Question about Wine 1.2.2 and running uninstalled Windows programs
Using Wine 1.2.2 on a Ubuntu 10.04 box. I have a Windows app I need to run. There is no install program for the app -- it's a simple copy of the executable and the dll's to a directory. I notice that, if I copy the full directory into the Wine Program Files directory, I can navigate there, click on the executable (after indicating it is as such in the Permissions tab), and the app

Only partial installation? Context menu items missing :-(
Hi! I am very new to Ubuntu and thus also Wine. I installed, uninstalled and re-installed Wine a couple times while trying out Wine and some third-party apps like Wine-Doors. Now my trouble is... I just installed 1.1.16, but my context menu entry for Wine is missing. Moreover, when I now select "Open with other Application" from the context menu for a Windows app, Wine is not in the

GNOME menu entries for wine run games
I have been trying to add a launcher to the gnome menu for some of my wine games, but I have found that when I add them to the menu the games complain about missing files, I assume because it is looking for the rest of the game files in the directory that the launcher is in. This doesn't happen when I run the same command within the games directory they work fine. I used to have this problem

Remove uninstalled items from Wine Uninstaller
Hi all, I have a peculiar problem. I tried installing Microsoft's .NET Framework, and the install never completed. So I completely removed all .NET Framework installs using the .NET Cleanup Tool (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspx), which seemed to work. The only problem is that all the .NET Framework entries (including the language packs) for all the versions

Application will only run when executed from its directory
Hi everyone! I am running Wine 1.0 on Linux Mint 5.1. I have a custom developed program that was designed in Delphi using the Borland Database library that will only run correctly if executed from the directory it is contained in. It will not run from the start menu nor will it run from a launcher that I have built on the Desktop. I figure it has to be something with the path referencing. I

The OGG Extension...
Me again... :) Despite all of the comments made in favor of the .OGG extension, I'm still going to have to side with the "different extension" camp. There are a number of reasons for this... First off... from where I'm sitting, it doesn't matter how much of a grey-area you get into, I can't think of a single scenario where you wouldn't be able to say that it was

How to remove dangling menu items
I tried to test Wine for the first time, installing the only application that I already had an executable for, an old version of Seamonkey web browser. It installed ok, but when uninstalled, through wine, had some issues...first the unistall option did not appear in wine, but fixed that. Finally, when uninstalled Seamonkey, it left a second wine menu item in Gnome Applications menu. I have

How do you make wine do real uninstalls?
I have tried installing various GPS/topo map software suites on four Fedora machines under wine. On three of them, the install claims to succeed; the suite fails even to launch; I try to uninstall it; the uninstall either admits failure, or pretends to succeed while leaving the software still there and clickable (but, of course, not launchable). On one, I then ran a Fedora search (beagle, I

Please use an administrator account How can that be? Sure, this installation is getting

Trying to get program to work but no error messages
I am trying to get a game called Mytheon working, it is a relatively unheard of MMO and there is no entry in the appDB for it. The game installed fine, but when I try to run it it it just does nothing. No errors, no waiting or anything. The command line pauses like something is going to happen for a second and then the regular prompt comes back up. Is there some way to make it so I can see

I want to DELETE my current installation of CoPilot. When I try wine uninstall REMOVE, I get the message that the program is already installed. CoPilot does not provide an option to uninstall. I tried out of curiosity to RENAME the folder and reinstall an older version that may work better but still it would not let me install, so I renamed the folder back to its original name and CoPilot is

Wine on Ubuntu 8.10 64bit
Hello I have a complicated question, I'll try to state it in the simplest way I can. I currently have a laptop running Hardy Heron (pure Linux machine). and WINE. It has an AMD 64 bit core but an ATI graphics card. Wine will install PC games just fine, but when I try to run a game (like Tales of Pirates or Guild Wars for example) It will bring up the loading screen, load the game but just as
