Linux, wine and lightroom
I'd love to tote a 'bells and whistles' sub-notebook though the ?800.00 plus price tag for a 10-12" screen machine which can effectively run XP or Vista and CS4 is too much considering I already own a large Tosh notebook (which I'm unwilling to haul overseas...) and two powerful desktops. So I'm considering a cheaper, less capable sub-notebook, perhaps something around

Locking issue with Lightroom and Photoshop
Hi folks, I have an issue at a weird confluence of macOS Mojave's "nsmb" client, Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, and Samba 4.7.6-Ubuntu. Since I don't have much control over Apple or Adobe software, I'm hoping there's some smb.conf magic (or other sage advice) that might help me out of this jam. For reference, Samba is configured for SMB2-only access (i.e. durable file

Installing Lightroom CS3
I decided to try to install Lightroom today and with some very minor tweaks, I had success. First, I'm running WINE 0.9.59 on Ubuntu Gutsy. When you try to install Lightroom (v1.4.1), everything seems to go smoothly until the .msi gets called. Then you receive an error stating that you must be running Windows XP in order to install Lightroom. To correct this, simply browse to ~/.wine/ and

(DeviceIoControl, FSCTL_SET_SPARSE)
Hi David, Configured as you mention, and prior with the other tweaks I had in the first place, Im getting the same results, which is "FSUTIL utility requires a Local NTFS Volume", and mapping it. I then went to contig, `contig -n X:\share\sparesefile 0`, as well as a few other size. Maybe im using it wrong, but some testing on contig has only "Access is denied" when I try

PAM session closes too soon
Hi. I'm trying to keep most of my data encrypted when possible, only keeping the decryption key in memory (and thus vulnerable to local attacks) when I'm actually using my data. In practice, this means using pam_mount to mount my home directory from an encrypted device. It almost looked like I could get this to work with mail as well, even when read via IMAP from a remote client: I
