post/send me a copy?
Hi,
Just trying to get Capistrano working to Dreamhost. I''m hitting a
permissions issue on the reaper file at the moment.
Has anyone a copy of the capistrano DEPLOY.RB file they could post or
send me a copy of please?
Thanks

reaper spawner
Hi,
Anyone know where i can find out more info on Reaper/Spawner.
Currently, every time i add a new account on my production machine, i
have to restart the whole server. After about 150 accounts, this puts a
real strain on the server (it takes 3 full minutes before i can access
any site on the server).
I think reaper/spawner is my answer, but i am havving trouble figuring
out how to use it.

"reaper" is not picking up new changes to my application???
Hi,
Can anyone shed any light on why "reaper" (whilst seemingly working re
restarting my mongrel ruby process) does not pick up changes to my
application? (e.g. changing a title in a view for example). It''s like the
"mongrel_rails start etc..." is just restarting the current process but
ignoring the new details re where the new application directory is. That

Reload an application without restarting the Server?
Hi, I would like to set up a "shared hosting"-like rails environment on
a linux (+Apache1.3 +FastCGI +MySQL) machine. As we all know, rails
provides support for different environments.
Now I would like to enable my "users" to switch individual applications
between development and production mode. In theory, all they have to do
is to add

Reaper Capistrano and FCGI user.group
All,
Looking into Capistrano I have yet to come across anything that discusses
the necessary permissions needed to do a restart of the FCGI processes.
>From what I can see I have two options, run lighttpd as my normal
www.wwwuser/group which does not have a shell account and give sudo
rights to the
user Capistrano logs in to the app server as.
Or give lightty a shell account so that

Protecting Static content
Hi,
I want to build a rails backed site which, in addition to some dynamic
content, also comprises a number of static content files. There are
some static html pages, some powerpoint presentations, and some PDF
documents.
I want to make sure that the user is logged in before they can access
the protected content. I''ve gone through the ''Agile development with

Capistrano, OS X
If you installed your copy of ruby via DarwinPorts, the hashbang lines
at the top of your dispatch.* scripts says "#!/opt/local/bin/ruby". This
is a problem, if you''re deployin via Capistrano to a host with a
different path to ruby (which would be practially all of them:-)
Here''s a fix. Add this "fix_hashbangs.rb" script to your script
directory.

Reaper and symbolic links
Hello,
I''m trying to restart my application fastcgi processes using reaper.
But I get the following error:
$sudo -u www ./script/process/reaper
Couldn''t find any process matching:
/var/www/example/200605200000/public/dispatch.fcgi
The problem is that it should not look for 20060520000 but for current
which is a symbolic link pointing to 200605200000.
