So, what about clustering and load balancing?
Hello world, so, with beta2 of Dovecot 2.0 being available, what is the preferred way to achieve load balancing and fault tolerance? As far as I can see it, there are basically two options: 1) Use a HA shared storage, export either a cluster filesystem or NFS, and have your dovecot servers mount that file system. Load balance these servers (Cisco ACE, ldirectord, ...) and there you go. Overall

Networking voicemail
Is there a way to network the asterisk voicemail system between offices? We would like the ability to forward a voicemail to another user at a branch office (each office would have their own asterisk server connected via iax), I guess I would prefer not to use one central server for voicemail for redudancy and disaster recovery, but I guess I'll have to if others have gone this way and I

openafs kernel module
We start to use centos 5 for our workstation at our site (University Innsbruck) and we use openafs to hold the home directories. There would be a big advantage to have the openafs kernel module (and the additional rpms) in the centos extras (or addons) repository with an automatic compile for the available kernels. If you need any help to do this i would be happy to participate in any way.

Re: CentOS and SL, together? -- GPL, LGPL, kernel and user ...
From: Johnny Hughes <mailing-lists at hughesjr.com> > Nope ... I can't build that with GNU gcc and against GNU glibc and > release it ... sorry, no OpenAFS :( ??? Actually, you _can_. You just can't link it into the GPL kernel program. [ I'm not posting this to cross you. But someone correct me if I'm wrong. ] There is nothing in the GPL that prevents a GPL

CentOS and SL, together?
From: Lamar Owen <lowen at pari.edu> > Referencing SL3 and CentOS 3 (as I haven't run SL4 as yet) there were some > scientific applications and some Java stuff, eclipse for one, You do understand the redistribution issues with Java, correct? It's a Sun problem (a typical thorn for Red Hat in general), not a Red Hat one. > part of cluster suite for another, included. >

OpenSSH, OpenAFS, Heimdal Kerberos and MIT Kerberos
Rather then implementing kafs in MIT Kerberos, I would like to suggest an alternative which has advantages to all parties. The OpenSSH sshd needs to do two things: (1) sets a PAG in the kernel, (2) obtains an AFS token storing it in the kernel. It can use the Kerberos credentials either obtained via GSSAPI delegation, PAM or other kerberos login code in the sshd. The above two

Fw: LDAP redudancy problem
Doing some other tests, we determinate that the problem occurs when Fileservers and Ldap servers are not on the same IP subnet. When they are on different subnets, the TCP timeout is about 3 minutes. We could change some kernel IP settings (as syn_retries) but we do not want to do that....another side effects would occur.... As the samba 'ldap timeout' parameter seems to be effective

accessing AFS volume
Hi all! Just wondering whether anybody has any idea on configuration for accessing AFS volume using current version of Samba. The issue is how to get Samba pass correct kerberos ticket on opening the AFS volume. Having Samba to have root access over AFS is not an option as we need the AFS permission to still apply. Upon searching, the most recent info I can get is this thread from OpenAFS

Problems using GFS2 and clustered dovecot
I am trying to use dovecot. I've got a GFS2 shared volume on two servers with dovecot running on both. On one server at a time, it works. The test I am trying is to attach two mail programs (MUA) via IMAPS (Thunderbird and Evolution as it happens). I've attached one mail program to each IMAPS server. I am trying to move emails around in one program (from folder to folder), and then

Maildir + NFS + multiple machines = spectacular failure
I'm running beta7 on two machines, with maildir on NFS. I have lockd running on all machines. I've found that Dovecot is highly unstable with NFS when accessing a mailbox on more than one machine at the same time. Both dovecot machines have: mmap_disable = yes lock_method = fcntl NFS is version 3, exported from a third linux machine. All machines are running 2.6.9 kernel. Any ideas

Solution: NFS & Dovecot!
Hi folks! It looks like Timo nailed down the NFS issues we've been seeing here in last night's CVS build. Anyone running Dovecot in a high-usage environment should check this out. Here are some relevant ChangeLog updates that seem to address the problem: 2006-05-02 11:11 Timo Sirainen <timo.sirainen at movial.fi> * src/lib-storage/index/maildir/: maildir-save.c,

unified authentication
Howdy list, Sorry if this is a frequently discussed topic, or an off-topic question, but I couldn't find much info about my question by performing quick searches in the archives, and my question is pretty tightly related to security... Background: =========== I have a number of FreeBSD machines. Most are 4.x, but a few are 5.x (mainly the testing/devel machines). I also have a single Red

NEC Univerge
hi * users, anyone out there ever come across, worked with or heard anything about NEC's Univerge SV7000 Telephony Server? Link is at http://www.univerge.nec.com/products/list/sv7000/sv7000.html I'm just wondering whether it's as flexible, programmable and configurable as Asterisk. It also looks like they've got a whole range of IP phones

ZFS vs. Apple XRaid
Hello all, After setting up a Solaris 10 machine with ZFS as the new NFS server, I''m stumped by some serious performance problems. Here are the (admittedly long) details (also noted at http://www.netmeister.org/blog/): The machine in question is a dual-amd64 box with 2GB RAM and two broadcom gigabit NICs. The OS is Solaris 10 6/06 and the filesystem consists of a single zpool stripe

OpenSSH and Kerberos / Active Directory authentication problems: Credentials cache permission incorrect / No Credentials Cache found
Greetings, I'm working on the infrastructure of a medium size client/server environment using an Active Directory running on Windows Server 2003 for central authentication of users on linux clients. Additionally OpenAFS is running using Kerberos authentication through Active Directory as well. Now I want to grant users remote access to their AFS data by logging in into a central OpenSSH

Multiple Patitions with with mdbox
Having > 10 TByte mailstore filesystem-checks takes too much time. At the moment we have four different partitions, but I don't like to set symlinks or LDAP-flags to sort customers and their domains to there individual mount-point. I'd like to work with mdbox:/mail/%d/%n to calculate the path automatically. How do you handle >> 10 TB mailstore? I'm very interested in the

Multiple use of the same LDAP attribute
Hi, we've found a weird bug (?) in Dovecot 1.1.11. Since day and age we've been running dovecot for our student mailserver, getting the location of the mailbox from a LDAP directory. We allow login and LDA with both full mail address and an internal username, so the mailbox directory is based on a LDAP attribute user_attrs =
