HABTM and getting to arrays from either direction
I didn''t find exactly an answer on this one, so I''d like to get a
clarification from folks who live & breathe HABTM.
class foo
has_and_belongs_to_many :bars
end
class bar
has_and_belongs_to_many :foos
end
(and yes, I have a bars_foos table in my db)
def test_habtm
bar = Bar.new
foo = Foo.new
foo.bars<<bar
assert !foo.bars.empty?

check_box form helper questions/issues
I''m using Rails 1.1.x and it looks like the check_box form helper
expects me to provide and object and method so it can determine if the
checkbox should be checked or not. I''m having a couple of issues with
this.
note: I''m using UserEngine and adding a HABTM so that:
class User < ActiveRecord::Base
has_and_belongs_to_many :foos
end

Instructions required for RailsCron
Hi,
I am writing a client-server rails app. The client and server maintain
similar databases. Periodically, I would like them to synchronize their
databases. For this, in the application, once the user logs in, I want
to spawn a background process at the client that first sends the
client''s new data and then receives the server''s new data.
I am thinking of using RailsCron for

RailsCron: ''every'' in background
Got another question. It''s unclear to me what "every" means in the background
function and how it relates to the RailsCron.create "every":
>From README:
RailsCron.create(
:command => "Object.do_something()",
:start => 2.minutes.from_now,
:every => 12.hours, # default: 1.day

RailsCron for Oracle patch
Hi,
maybe this is of use for some of you. RailsCron from
http://svn.kylemaxwell.com/rails_cron/trunk does not work with an Oracle
database out of the box. One thing is the usage of "start" as an
attribute name, which is a reserved word in Oracle. The other thing is
the datatype :text for the command column. This will become a CLOB which
cannot be queried with an ActiveRecord select.

RailsCron 0.1 plugin
I, like many of you, have been searching for a good way to handle
running long processes in Rails. So I rolled my own solution. I
really want feedback! (I''ve tested this on very simple hello world
examples, so don''t use it on anything production yet) .
Grab the plugin:

Here''s the README:

RailsCron: error message
Hi,
I''m trying to use RailsCron but keeping getting an error when I try to run
it. I''m a beginner, so please use small words :)
-bash-2.05b$ rake cron_start
(in /home/jake/rails_sites/testsite)
Syntax error: "&" unexpected
The little bit I know about my environment:
- RailsCron installed as a plug in (not gem, cause I''m on a shared host)

RailsCron 0.2 questions
Hi all, I''ve set up RailsCron to send email reminders on a daily
basis. My dev environment is Rails trunk on Debian Sarge, lighttpd
running as a regular user.
I''m having two issues:
1) When I run "rake cron_start", I get
rake aborted!
undefined method `blank?'' for "":String
The "blank?" method is provided by Rails, so I''m

Ploting graphics using X tints from a color
Hi,
I'm trying to draw a 2D plot using multiple tints of red. The
(simplified) setup is the following: || year | x | y ||
My idea is that each year is plotted with a different tint of red.
Older year (lightest) -> Later year (darkest). I've managed to plot
this with different scales of grays simply by doing:
palette(gray(length(years):0/length(years)))
before the plot and for each

How to install RailsCron?
Hi,
I would like to start running a background procedure once a user logs in
to his account on the website. For this I am considering using the
RailsCron object. However, I am not able to download it. I am new to
Rails. Can someone give me the excat command I should use to get
RailsCron?
Can someone suggest a better way of running a procedure in the
background?
Thanks

RailsCron: Trigger one time
Hi Kyle,
Thanks for your help so far. Now that I have it up and running, I''ve some
behavior questions.
I want to trigger an event just one time at a future time. I''m using some of
your sample code to try this, but the behavior of some combinations of start,
every, and finish behave in some unpredictable ways.

Getting a MySQL deadlock when running RailsCron...
I''m using RailsCron, and it''s working out very well for me. However,
I''m having one problem right now.
I use the acts_as_background on one of my model objects. In order to
get it to add the cron job to the table, I have to make sure the model
is loaded in environment.rb.
MyObject.load
However, I''m running 2-3 fcgi process on my server. Most of the time

RailsCron 0.2.2, please update
I updated RailsCron to fix some threading issues with ActiveRecord.
Please update if you were on 0.2.1. Also, I am still working on a
good unit test strategy (its tricky because I would think that the
tests must occur over a lot of time), but haven''t had/made time to
give it its due. If you have suggestions, please let me know.

Source for Kernel
OK, perhaps I wasnt clear in my previous posting.
I am looking for either a SRPM for the CentOS 5.2 centos.plus kernel,
or more likely, a diff from the kernel at kernel.org.
I was pointed to the wiki, which MENTIONED a Source RPM, but didnt
point to anywhere to find these for CentOS. All Ive been able to
find are ISO's .
I really dont need a bunch of tools that will complicate the problem,

Anyone got Diskless BOOT working under CentOS ???
Im trying to get a diskless boot set up under CentOS 5.2, and having no luck
at all.
I am to the point of running system-config-netboot, and whatever information
I put in, I get an error message.
Responding to the 2nd button on the first popup, which asks for NFS info,
I put in the IP address of the current machine (the machine that will hold
the boot images for the diskless machine) and the

RailsCron 0.2 plugin
I received feedback from some of you, saying that it would be cool if
RailsCron was even easier to manage. So I implemented a graceful
start/restart inside of the plugin''s init.rb. If you don''t like it,
comment it out and send me the feedback.
Also, I finished an update to RailsCron that allows you to attach
asynchronous processing methods to your ActiveRecord models. i.e.:

How do I query "..." in a function call?
This is probably a very noobish question, but if I want to create a
function that allows an undetermined number of, say, numeric vectors to be
fed to it, I would use:
myfunction = function(...)
{
# Do something
}
Right? If so, how do I a) count the number of vectors "fed" to the
function, and b) how do I treat those vectors as variables, e.g. for the
call:

Autodesk DWG Viewer
Application: DWFViewer.exe
Wine 0.9.14 - mandriva 2006.0
This is Autocad's "free" viewer program for dwf files. I had to install
IE6 first as a pre-requisite. I used the Wine recommended method of
adding that one dll to the windows/system32 directory then ran
ie6setup.exe to install it. The DWFViewer installed fine, but then when
trying to run it this message came up:

[LLVMdev] How to make Polly ignore some non-affine memory accesses
Sorry for the noobish question, but what kind of subscripts generate a
SCEVCouldNotCompute from the SCEV engine?
I tried for a while but I wasn't able to trigger that.
