Separating file_column upload directory by account
I''m working on an app right now that uses http://www.kanthak.net/opensource/file_column/index.html Sebastian Kanthak''s file_column plugin for file uploads. The usual directory structure it saves to is: model/attr/id/filename For my current project, I''d like to separate uploads by account so that it''s easier to monitor an account''s resource usage.

Rails Plugins: Why to register your own functionality with send()?
Hi there, I have seen in the file column plugin ( http://www.kanthak.net/opensource/file_column/) from Sebastian Kanthak or David''s acts_as_taggable plugin that to register my functionality I need to do something like this: ApplicationHelper.send(:include, InPlaceEditAssociations) I am wondering why not: (a) module ApplicationHelper include InPlaceEditAssociatons end or: (b)

partials and instance variables for file_column
Hi, Sebastian Kanthak of the file_column-Plugin wrote once: "is the photo object inside a local variable or an instance variable (e.g. photo or @photo)? url_for_file_column only works with instance variables, like all other active record form helpers. Could this be the problem?" So I''m using file_column in a partial, e.g. <%= render (:partial => "product",

RMagick Resizing Issue
Hello ~ I have RMagick and file_column working in RoR. In my model I am setting up some standard sizes for the submitted photos. The photo files are created and named correctly, but the sizes are wrong. Only the second argument of my geometry call is used, with the width dimension being resized proportionately. file_column :image, :magick => { :versions => { "medium" =>

Dynamic file paths in FileColumn
I have a file uploader application in ROR using the very nice FileColumn plugin. In looking at the source code I can see that there is a DEFAULT_OPTION hash with some root path options and such which can be merged from an options paramater. These static path changes are not a problem. My question is dynamic path options. My upload form, when you boil it down, has two fields. The first is

problems with file_column plugin
1) installation is not as smooth as some other plug-ins. If you follow the instructions on http://www.kanthak.net/opensource/file_column/ it makes a directory called trunk instead of file_column. You have to manually rename it to file_column. I guess this is a minor annoyance but it gives me the feeling that things aren''t quite like other plugins. 2) I get this error: undefined

Create new Image Plugin?
I''m working on a CMS for some time now. I need some kind of functionality to deal with images. As I know there are to plugins available: SuperImage and FileColumn. Neither of these have exactly what I want. What I want is a plugin with the following functions: - A poppup window (or ajax field) where you can search for, scroll trought pictures, find the one you will have, press on that,

Proxies
I really like the idea of Mock Proxies as explained in Brian Takita''s post here: http://pivots.pivotallabs.com/users/brian/blog/articles/352-introducing-rr I posted to this list eariler with an incomplete implementation of .stops_mocking in the thread "Mocking Time, delegating to original object." The Mock Proxy pattern would make this simpler.

Returning the mock associated with an expectation.
I was reading through the FlexMock docs and noticed the expectation method .mock, which returns the original mock associated with an expectation. It looks really handy for writing nice all-in-one mocks like: mock_user = mock(''User'').expects(:first_name).returns(''Jonah'').mock So I started playing around with mocha and found I could actually already do this!

BUGS n code generated for target i386 compiling __bswapdi3, and for target x86-64 compiling __bswapsi2()
I just compiled the two attached files in 32-bit mode and ran it. It printed efcdab8967452301. I verified via objdump that the my_bswap function contains the follow assembly which I believe matches the assembly you linked to on godbolt. _my_bswap: 1f70: 55 pushl %ebp 1f71: 89 e5 movl %esp, %ebp 1f73: 8b 55 08 movl 8(%ebp), %edx 1f76: 8b 45 0c movl 12(%ebp), %eax 1f79: 0f c8

file_column
I use file_column and it works fine. I tried to change the store_dir to a the path I want my files to be stored and not the default. I stored some images fine. But when I try to reach my images it seems like file_column uses the model_name/attribute_name on the image and not the store_dir I used. How can I change this ? Thanks in advance -- Alexander Antonakakis

Nested matchers
We''re encountering a failure with Mocha 0.5.6. We had this expectation: game_version.expects(:attributes=).with(:game_file => kind_of(GameFile), :game_id => @game.id) This expectation was passing with 0.5.5, but fails with 0.5.6. I added this test to parameter_matcher_acceptance_test.rb, which passes in 0.5.5 and fails in 0.5.6 def test_should_match_nested_parameters

observers
Just discovered something, thought I''d share in case anyone else was trying to use active record observers. In rails you define your observers in the environment.rb and it instantiates them somewhere during startup. To use that in merb you have to define the observers and then also instantiate them. Add something like this to the end of the merb_init.rb file.

ActiveRecord::Observers?
wow, backgroundrb is great. in about 3 hours we had converted all our daemons over from daemon-generator to backgroundrb, with much more control and power. it''s awesome. the only problem is that we can''t seem to get the observers to load. in my worker, I go like this: def create(args = nil) ActiveRecord::Base.observers = :event_observer

(newbie) #{method}_relative_path empty (file upload 0.1.2)
first off, thanks (a lot!) sebastian for creating this module... I''ve been spending a lot of time in getting file uploads to work. inside a project I''m working on, I''ve got two different models using it... with one of them it''s working just fine. with another, everything works, with the exception of the url_for_file_column helper, which shows

Declaring ActiveRecord observers
Hello I''m using the ''act_as_authenticated'' plugin to implement a small and simple authentication system in my app. Everything is working just fine and the world is a better place to live in. The plugin creates a ActiveRecord observer in order to send the newly registered user a confirmation e-mail. Per the API docs [1], one should declare the observer in the

spec.opts default --load-by and observers
When specing observers I usually put them into models directory under / spec. Then, when specs are run observer class can''t be found unless I remove --load-by mtime from spec.opts. My question is what''s the Big Idea behind loading specs in that order by default? Shouldn''t default spec.opts contain just formatting options? Because as you see it DOES cause problems

Active Record Observers causing 404''s and other weird issues
Hi all. I''ve got a simple AR Observer: class NewOrderObserver < ActiveRecord::Observer observe NewOrder def after_create(object) Note.create(...) end end In environment.rb I have the following line: config.active_record.observers = :new_order_observer And in application.rb I have: NewOrderObserver.instance Aside from simply not working, it''s causing

adding observers outside environment.rb
I need to add an ActiveRecord observer and thought I should follow Rails 2 intent by not changing the base environment.rb I create a file config/initializers/observers.rb but don''t know what to add to it. I can''t add: config.active_record.observers = :user_observer Since "config" isn''t defined in the scope of the initializer file and I don''t know if
