rsync not transferring files
I really want to thank you for taking time to help me with this.
I have changed the rsyncd.conf as per you suggestion below.
I have several different systems that sync to the server and today they
were showing this

4.10.2 not connecting to (old) NAS
I am running the PCLinux OS (kernel 5.10.12) and it has recently
upgraded samba to 4.10.2.?? With the upgrade the connection to my NAS
units have ceased to work.?? The NAS is a DLink DNS-343 (old but they
work).?? I have five of them in my network and use them for secondary
storage so only spin them up when I need them.
My last access to the NAS was about a month ago before the upgrade to

How to freeze_edge with TortoiseSVN and InstantRails
I installed TortoiseSVN, created a local repository at
c:/instantrails/SVNRepository.
I have an app that I want to put into SVN and also do a freeze_edge for,
but I''m not sure how.
I ran command ''rake freeze_edge'' and got the error:
ERROR: Must have subversion (svn) available in the PATH to lock this
application to Edge Rails

Any advice or links to a

STI versus Composition...or the headaches of one big table
Guys,
I have a relationship between model classes that I believe is best
represented by inheritance, but the likelihood that things will change
often is driving us to composition instead.
So, I have a class called Autos, and subclasses called Suvs, Minis,
Mids, Sports, for example.
We have been requested to avoid the STI approach to this, because of
fear of a quickly growing table with

Extending Rails plugins?
Gents,
I''m using the acts_as_taggable rails plugin (not gem), and would like to
add some additional methods to it. For example, the find_tagged_with
methods essentially does a find tag in a list (effectively an OR), while
I''d like to implement a find_tagged_with_all method that would implement
an AND (so if I specified 4 tags, it would only return items that were

OT: Anyone have experience with completelydedicated.com?
Guys,
I''m in the market for a reliable, trustworthy dedicated server solution.
I''ve been running my own servers internally on a Speakeasy Static IP DSL
connection, but recent problems with my local loop has caused me to
reconsider this solution.
completelydedicated.com offers a value Sempron for $59/monthly...a bit
higher than I wish to go but I have no choice. Can

Challenging SQL for you...
Gents,
My heads been out of the sql game for too long (or it''s simply too early).
I''m trying to extend the acts_as_taggable plugin (note: not gem) so that
you can specify a list of tags you''re interested in, and the plugin will
return only those items that are tagged with *all* these tags.
The plugin uses primarily two tables: tags, to keep all the various tag

Image links in stylesheets?
Guys,
I understand the logic behind using image_tag in rhtml to maintain app
portability, but how do you link to images in a stylesheet maintaining
that same portability?
Thanks for your help!

Inspiring Web 2.0 Rails Sites?
Anybody know of any Rails-using web sites that really capture the
essence of the nebulous Web 2.Oh from which ideas, instruction, and
inspiration can be drawn?
BTW, what exactly IS Web 2.0?

nut on pclos-2010.7
Greetings people;
The section of drakeconf that pclos uses has two problems.
First is several screens full of complaints about deprecated syntax in
"/etc/udev/rules.d/70-nut-usbups.rules" at each reboot.
So I pulled the current 2.5 svn trunk, then found I was missing quite a few
build tools needed here that aren't used when building a kernel, currently
running a 32 bit

Programming with designers in mind
Gents,
We''re hard at work on a new Rails app. We''re a small group of
developers...not a web designer in the bunch. We know CSS enough to be
dangerous, but we shy away from the "softer" skills (all the while
envious of those with that capability).
We intend to grow our application in terms of functionality, but I need
to make sure we keep an eye towards

Does Wine support the NVIDIA 7186 drivers?
A query regarding WINE support for older hardware: Does Wine support the NVIDIA 7186 drivers, or are they too old and unsupported now?

.NET developer trying to understand some Rails basics
Hi All,
I''ve been a ASP.NET developer for the last few years and consider it to
be a pretty productive environment to work with. However, the
object-relational mapping (ActiveRecord) and simplicity of the Rails
framework and Ruby in general really appeals to me. .NET currently
doesn''t have something like Rails'' ORM - atleast not out-of-the-box.
Here''s my

Beating the authentication horse (dead yet?)
Guys,
I''m frankly overwhelmed by the number of Rails authentication options(?)
out there...from ActiveRBAC to acts_as_authenticated to LoginEngine and
so on...so many options, yet on resource I''ve found really distinguishes
between each.
This is sad, as authentication and user management is really an area
where some Rails simplicity pixie dust could be a real boon to

Problem Installing RMagick with Instant Rails on Windows
I''m running Instant Rails 1.4 on Windows XP with SP2.
I have downloaded the Windows binary version of RMagick from the
RubyForge page.
Specifically, I have downloaded:
1.14.1 binary gem for Ruby 1.8.5 (fixed for RubyGems 0.9.4)
RMagick-1.14.1_IM-6.3.0-7-Q8-2.zip
I have removed any older versions of RMagick using:
gem uninstall RMagick
I have updated my version of rubygems.

Problems installing Rmagick on Ubuntu
I want to install Rmagick on Ubuntu 7.10, but i am getting this error
when running gem install rmagick:
Can''t install RMagick 2.2.0. You must have ImageMagick 6.3.0 or later.
(I installed imagemagick and libmagick9-dev prior to that)
I installed rmagick through Synaptic, and it says that i have version

Best Linux distibution for ruby on rails developement?
Hi,
I am on Kanotix linux since the first distribution was released by Kano.
However I am tired of the "if it can go wrong it will go wrong on
Kanotix" pattern.
Please recommend a distribution that by your experience is best for ruby
on rails development and need no hour-long tweacks for even "simple"
tasks.
Thanks,
Jan Martin

Rmagick not handling GIF files properly...
Tracked down the source of my problem...
It seems that Rmagick isn''t properly cropping/resizing GIF or PNG images
when uploaded via file_column. I can upload JPG files just fine.
Originally I had installed ImageMagick via Debian''s apt-get and built the
rmagick gem using "gem install rmagick". This wasn''t working so I
uninstalled ImageMagick and tried to

Frustrating "require" problems with RMagick
I am using RMagick in my app and am having problems in deployment. The
deployment machine (Fedora Core 5) can''t find RMagick unless I change
the "require" syntax from that used on the dev machine (OS X). And the
dev machine doesn''t like the syntax that works on the deployment server!
To wit:

$ script/console

Image manipulation/resizing server-side?
I''d like to implement a system in a Rails app where I allow the user to
upload an image file, and then the app takes that image and manipulates
it, saving a thumbnail, small, and original size version of the file to
the server.
How would I go about doing that?
Thanks,
Jeff
