Help installing software with multiple cd's
I have been trying to install several games, and all of the ones that have more than one disk fail, one way or another, at the point of changing cd's. Some (doom3) just quit [there exists an alternative plan for doom3], and others (Baldur's Gate-SoA) lock up the cd and won't let go. The only way to get the cd out is to kill the installer. I found the instructions on WineHQ, which say

mount problems during install
Hi there! I'm a very confident wine user and totally pleasured except this issue: When trying to install a program requiring more then one cd (in this case Soldier of Fortune 2) the installer asks me to change the cd, but as linux requires to unmount cds before they can be ejected and unmounting is not possible even by -forcing it because of the program on the cd being in use. Is there any

Removable media security in FreeBSD
I'm working with a FreeBSD user -- a teacher -- who's running KDE on a system on which she neither has nor wants root privileges. She wants to be able to mount and unmount floppies and ZIP cartridges from within KDE, using the standard KwikDisk utility (which, by the way, generates mount and unmount command that don't conform to FreeBSD syntax; however, it appears possible to fix this

Installation of Age Of Empires 3
Hello! For the past couple of days I have been trying to install AOE3 on My Debian Etch Machine. When no actual setup process is required or "installation defacto " Wine functions flawlessly. Here's the deal: The process commences perfectly. The "installShield" Loads nicely, with no trouble. But When I am asked to insert the second CD(I had purchased a 3-Disk bundle), I get

samba and automount
I'm running Samba with automount to automatically mount CDs in a server. These CDs need to be changed periodically, so I wanted to use automount so that they could be changed by the users fairly easily. We use logon scripts to map the CDs to drive letters when users logon. Unfortunately, it seems that having a drive mapped is treated like the drive is being used, so as long as there is

Permissions Error when Installing from Multiple CDs (CIV IV)
Hey all, I'm trying to install CIV IV on Ubuntu 10.10 (64 bit....), running wine 1.2.2 (which is part of the repositories). I put the first CD in, open it up and run setup.exe and everything seems to be fine. Then, when the program asks me to insert the second CD, I get a permissions error. Wine is looking for the CD at Code: Z:\media\CIV4DISC2 which exists when I try to browse for

Mounting and Unmounting shares
I'm running Suse 8.0, Samba 2.2.3a, and KDE 3.0 I'm trying to mount shares when a user logs in and unmount them when a user logs out. I'm able to get them mounted ok. It's the unmount that is causing problems. Whenever another user logs on he's got the same mounts as the prior user. Everytime the original user logs in the mounts are regenerated. In my runlevel file

systemd: Failed unmounting /var on reboot, should I worry about fs corruption?
Hi all, I have Centos 8 installed on a physical machine (www6) with separate LVM volumes for /, /var, /var/lib/mysql etc. System boot proceeds without a hiccup, in terminal systemctl status says everything is OK and running, journalctl says so as well - systemd mounts everything stated in fstab. However, on reboot systemd echoes problems with filesystem on /var : ...// unmounting all volumes

Problem unmounting loop device
I'm attempting to build a virtual disk image for qemu of CentOS4 on CentOS4. I'm having a problem after using yum --installroot to put a minimal filesystem on a partition located within the virtual disk. When I go to unmount it, I get "device is busy" errors. I know that I haven't left anything using that filesystem and lsof doesn't show anything, so I'm wondering

Printing to NT: problem with smbprint
Hi, Maybe someone can help me. I am running FreeBSD 3.2 with Samba 2.0.4b and NT Server 4.0 with SP3 and I added the BSD machine to its server list. My printer is setup on my NT for print sharing. Well if I connect to the share name of the printer via smbclient ( ./smbclient \\\\ESAU\\EPSON -U login%password) I am able to successfully access it and even print. However, when I use the

Problem opening CD/DVD Drive door
Since moving from FC2 to CentOS 4.x I've been having a strange problem opening the CD/DVD drive door after burning backups. A cron job tars and gzips directories I want to back up and stores the .tar.gz file in my /misc directory. I then burn the file onto a blank CD. All goes well with the burn...the drive door opens upon completion. The problem occurs when I re-insert the CD to test

Detach devices using Libvirt+Xen
Hi! We're struggling to get device detaching to work reliably using Xen. We can reliably use the same code to manage devices using Libvirt+KVM without any problems. We've tested this on Xen with both CD-ROM and USB devices without success. See below for detailed descriptions. Thankful for any help! Regards, Daniel Espling --- For CD-ROM, we can mount them using attach-device but
