Hello,
I''ve setuped an ethernet bridge on a debian sarge 3.1 with l7-filter +

The server is a supermicro p4sci + celeron pentium 4 base 3ghz + 512Mb
+ 2 ethernet e1000
One interface is connected to a cisco catalyst switch
The other interface is connected directly to a CMTS (a sort of router
for cable modem) configured as bridge too.

Linux router performance
Hi,
I wonder about the performance of a Linux box used as router (I guest I''m
not the first :). Althought I know it mainly depends on the hardware, I''m
trying to find some references on the topic or comparations with other
routing solutions (FreeBSD box used as router, Cisco, etc). For example,

Intel Quad NIC made visible in guest -> system crash
Hi!
we have two Intel Quad Nic 82576, PCI ID 8086:10E8 and use the igb
driver 1.3.19.3 on Debian 5.0.1.
I used the pciback.hide XEN kernel parameter and made on of the NIC''s
interfaces available in a DomU.
Now, when I am starting the VM, the system crashes (log attached)
I also tried to boot with the irqpoll option - the Interrupt Disabled
message still appears when I try to start the

How can I change the speed of tun interface?
Hi, experts
I found the tun0 is 10Mb/s and I installed vnstat to monitor the tinc vpn traffic statistic, but due to 10Mb/s, the vnstat couldn’t update it’s database due to low speed rate, so anyway to change the tun from10Mb/s to higher?
[root at box1 ~]# vnstat -u
Info: Traffic rate for "myvpn" higher than set maximum 10 Mbit (248->341, r735 t38), syncing.

celtclient 64kbps more than expected
Hi,
The default settings for celtclient are:-
Sampling rate 48000
Frame size 256
Packet size 43
According to my calculations this should give a bitrate of 64kbit/sec +
a little extra for the 32bit time stamp and 4 null byte pseudo header.
Using vnstat I was very surprised to see that it was reporting a bitrate
usage of around 16kbyte/sec which is 128kbit/sec, double what I was
expecting.

unique
Hello everybody,
I've got a problem concerning the function unique. I have got a
data.frame "shopdata" with 1000 shop which were evaluated at different
points in time.
With function subset I chose those shops with more then 10 employee and
store it in data.frame "bigshopdata" with 700 shops.
bigshopdata=subset(shopdata, shopdata$employee>10)
Now I use

the EXTRAVERSION problem in dh-kpatches...
... is actually old & very well known by the maintainer!
there is a bug report for exactly this that is 3 years and 124 days old!
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=165505
I can also add my report to this bug and mention that we need a fixed version
for our xen packages, but as it looks for me (at the moment) the maintainer
is not really interessted in getting this

logcheck-database -- volatile?
A new archive was announced for packages that have need for frequent changes
[see below]. In theory, we should not have to update logcheck rules in
Sarge, because we know that it's packages, with the exception of security
updates will remain constant.
This does not change the fact that we may wish to update the database on
sarge <:

NIC traffic monitoring, recording and reporting software?
I have a remote CentOS-5.3 installation that shares traffic with
another enterprise. I want to record and measure the actual network
traffic that comes into and goes out of that host's net i/f on a
monthly basis for billing verification purposes. Does CentOS have a
software package to accomplish this?
I have run across references to a package called vnstat as a

Testing Help
Hi,
I am wondering if you may be able to help me.
I have an application that has been developed by a third party and is being
used in some field locations. My challenge is that I have no way of
independently testing the product across the WAN at this point. All
testing they have proposed required manual intervention and subjective
analysis. I am not comfortable deploying the solution in this

Debugging system load - How to start?
Hi,
we run an "old" mailserver system which was set up a couple of years
ago. The systme dose "everything" what we need(ed). Over the last days I
noticed an unnormal increase of the system load up to 10 and lots of
users told me that there mailclient connections (sending and receiving)
are dropped from time to time.
I was planing to exchange the server respectively distribut

LDA vs. LMTP
Hi there,
I'm using Dovecot together with Postfix; as I understand it, there are two ways to transfer the mail from Postfix to Dovecot.
1.) by using LDA with mailbox_command = /usr/libexec/dovecot/dovecot-lda -f "$SENDER" -a "$RECIPIENT"
2.) by using LMTP with mailbox_transport = lmtp:unix:private/dovecot-lmtp
(currently using number 1)

EVE Online support
Hi,
as seen the Eve online support improved in the last time.
The problem with that is that these things are only workarounds atm. So
the next step should be that these hacks get improved so they can become
real patches which are accepted by AJ.
The current patchfile can be found at http://elfe.mine.nu/eve/linux/
So basicly some facts about the current EVE status:

Must be a better way to collate sequenced data
I have data that looks like this
time_stamp (seconds) user_id
The data is (partial) ordered by time - in that sometimes transactions occur at the same timestamp. The output I want is collated by transaction time on a per user basis, normalized by the maximum number of transactions per user, and aggregated over each day. So, if the users have 50 transactions in the first day and 20 transactions

help with binary outcome

After that training I checked every week within 4 weeks (Zeit= 1-4 in my data), if the participants used the training skills (FLEXPV). unfortunately I didnŽt use any real scale for this item, so it´s only binary coded 0/1 0=not put in practice 1=put in practice.
