Creating a comments system for multiple types of content
Hi all
My site has news entries, it has a party calendar and it has a blog.
Now I''d like to create a commenting system that in fact is quite simple,
but I wanna use it for all these 3 types of content.
My question: how can I do that? I maybe could add an association to all
three types in the comment model:
class Comment < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :news_item
belongs_to

Overwrite form helper methods and call old ones in new ones?
Hi all
All my forms should look the same, so I think always putting the right
div etc. tags around them is a violation of the DRY principle.
Until now my forms look like that:
<div class="text_field">
<label for="news_item_subject">Subject:</label> <%= text_field
"news_item", "subject" %>
</div>
Now I want the default

What helper makes "News Item" out of "news_item"?
Hi all
Look at the title, I guess you know what I mean... What helper makes the
attribute names of tables human readable?
news_item >> News Item
name >> Name
etc.
Thanks for info :-)

model-controller-paradigm: What about admin controllers?
Hi all
We all know the model-controller-paradigm: I have a model "News" which
has a corresponding CRUD-controller "NewsController".
But now I''m quite unsure about the following...
Guess we have normal visitors that visit our site www.??.com/news and we
have administrators that create and modify news items.
The admin should see an "Edit" link and a

specing a call to render :layout => "some_layout"
I''m trying to specify that an action should be rendered with a given layout
one particular spec.
What I''ve got at the moment is this.
it "should render with the grabber layout" do
controller.should_receive( :render ).with( :layout => "my_layout" )
do_get
end
This doesnt work even though this call to render is being executed.

pass hash as parameter
Hello,
How can I pass a hash as parameter from a template with url_for?
e.g. : if I have
test = { :a => "a", :b => "b" }
How can I pass that with my request? Is it possible to pass nested
hash''es to?
Right now,
url_for :action => :test, test
doesn''t seem to work.
Thank you,

url_for in tests
Hi there,
I''ve added an extra bunch of testing features for doing in-browser
testing with Selenium, and am having quite a time figuring out how to
use url_for with having a controller object present. I''ve tried using
ActionController::Base.url_for and
ActionView::Helpers::UrlHelper.url_for but haven''t been able to get
something that works.
What I want to be able

Layout() coordinates and drawing lines / segments
Hello,
I am trying to wrap my head around the coordinates systems associated with
the layout() function ...with the end goal of simply drawing a decorative
line in the upper margin of my figure, which is composed of three plots.
My output is defined as this:

url_for always escape string.
according to the documentation, only the url_for from ActionView escape
the
URL.
which happens on this line
escape ? html_escape(url) : url
and can be prevented by passing :escape =>
false to url_for.
still according to the documentation, the url_for from ActionController
is not supposed to escape the url.
BUT IT DOES.
at the moment of this line
escape ? html_escape(url) : url

Using url_for in ActionMailer templates
Hi All
I am just adding some basic e-mail notices to my Rails app using
ActionMailer, and have one small issue. I want to provide a
confirmation URL to users who sign up for an account. I can obviously
just hardcode the URL and append the confirmation code to it, but I''d
much rather be able to use something like:
url_for(:controller => ''authentication'', :action

url_for params
Hi,
url_for has a nice way of using the current ''params'' object to fill in default
parameters in a route. For example,
map.connect '':controller/:action/:id/''
with <%= url_for :action => ''my_action'' %> will redirect to the current
controller. All very good.
However, I sometimes want a url_for() which includes current parameters

url_for In a Component?
When I try to use url_for within a component I get the following:
NoMethodError in LinkController#get_links
undefined method `url_for'' for Navbar::LinkController:Class
The API docs show url_for as a public method of ActionController::Base.
Since my component is derived from ActionController::Base shouldn''t
url_for be available within the class?
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Controller url_for modifies request object?
Hi,
In my controller, I do something like this:
MyMailer.deliver_signup_notification(url_for(:subdomain =>
account.subdomain, :controller => ''hello''))
And a few lines later:
redirect_to :action => ''index''
Much to my confusion, the redirect routes me to the subdomain used in
the url_for. I''ve tried
redirect_to :action =>

render :update problem with IE 9
Hi,
I have a legacy web site based on ruby on rails 3.0.9 which works just fine
with Firefox, chrome and IE 8, but I receive an HTTP 406 error every time
when I check the web site with Internet Explorer 9. I narrowed down the
problem to the respond_to + format.js + render :update trio, but I did not
manage to solve the problem until now.
I created a small example for reproduction:
