Question about the ahci kernel module: missing in the CentOS (4) Plus kernel
Is there some reason the ahci kernel module is *missing* from the 2.6.9-89.0.16.plus.c4 kernel? It is in the standard 2.6.9-89.0.16.EL kernel. Is this due to an oversight or is there some sort of conflict? I wanted to add IEEE1394 support to my system running CentOS 4.8. I *looks* like what I need to do is download the kernel SRPM and patch the config to include the IEEE1394 modules and

Problem with confint function
Hi, I am currently doing logistic regression analyses and I am trying to get confidence intervals for my partial logistic regression coefficients. Supposing I am right in assuming that the formula to estimate a 95% CI for a log odds coefficient is the following: log odds - 1.96*SE to log odds + 1.96*SE then I am not getting the right CI. For instance, this is a summary of my model:

bwi: no DS tssi no OFDM tssi
Hello, I am attempting to get by broadcom wifi card up and running, am sick of trying to get ndis working, and am attempting to use the bwi driver (originating in dragonflyBSD). I'm hoping others here have tried to do the same and have some pointers. I'm using 7.1-RELEASE (system/source are in-sync) and my card is a BCM94306MP. My dmesg is posted below. Bwi(4) is installed and it

Orinoco 802.11b PC Card doesn't work on STABLE
Hi, I have Orinoco 802.11b PC Card from Proxim. I plugged it to pcmcia slot, but It doesn't work - no blinking LEDs, no wi0 in ifconfig. I have 7.1-PRERELEASE, laptop Prestigio Nobile 157. On NetBSD seems working, but NetBSD is not friendly with me. if_wi driver included in kernel. ----- dmesg Copyright (c) 1992-2008 The FreeBSD Project. 4.9-rc + usb + asus a7n8x == bad news
Hi! Just before we start, this is not the "USB hang on boot" problem. OK? This post got rather long, so I'll summaries it all in a sentence here: With FreeBSD 4.9-rc on an ASUS A7N8X with a cheapo memory stick, simply plugging it in and taking it out a couple of times is a guaranteed panic. I use only one USB device, a cheapo USB memory stick, which I recently bought on a

video source
In order to experiment with the theora encoder, I bought a mini-DV camcorder a couple of weeks ago; a Panasonic PV-GS9 for $250. I wanted a mini-DV because it is claimed that capturing video from the camcorder to a computer over a firewire cable results in an exact copy of the recorded video. That was not my experience. The video I captured to my computer over the firewire cable, using both

Extremely broken BIOS detected
Hello, Not sure where to start looking, so I start with the program that threw the message. Not sure what information I need to provide or the preferred formatting. I did a BIOS update and now get an error message I never saw before. System seems to boot ok, run programs ok, access devices ok (SATA DVD, IDE HDD, SATA HDD, network, video, audio, USB, IEEE1394). But I don't think Linux

Firewire issues with CentOS/RH?
I read in another forum that CentOS has problems with Firewire drives, something along the lines of whenever a new kernel is booted, the drives are gone. Can anyone elaborate on that? I don't use Firewire drives (at all, yet), but information about this would be nice to have.... Thanks. mhr

BUG while writing to USB btrfs filesystem
While untar''ing an image to an sd card via a reader, I got the following bug. The system also has a btrfs root, and a whole swath of processes went into uninterruptable sleep. I was able to poke around via ssh and sysrq, and already had netconsole set up to capture the bug. Root fs is on /dev/sdi1, and /dev/sdj2 is the card reader which was the target of the untar. video streaming
Hi, We're planning to launch a video stream. We do not have anything yet (no camera, no computer, no software, only a Linux server that will do the broadcasting with icecast installed). Has anyone ever done such a thing? What hardware do you suggest? What software can be used (both for Linux and Windows on source side). Can Icecast be used for this video streaming purpose (on server side)?

Ubuntu rJava
Hi I am using ubuntu 8.04 and faced some problems when installing rJava. What I did first was install.packages("rJava") but I could not proceed since: "checking Java support in R... configure: error: absent R was configured without Java support. Please run R CMD javareconf as root to add Java support to R." afterwards I took Alt+F2 and typed: gksudo R CMD javareconf
