Package: logcheck
Version: 1.2.41
Problem: Logcheck try to detect if log file have been rotate or not by file size way.
Possible attack:
- current log file (sizeA)
- run logcheck, (logcheck/logtail put inode in offsetfile), offset=sizeA
- [attacker run attack 1]
- run logrotate
- [attacker run attack 2]
- run logcheck may don't detect the rotation and don't check the log for attack 1

Bug#435443: logcheck: have logtail handle rotated logs by itself
Package: logcheck
Version: 1.2.58.0
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch
The attached patch is the diff from current svn trunk to my svn branch
zugschlus200707. It introduces a new binary package logtail2 with a
new binary logtail2 which enhances logtail substantially. logtail2 can
process rotated logs internally, which makes the code inside logcheck
and other programs that use logtail2 easier to

[patch] logtail recheck permissions of offset files
hi
before checking in that chown fix,
i wanted you to take a look.
tested on my workstation.
basicaly the patch takes care that logtail saves the
offset file with the correct permissions.
when playing around lately with file tampering
and those invoking logcheck as root.
i got similar output to #253998
Alfie may point out that i should not invoke logcheck
as root, but i better fix that before

logtail ignoring information in rotated logs
Hi gang,
While writing a script that uses logtail, I noticed that logtail assumes
nothing interesting happened between its last invocation and the
rotation, which means that exciting bits of data could be lost.
This seems a bit dodgy (correct me if I'm wrong about how it works!) so
I made a dodgy patch to logtail that checks for the existence of
$logfile.0, which on Debian seems to always be

Bug#590729: logcheck: please enable syslog-summary by default
Package: logcheck
Severity: wishlist
Currently syslog-summary is only enabled if it is installed and if it is
enabled in logcheck's conffile. I think enabling it by default if
syslog-summary is installed would be more sane. A new option -U
"Disable syslog-summary" should be added in the assumedly rare case
people want to disable it on the commandline although they installed

Bug#258427: logcheck/logtail didn't detect tampering logfile
Package: logcheck
wanted to work on #195935,
but found a less than funny issue, easy to reproduce:
* remove some lines in front of your logfile
* invoke logcheck
you'll get a big email with all not matching lines from that log.
not setting that to high priority because you are getting also the
newer loglines. don't know if i find time that weekend.
wanted to document it anyways.

Bug#503000: logcheck fails due to a perl warning
Package: logcheck
Version: 1.2.68
Severity: important
I upgraded my lenny server today. I guess the previous update is something like two weeks ago.
Now logcheck started sending mails containing only this perl error:
This email is sent by logcheck. If you wish to no-longer receive it,
you can either deinstall the logcheck package or modify its
configuration file (/etc/logcheck/logcheck.conf).

Echo cancel on HFC-S cards and CIDNum setting on outgoing calls
hi all!
I'm running an Asterisk-box with bristuff-....RC8n and 2 HFC-S cards.
I m located in Vienna/Austria. I have the problem that on outgoing
calls i hear my voice as a short echo (about half a second). This
occurs not on every call.
I tried some changes in my zapata.conf, with rxgain and txgain
settings, but to me its
hard to find a configuration which is good for every call i make. Is

[Rd] Citation for R
My subject line refers to a thread from June 2005 where I found
explanations from Uwe Ligges and Friedrich Leisch as to what is intended
by the R citation recommended within the software. Forgive me if I
missed some points within the thread but when I found myself circling
through messages I had already read, I stopped trying to follow it. I
understand and mostly agree with how the R citation is
