validates_length_of with char field
I am new to ruby/rails and am having a problem with validates_length_of. It seems to work fine on a varchar field, but when I try it on a char field the extra characters are silently truncated and the message appears that the record was successfully updated. How can I get my app to produce my error message instead? I''ve tried various variations, but here''s one of my tries:

test_create gets 200 instead of :success
Help! I have a new/create process that works fine in the actual app. But when I test I always get a failure in the test_create section. Here''s some controller code: def new end def create begin @borrower = Borrower.new(params[:borrower]) if @borrower.save flash[:notice] = ''Borrower '' + @borrower.FirstName + '' '' +

How do I test a unique index?
I have a loans table and a payments table. Each loan has_many payments. So far no problem. Now, the payments table has a payment_number field, and each payment has a payment_number unique within that loan. For example, Loan A can have payment_numbers 0, 1, and 2 and Loan B can have payment_numbers 0, 1, 2, and 3 (but only one of each payment_number). I can enforce this with a unique index in

How do I create an array to represent an empty record?
Here''s something that''s a snap to do in desktop database management systems (like Paradox or Access) but I haven''t figured out how to do it in RoR, and can''t seem to find any examples by googling, etc. My overall goal is to create a temporary space in which to create and process a single new record (representating a payment transaction), and when I''m

develop multiple apps simultaneously how?
Hi, I am very early into reading the "Agile Web Development with Rails" book, so this will be a very basic question: I tried starting another app simultaneously with the "depot" app, but when I, after creating the database and the stub project try to start the server, it tells me that the port is in use (of course it is, by the depot application!). Can I tell the server

How do I sort the drop-down list?
I''ve added a drop-down list of first and last names of borrowers to a form. How do I sort them by LastName, FirstName in the drop-down? I''m using code based on the cookbook example: <select name="borrower[borrower_id]"> <% @borrowers.each do |borrower| %> <option value="<%= borrower.id %>"> <%= borrower.FirstName <<

[cfe-dev] More verbose -mspeculative-load-hardening

[cfe-dev] More verbose -mspeculative-load-hardening
Another thing to consider about your feature idea is that the output may be noisy depending on what you were hoping for. SLH tries to mitigate anything that could potentially be a problem and thus it instruments almost every branch, load, and function entry, for example. There isn't a lot of signal about what is really a gadget among the code instrumented by SLH. It really tries to be

unkillable imap process(es) with high CPU-usage
Hello, I am having a problem with my dovecot-daemon. It is forking one or more (I saw up to perhaps 8 of them) imap processes under my user name. These processes are consuming a lot of CPU time and are not killable: > PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND > 8616 arno 20 0 2900 1600 1204 R 98 0.2 1196:38 imap Stopping dovecot does not quit these

Find, paginate, conditions and associations
Hi, I''m trying to figure out how to use paginate when one of the conditions depends on the association between one model and another. For example: I have a model Authors which has_many Posts. I would like to find all the authors and order them by the number of posts that they have published and then paginate those results. What if I wanted to base the paginate condition on all the

[RFC] Speculative Execution Side Effect Suppression for Mitigating Load Value Injection
Hi everyone, Some Intel processors have a newly disclosed vulnerability named Load Value Injection. Multi apps in one Mongrel instance
Hi, It would be nice if Mongrel would do multiapps in one Mongrel instance. For the moment, I have one Mongrel for each app of my server, each on a different port. For example: http://server:8080/app1 http://server:8080/app2 instead of: http://server:8080/ http://server:8081/ Is that planned? Thanks. -jec -- JeSC - Software et Consulting Jean-Eric Cuendet Ing?nieur HES en

[RFC] Speculative Execution Side Effect Suppression for Mitigating Load Value Injection
Hi everyone! I want to clarify the purpose and design of SESES. Thus far, I've characterized it as an LVI mitigation which is somewhat incorrect. SESES was built as a "big hammer." It is intended to protect against many side channel vulnerabilities (Spectre v1, Spectre v4, LVI, etc, etc) even though it was built in response to LVI. For folks protecting against LVI, this is an

Oracle and MySql simultaneously from rails app
I searched this site on Oracle && MySql, nothing came up, so perhaps this is a new topic for this forum. I''d like to access two databases from the same application simultaneously (well, more precisely, in rapid succession, calling one first and then the other, as any "joins" will be done in the application code). One database is in MySql, the other is Oracle.

Multiple apps on the same server, all should be able to survive slashdotting
Dear all, I am researching solutions for "how do you squeeze as many Rails apps as you can on a cluster" problem. Environment constraints are as follows: * 4 commodity web servers (2 CPUs, 8 Gb of RAM each) * shared file storage and database (big, fast, not a bottleneck) * multiple Rails apps running on it * normally, the load is insignificant, but from time to time any of these apps

[RFC] Speculative Execution Side Effect Suppression for Mitigating Load Value Injection
I'm also a bit unclear on that point. I think one input here has to be: what are some example, existing codebases we want to mitigate, and what should the user experience be to mitigate them? I don't think we can make good engineering tradeoffs without having concrete use cases to evaluate. Another point: it seems some mitigation options have already been added to the GNU toolchain
