displaying sample size in boxplots
Hi, I was wondering if there is a ready made function or parameter for indicating the sample size in boxplots? Here's what I came up with so far: library(ISwR) data(energy) attach(energy) boxplot(expend~stature) sample.size <- tapply(expend, stature, length) sample.size <- paste("N=", sample.size, sep="") mtext(sample.size, at=1:length(unique(stature)), line=2,

Combining Data Sets w/ Weights
Hello All, I am still a beginner with R, and I only have a week or two under my belt so far. I'm working with NHANES anthropometric data on stature. I have two sets of data that have different statistical weights. I'm trying to combine those two data sets into one "mega-set" while retaining each data point's individual weight. If you have any idea as to how this is

random effects model
Hi A.K Regarding my question on comparing normal/ obese/overweight with blood pressure change, I did finally as per the first suggestion of stacking the data and creating a normal category . This only gives me a obese not obese 14, but when I did with the wide format hoping to get a obese14,normal14,overweight 14 Vs hibp 21, i could not complete any of the models. This time I classified obese=1

JASP vs R
Colleagues, Many of my colleagues come to me for a recommendation for statistical software. Since I am an R user, that's my typical answer. Some colleagues of mine refuse to use it because of its steep learning curve and lack of a GUI. They wanted a statistical software that's free and that had a GUI. I recently learned about JASP. See https://jasp-stats.org/ for more details This may be

Wrapping long labels in barplot(2)
I am using barplot, and barplot2 in the gregmisc bundle, in the following way: barplot2(sort(xtabs(expend / 1000 ~ theme)), col = c(mdg7, mdg8, mdg3, mdg1), horiz = T, las = 1, xlab = "$ '000", plot.grid = T) The problem is that the values of 'theme', which is a factor, are in some cases rather long, so that I would like to wrap/split them at a space once they

dplyr/summarize does not create a true data frame
I got an error when trying to extract a 1-column subset of a data frame (called "my.output") created by dplyr/summarize. The ncol() function says that my.output has 4 columns, but "my.output[4]" fails. Note that converting my.output using as.data.frame() makes for a happy ending. Is this the intended behavior of dplyr? data corruption - any update?
Just to clarify as i'm planning to put gluster in production (after fixing some issue, but for this I need community help): corruption happens only in this cases: - volume with shard enabled AND - rebalance operation In any other cases, corruption should not happen (or at least is not known to happen) So, what If I have to replace a failed brick/disks ? Will this trigger a rebalance and

A Memoir on FastCGI and Apache
With the release of our filmfury.com project, I''ve been trying to rise to the stature of a true system administrator in the last couple of days (haha). I''m trying to understand how all of the pieces to this apache/fastcgi deployment fit together. Here''s what I''ve learned so far: * You need a separate FastCGI server for each Rails application on your

As a consequence, I''m going to do the following: 1. I''m going to stop personally supporting the entry level tools (samples and quick start guide). These tools are a source of constant
