File locking problems and duplicate emails with the snarf plugin
Two weeks ago we switched all our IMAP users (around 25,000) from the
Washington IMAP server to Dovecot, and since then there have been
several occasions when reading new email just hangs, and duplicate
emails appear. We are using the 'snarf' plugin to copy new email to the
inbox, and it looks as though the problems are caused by file locking.
We have been using the Washington IMAP server

Stale NFS file handle and duplicated messages
We recently moved all our users from the Washington IMAP server to
Dovecot. There has been a substantial improvement in performance, but
some users are reporting duplicate messages, and we see 'Stale NFS file
handle' errors in the syslog. Does anyone know what would cause this ?
The errors relate to the index file, eg.

cannot delete emails in inbox
I am working on upgrading our current squirrelmail and replace uw-imap with dovecot.? I have what looks like a successful installation.? My current setup is:
Centos 5.2
sendmail 8.13.8
dovecot 1.1.17 (imap)
squirrelmail 1.4.17
I can send and receive email fine.? However when I try to delete an email in my Inbox, it doesn't get deleted.? It only sends a copy to the Trash folder.? But the

/var/spool/mail directory size and subdirectories
(Complete newbie to dovecot. I hope what follows isn't something I've
missed in some FAQ somewhere...)
On a traditional UNIX filesystem with UW-IMAP several years ago, we
encountered major performance problems when "/var/spool/mail/" got big (we
would currently be ~20,000 entries). This was due to the inefficiency of
the UNIX filesystem when creating and deleting the lockfiles

Independent Components Analysis
A colleague suggested that some R software was available for estimating
"Independent Components Analysis" (ICA) (... signal separation).
If so, I''d appreciate any pointers .

Email client dowloads previously read messages as new during migration.
I am migrating from UW to dovecot and using mbox. I have been able to find
mbox to maildir migration information and tools; however, I have had little
luck finding any tool or information for performing such a migration where I
wish to keep mbox. ( I know I should migrate to MailDir, but in the case I
wish to take baby steps.)
I have setup dovecot pop3 communication and I go to my email client

Help
Hi to all,
We are a bit of newbes to imap etc, so may be we just not doing it
right. Nevertheless,
We have compiled dovecot to run under Solaris 8/9 for IPv6 test. We are
going crazy.
After a successful compilation, the troubles really began.
Solaris 9
1. Every?time we reboot- the directory /var/run/dovecot/auth is gone
????
2. After the dir is created manually, the server starts.

Can Dovecot 'slurp' into the INBOX from a mail spool file?
Hi guys,
I have a system whereby I am forced to deal with mbox files of
/var/spool/mail/user1 (mbox text file)
/var/spool/mail/user2 (mbox text file)
etc
Their mail homes are maildir format in:
/home/user1/Maildir/{cur,new,tmp}
/home/user2/Maildir/{cur,new,tmp}
etc
I can set things up so that the mbox inbox is shown using namespaces:
namespace private {
separator = /
prefix =

Dovecot LDA munging INBOX access times?
We are running Dovecot 1.0.0 using mbox format (currently in the midst
of conversion from UW IMAP). We discovered today that the Dovecot LDA
is accessing the user's INBOX at delivery time! Not only do our users
rely on this access time being when they last accessed their e-mail,
we also rely on it to migrate "inactive" users to cheaper disk.
I consider this a major bug for us and

Inbox re-initialized
Hi folks,
I just replaced my mail server's UW-imap with dovecot yesterday. I use
the following folder setting
default_mail_env =
mbox:/asiaa/home/%u/:/asiaa/home/%u/mail/:INBOX=/var/mail/%u:INDEX=/asiaa/home/%u/mail/dovecot_indexes
This is a Scientific linux 4.2 with dovecot 0.99.11-2 .
Now today the server loading is highly reduced because of the pop3
session impact is low. But users

Word and samba
Greetings Group
I think the Word crashing problem is quite common and does not confine
itself to Samba as PDC. Running Word with any file open on a Samba server
seems to invite trouble and file trashing.
This seems to more of a problem with Win2000 and XP than Win9X and NT. I
suspect that Micorsoft have "improved" the code to "optimise" performance

understanding behavior of "merge"
I'm trying to bootstrap resample from a repeated measures dataset. I sample
a vector of "ID"'s from my dataframe with replacement.
Then I merge this back with my dataframe.
I'm re-sampling subjects in the dataset rather than rows of the data.
I thought I could use the left/right join features of the merge to select
the records I want from the dataframe (mydataframe), like

Trusted domains with ldapsam_compat in samba 3
Hi all :-)
We are currently hosting a SAMBA domain that provides login & file
serving for public clusters around the university campus. We are using
Samba 3.0.10, with an LDAP server that uses a samba 2.x schema.
A department would now like to trust our domain for authentication, and
use their own domain to administer their windows boxes. Will we be able
to create a domain trust account

Testing Specific Hypothesis
Hi All!
I am interested in testing whether the means for the data I am investigating
are equal to a specific value - let's say 0.01. I have already run a
one-way ANOVA and know that the differences in the means are not
significant, so now I want to know what values the means take on. "otestme"
is the data I am working with (it would be hard for me to get into a form

SAMBA AND PRINTING
Hi.
I'm sharing printers over samba, and I would like to know if there is a
way for a samba server to behave like a Windows Server, that is, when I
install a remote printer, it installs the respective drivers. When I
connect to a samba printer, it tells me that the server has no suitable
NULL printer drivers.
Is there a way to configure samba to do that?
Thanks

Premature termination of script
I am fairly new to R and I am writing a script that would take a file, as an
input, and generates a bunch of graphs out of it. My first task is to be
sure that the file is of the right type by looking if there is a valid
barcode in it as in (the barcode is beetween a double and single
underscore):

Processing a list of fit objects
Hi, I have a list of fit objects (fit objects from HMISC functions)
I create elements in the list in this way
lrm.sumtot <- lrm( ae7bepn ~ trarm + sumtot , data=sd.fix)
lrm.list[['lrm.sumtot']] <- lrm.sumtot
And I can run (anova(lrm.sumtot))
The following also gives the anova I'd expect
zz <- lrm.list[['lrm.sumtot']];anova(zz)
And similarly for the summary
