Yesterday I had to recover an e-mail which a user had deleted. If I understand this correctly the message was expunged but not purged (doveadm purge had not been run). This e-mail was clearly still in the mdbox stored with zlib compression as I could tell using the doveadm dump command (doveadm dump -t dbox filename). Hello Dovecoters, I am using dovecot-2.2.10-8.el7.x86_64 on RHEL 7.4 When I backup mdboxes (using SIS) using this command doveadm -Dv -o plugin/quota= sync -1f -u user1 at user.com mdbox:/mailbackup/user1 mails get backedup but all m files are not copied. Last file copied is m.4 If I run the command again I get below error I tried with doveadm backup command as well (many times).

I am interested in finding out your experiences with using the dbox format (especially mdbox) if you use this format. I am contemplating changing my maildir setup to mdbox but I still need to make a case for it against maildir which has become a de-facto standard and provides sort of a secure basis in case of software changes. If I remove sis from mail_attachment_fs will the old mails that are stored in SIS-storage still be accessible? I'm facing some issues on mdbox based backups. Backups are failing with dbox corruption messages. SiS is the greatest advantage though. However backups integrity is very important. If SiS/Deduplication is not a requirement stick to Maildir. It's apparent I have some level of corruption in my mailboxes - something to do with the combination of mdbox, sis, and zlib. I should note that I know I have a mix of compressed and raw messages - if that makes any difference in identifying the problems. I think I need to somehow regenerate the mailboxes with issues. Hello Actually we use MBOX format for all our IMAP access but users complain they cannot create subfolders in imap folders, of course they cannot because of MBOX format ...
