Samba 3.2 PDC - Creating Zone Identifier files and not able to read/write/delete them.
Hello, I use a Suse 11.0 as a Samba 3.2 PDC. The clients run XP SP3. I have upgraded a few weeks ago from Suse 10.3 and now all files tranfer that I do - for example, downloading a file using a web browser - it leaves a trash file named "transferd-file:Zone.Identifier" or "tranferd-file:encryptable". The odd thing is that from Windows I can`t read/write/delete these files.

Variable selection in R
Disclaimer : Short of having local statistical expertise at hand, I'm using this list because I use R for variable selection in the context of linear multiple regression but the questions I have relate more to basic statistics than to R per se. Please redirect me to another appropriate list if such a list exists. I have the very common problem of identifying which (subset of) variables are

Wine runs your malware!
http://www.trustedsource.org/blog/186/Running-Windows-Malware-in-Linux So: avoid running toxic waste, and use a fresh .wine and run ClamAV over it regularly if you're fond of trying random binaries found on the Net a lot ;-) - d.

Prediction intervals for beta regression
Dear all, I am trying to get an estimate of uncertainty surrounding a single predicted value from a beta regression model (this is similar to a logistic glm - in that it involves a link function and linear predictor - but it uses the beta distribution rather than discrete binomial). For example: library(betareg) data("GasolineYield")

Revisiting mime-types and file extensions
Hi, I'm in the process of adding support for Markdown to a minimal CMS in Rails, [Railfrog][railfrog], which uses mime types to select appropriate processing. I have had a look through the archives but have not been able to see that a consensus has emerged as to what such a mime type for Markdown should look like. My reading of the RFCs suggests that it should be within the "text/*"

playing with Wine on Cygwin
I'm currently playing with Wine on Cygwin on Windows 2000 on VirtualBox. Just to see what happens. Also to see how feasible Wine on Windows is from here. I've been updating the http://wiki.winehq.org/CygwinSupport page accordingly. With the 1.1.11 source tarball, I'm getting a compile error: internettransport.c:348: error:

MakeTestFailures
http://wiki.winehq.org/MakeTestFailures I downloaded and compiled from bleding-edge git and ran these last night. I boggled slightly when the unit testing actually crashed X (Kubuntu Hardy, kwin) - is anyone else getting this? I ran the tests again in failsafe (just a naked xterm - or, rather, konsole - and no window manager) and they finished and submitted OK. (Are others running these? By the

CentOS 6 mount of ntfs formatted usb stick fails
I recently received an 8GB usb stick that fails to mount on my fully patched CentOS 6.5 desktop machine. The stick works just fine on a windoze 7 laptop (my daughter's) with no special drivers installed. fdisk -l /dev/sdf gives the following: Disk /dev/sdf: 8004 MB, 8004829184 bytes 102 heads, 38 sectors/track, 4033 cylinders Units = cylinders of 3876 * 512 = 1984512 bytes Sector size

Keeping file creation time on Samba file shares
Hello. I am managing an IT environment with a mixed populatiion of WindowsXP clients, Win2000 servers and a fast growing number of Samba servers (both Fedora and RedHat --- latest versions). I have run into a problem when applications on the XP clients store data on the Samba shares and the NTFS metadata "file creation time" is lost. For the applications used, this metadata is

dovecot-2.1-pigeonhole-0.3.0 identifier redeclared: sieve_multiscript_run (patch)
Hi, I recently compiled dovecot-2.1.1 on Solaris 10 with Sun Studio, but when I want to compile Sieve for this version (dovecot-2.1-pigeonhole-0.3.0) I get an error: "sieve.c", line 578: identifier redeclared: sieve_multiscript_run and I see that declaration in sieve.h is different from definition in sieve.c, so compilation process fails with SunStudio cc compiler. CentOS to reside near a NTFS system
Hello there, the *old* PC (Turion 64 MT-32 800MHz, 1Gb RAM) of my gf is running Windows XP, and I plan on installing a CentOS beside of it, allowing her to select the OS at boot-time. Other system/OS installing options are not retained, please avoid ;-). My first attempt was to install the CentOS7 GNOME-Live on a USB flashdisk and to boot it on the machine. It was either freezing at grub stage
