Strange things happening at SourceForge
Ars Technica reports of ?abandoned projects? on SourceForge being taken over by SourceForge with adware installers added to executables. arstechnica.com/information-technology/2015/05/sourceforge-grabs-gimp-for-windows-account-wraps-installer-in-bundle-pushing-adware/ This might be something to be wary of with FLAC considering the main focus for FLAC has moved from SourceForge to Xiph.org.

Alternative to Adobe Audition 3 for G723 > G711 uLaw ? (old Cool Edit Pro)
Can anyone recommend a codec pack with G723 for use under Vista? I have G723 prompts (about 70 prompts totaling 1MB) needing to be converted to G711 uLaw. I tried Audacity but it doesn't have G723 codecs. I tired some google found adware free tools and websites with no success in converting G723. It does appear the old Cool Edit (now Adobe Audition 3.0 for $349USD) can do it -jason

MP3 MetaData in WMP and RealOne
Hi Everybody, It works with Peercast because Peercast receives the headers from Icecast2 and sends its own headers back to the client (Winamp, WMP, Real...). Remember that Peercast is a client AND a server... I guess Peercast doesn't send back the headers in the same way than Icecast2. Maybe Peercast doesn't use ICY/X-audiocast. Talking about Real (v9.0 and 10), I already got the

MP3 MetaData in WMP and RealOne
Hi Stephan, I am talking about the meta-data: Artist - Song. It's weird because you are the second person on the list who doesn't get it working in Real... I just tried again with "BEK_dns" and "Radio Alcanzando Naciones" the 2 first MP3 radios I found in the stream directory and everything worked perfectly for Real (but not for WMP). In RealPlayer, I clicked

non-ascii characters in TclTk
Greetings, R-Helpers: A year ago or so I was able to use the non-ascii character ? in my TclTk. (You can type it on Windows as <alt>0226) I can use something like expression(hat(a)) elsewhere in R, but I seem to be doing something wrong when I try that syntax in TclTk. The widget will run but it displays something frightening like R-call_lang 019C8480 019A7724 where I expected to see ?.

Old packages or Update R?
Folks, I've got a box running Redhat 9 with R 1.7.1. I need the "foreign" package but the one on CRAN is for the current rev of R (i.e., 2.4). Problem is I am naive and also can't find the R-2.4.rpm appropriate for RedHat 9. Can someone suggest a repository of old packages or do I need to build (sounds frightening) R 2.4 for RedHat 9? -Marc

why your computer is running slow
Hello, Have you noticed your computer running slower than ever? The reason for that may have to do with online advertisers adding SpyWare or AdWare to your computer without your knowledge. "Spyware" is a common term for files that are installed on your system without your knowledge that allow companies to monitor your Internet activity. "AdWare" is software that will show

Is glusterfs ready?
Hey, since RH took control of glusterfs, I've been looking to convert our old independent RAID storage servers to several non RAID glustered ones. The thing is that I, here and there, heard a few frightening stories from some users (even with latest release). Any one has experienced with it long enough to think one can blindly trust it or if it is almost there but not yet ready? Thx, JD

OT: LSI SAS1068e / Perc6/iR RAID Health
Is anybody here monitoring Dell SAS6/iR RAID health? I have a mix of CentOS 5.9 and 6.3 installs on the PE1950s. I'm finding drivers and Megaraid Storage Manager downloads via LSI's site, but I'd prefer not to install a bunch of crapware. All I need is the proper LSI daemon which exports info via SNMP. I've used check_sasraid_megaraid Nagios script [0] in the past for PERC5i and

Migrating W2K AD to Samba?
After a frightening experience with W2K Active Directory, we've been considering an "emergency migration" to Samba. I've been looking at both 2.2.7 and the latest 3.0 alpha, but have found little information about migrating from W2K. Most information seems to be about Windows NT PDC. What I've tried is to pull the information from the AD tree with pwdump3 and put it in the

smbclient & NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
I'm running smbclient 3.0.14a-Debian. I'm trying to view shares on a Windows server on a Active Directory domain: $ smbclient //fileserver/ Password: session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE I'm pretty sure the username and password is correct since it works when I use a Windows client to connect to the fileserver. What does the NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE mean in this

The law in France (Code P?nal, article 227-24) states that a public network is not allowed to broadcast messages containing violence, pornography or any content contrary to basic human dignity, which is theoretically punishable with three years of prison or a 75.000 ? fee. The lone PC in Raleigh
Last week I had the pleasure of attending the Raleigh area Ruby users Meetup. It was very interesting and very informative. I did feel a bit out of place when we noticed that of the 11-12 people there, I was the only one with a PC laptop. The rest were shiny macs. Ah well, I need to replace this thing soon, and now that BootCamp is out, I really have no more excuses. This way I can test

Get rid of those secret files.........................now . 1256
It's a fact Did you know......... For example that every click you make on Windows 98 Start Menu is logged and stored for ever on a hidden encrypted database within your own computer? your PC is keeping frightening records of both your online and off-line activity. Pretty frightening.............. I was shocked at what I found. Files I shredded months earlier were clearly visible using this
