Patching Wine 1.0-rc1 with 3dmark.diff
Hey guys, I'm a new Ubuntu convert (installed through Wubi, and am blown away!) I'd love to get wine working so I play games etc, but I've got a lot of learning to do when it comes to installing and getting things working. So, I want to use the 1.0-rc1 version of wine, but CoD4 requires the 3dmark.diff patch. This is what I think I need to be doing: with the 3dmark.diff file

R + Linux
Dear all; I'm planning to install Linux on my computer to run R (I'm bored of W..XP). However, I haven't used Linux before and I would appreciate, if possible, suggestions/comments about what could be the best option install, say Fedora, Ubuntu or OpenSuse which to my impression are the most popular ones (at least on the R-help lists). The computer is a PC desktop with 4GB RAM and

Childrens Game: Barbie Pegasus does not run
Hello All, I recently converted my wife over to Ubuntu 8.04 and wanted to do the same to my children's PC. I have checked AppDB and was unable to find a listing for this game already. I am testing their games in a virtual machine (VirtualBox) with Ubuntu 8.04 and wine-1.0-rc2. When I double-click on the icon for the game, it thinks for a minute like it was trying to launch but then

install rJava in Ubuntu 11.10
I am trying to install rJava on a WUBI Ubuntu 11.10 installation of R with no luck. I was originally trying to install the iplots package and encountered this rJava problem. Code used: install.packages("rJava") (CRAN mirrors --Canada(ON) and Canada(QC2) I installed iplots with no problem on Windows 7. I know just about zero about Ubuntu or Linux in general so I have no idea what I

Hi, I am using Ubuntu wubi and the version of the llvm is 2.8. I followd the instruction in the llvm site ("http://llvm.org/docs/GettingStarted.html") and tried to run the hello program. Another failed attempt to install an R package in Ubuntu
I am running Ubuntu 8.04 through Wubi on a HP Pavilion dv4000 (my home computer) and I recently installed R 2.7.1. I attempted to install the randomForest package from within the R environment and from the Linux terminal. Both attempts failed. I've tried several mirrors but with no luck. Below is an example of the series of error messages I got when R told me that the installation

drive mapping
Hello. I am a new user of wine. I boot from a linux drive and have a second HD, which can run windows xp, as the secondary master. I eventually got my windows program to run with wine, but the drive/partition that it is on is considered to be drive F: by wine. The program tries to read files from drive C:\xxx and can't find them because that drive is now considered to be "F:".

Does Wine only work when Windows is on Drive C:?
I have a couple of triple boot systems. On each, Windows is NOT Drive C or Drive C is a useless application like Vista. This system is one where Vista is Drive C. The Vista stuff on drive C conflicts with the XP installation on Drive E. All the applications I would like Wine to run for me are XP applications on Drive E. There are no Vista applications worth using Wine to run. Before I

how to resize a partition of a disk define as a physical volume
Hello, I have a CentOS VM with only one disk on a Xenserver. The disk has 2 partitions: /dev/xvda1 -> /boot /dev/xvda2 -> a physical volume for LVM I added 5GB to this disk via Xencenter to extend /dev/xvda2. Usually I just have to do "pvresize /dev/xvda" to have the additional space added to the disk. But for some reason it does not work for this disk. [root ~]# pvresize

Tape operation
Hi all, My only encounter with tape-backup was with Windows 2000. With it, when we backup things using windows' backup tool, it will create a 'catalog', then the catalog contains all the backup operations we do based on date. So, with this we can "append" many backups into one tape. Next time we want to restore a backup, we can choose what date available in that
