Wine and Legacy 6.0 Genealogy Program
Has anyone had any positive experience in installing the Legacy 6.0 genealogy program?
The only instances I have found appear to be quite negative - to which I can attest; however, I would like to run Legacy 6.0 thru Wine in my Ubuntu OS if at all possible as opposed to using GRAMPS (a great program, but uploading a GEDCOM from Legacy 6.0 from Windoze Legacy has not been without major issues).

Let lmtp create target directories
Hello,
we're using vmm? to manage our postfix+dovecot virtual mail setup,
which allows us to give every virtual user a separate EUID and every
domain a separate EGID for additional security (vs. handling all
virtual mail with a single "vmail" user).
As a consequence, however, vmm must itself create the user
directories with the appropriate owners, and to do so, it requires

Newbie:Family Tree Maker 2009 will not execute-Ubuntu Hardy
I'm new to linux so be patient. I'm running Ubuntu Hardy and have Wine 1.1.5 installed. After installing Family Tree Maker 2009 successfully, it will not execute. The screen comes up like it is going to start and says the database needs to be compacted and then the screen fades away.
I decided to run FTM 2009 from the terminal and see what is happening. Obviously a lot of things.

includes a Family News section, and an Address Book.

Wine beta hangs, Requires reboot of Linux
I reported earlier that I was getting a lot of error messages out of Wine running Family Tree Maker. As requested I updated to the beta version of Wine, but since doing so nobody has responded with any followup.
I now find that after running FTM for a long period of time that Wine hangs up. This suggests to me that there is a memory leak in the beta version. When I terminate the application,

reshape is re-ordering my variables
Is it an undocumented (at least I missed it if it's documented) feature
of the reshape function to do numeric variables followed by character?
I ask because that seems to be the case below.

GSP Family Tree fails at startup missing DLL?
I have an old (Windows 95 era) genealogy program "GSP Family Tree"; this runs in later versions of Windows (using Windows 95 compatibility mode) but I'm having problems with it in Wine.
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and have tried first with Wine 1.2 and now with wine 1.3.17
The installer runs okay and creates the program directory on the Wine C: drive, and I have used winecfg to set

Errors
I'm a brand new wine user, trying to install a genealogy program that the
database says works without problems.
I get a load of error messages when I run the install, and the install never
completely runs. I want help, but I don't know where to start.
What information should I be providing to the good folks of this list in
hopes of getting a solution?
Thanks

TMG -- MS Visual Foxpro errors
I'd like very much to be able to run "The Master Genealogist" under Wine. TMG is a MS Visual Foxpro application for genealogy database work. On my Kubuntu 6.10 system I have successfully downloaded and installed Wine 0.9.30, and then installed TMG ver. 6 including updates to 6.12, the current version. During TMG installation, there was a problem with a lack of

Re: Wine and Legacy 6.0 Genealogy Program
In case anyone is still interested, I'd previously reported success running Legacy 5 on openSuse 10.3, with a few very minor problems outstanding.
When I came to try on Kubuntu Hardy it would install but I couldn't add to the database. This was after adding ole32 and oleauto and vb6runtime. When I tried to install dcom98, it objected, saying it wasn't interested in NT!
Anyway, I

Apache Authorization Access Control - location of, htpasswd in Centos 5.1
I don't think it's the path of htpasswd that's the problem but here it
is anyway: /usr/bin/htpasswd.
The problem is more likely that the directory you're trying to create
the password file in with the command "htpasswd -c /passwd/passwords
famsite" doesn't exist.

Re: Wine and Legacy 6.0 Genealogy Program
I installed the most current version of Wine and then installed Legacy 7.0 onto my Ubuntu 8.04. the installation seemed to 'take'. Unfortunately when I activate Legacy, all I get is a view 1/4 of the screen - not a full screen, just the upper left had corner which shows a partial Legacy screen. I did not get any 'runtime' errors - just the partial screen and the program will not

Lossy Audio Compression Research
Hello everyone,
I'm a student at the Universtiy of Delaware, and will be soon starting
some research on the effects of lossy audio compression on speech sounds. I
will be preforming test with both mp3 and vorbis.
First of all, if I use the '--ogg' switch to lame, does lame use GPSYCHO
to encode the wave, or some other psychoacoustic model (perhaps one designed for

metaflac crashes adding cuesheet
Erik,
I don't know what abcde would be providing as tags, or why on Earth it
would be importing that from stdin. Unfortunately, abcde is a bash
script, and so not exactly easy for me to read. I haven't gotten any
response from posting on their mailing list.
I do get the same crash when running metaflac without the
--import-tags-from,
so I'm not sure this is the problem. Unless
