How to dummy a DB adapter?
I am writing a library module to handle certain StatementInvalid type AR
exceptions. I wish to catch the case where the db adapter in use is not
supported by the module. I would like to test this situation and have
only a vague idea as to how to proceed.
My exception handling method selects the parsing method based on the
adapter_name value.

sound library
I'm collaborating with and electronic musician to experiment on the production of music from number sequences. As I'm an R user I started playing around with the sound library and I found it very useful. However there are several things I do not understand (I'm not an expert in acustic nor audio signal treatment).
The first thing I'd like to understand is: let s be a normalized

NT domain migration to LDAP/SAMBA
Hi,
I'm attempting to migrate an NT4 domain to Samba3, and getting quite
frustrated with stuff that seems not to work as advertised. I'd
appreciate any help.
I've set up an OpenLDAP server, and Samba 3, configured it as a BDC, and
tried running "net rpc vampire". This all works, and Samba does the
appropriate stuff to try and populate the LDAP database. The scripts

Significance of degrees of freedom in nlme
Dear Dr. Bates,
Thank you very much for your response. I had consulted
the algorithm described in Pinheiro and Bates.
However, what I don't understand (among other things)
is why my two parameters appear to be estimated at
different grouping levels (based on the DF values).
Affect this different values of DF at the estimates
parameters? The estimates fixed effects were get at
the same level of

Is there a way to expand a formated ocfs2 partition without loosi ng the data on it?
Hello
I have the feeling this may not be the right forum for the following
question, but I d like to try it here anyway:
This is the case:
I had a 3x72GB HDD RAID5 shared external disk drives (HP MSA500),
totalizing about 145,6 GB of data.
I needed to increase the available amount of data, so I added a 4th 72GB HDD
and using HP ACU I expanded my existing RAID5 Array, I have now about 218,5

Hi,
I have great problems with my work in R.
I look for to model the growth of fish.
I have "Longitudinal data", a serie of repeated
measures for each individual.
Using the corresponding packages "nlme" in R.
I treat to fit to the data different growth functions,
wich were entered by me.
Unfortunately for no it was arrived at the
convergence, several error messages appeared.

I came across the message below and decided to respond. I don't use R but I do use other FSF products and I am a believer in making high quality software freely available, particularly for basic mathematical and statistical functions.
I can thorougly recommend TOMS Algorithm 708 but I believe there are a couple of problems from you point of view. Firstly there may be restrictions on how it

CentOS 5.x and HP ACU CLI
I had to install C5 on a dev server for various reasons (legacy system
support and so forth). This dev server is a HP DL180 G6, with a
SmartArray P410 raid card... I've installed hpacucli via the RPM from
HP's site, but its not finding the controller... C5 (64 bit) is using
the default CCISS drivers for this card.
# hpacucli ctrl all show config
Error: No controllers detected.

Mixing SATA & PATA Drives
I suspect it''s probably not a good idea but I was wondering if someone
could clarify the details.
I have 4 250G SATA(150) disks and 1 250G PATA(133) disk. Would it
cause problems if I created a raidz1 pool across all 5 drives?
I know the PATA drive is slower so would it slow the access across the
whole pool or just when accessing that disk?
Thanks for your input.
