imap processes eating IO
[Ignore the previous e-mail, I somehow sent it when I was trying to
paste from clipboard]
I recently migrated my dovecot/postfix setup to a new machine. After
doing so, I have encountered a problem where imap processes get stuck in
a loop eating loads of IO on the machine. Looking at the trace (snippet
below), it looks like they are sitting and reading the inbox and other
folders of

Excessive dovecot-auth proceses
Hi Guys,
I may have missed something in the conf file but while using a standard
mysql auth method I'm finding many dovecot-auth processing sitting doing
nothing. They grow to the extent that mysql runs out of connections
after a week.
Any ideas?
Regards
Andrew

dir.xiph.org only listing Ogg streams
Hi There,
The nice thing of dir.xiph.org [http://dir.xiph.org/] was the fact that it
supported more or less all formats, this way we were able to send out
different formats, where the listener was able to choose his appriciated
format from and listen to it, also the way it all got listed made it very
easy for a listener to see all te streams from one station in the different
formats.

dir.xiph.org only listing Ogg streams
I decided recently to change my stream from Ogg to AAC+ because I have a
limited upload bandwidth and I wish to provide the best sound quality at
low bitrates. If Ogg was as good ias AAC+ then I would definately use
it.
I'm apposed to this decision and I think it is a very bad idea. It is
only the xiph directory where my potential listeners come from. I will
have to switch to using

Accumulating CPU load from Xorg process with DRI3
I'm aware of this issue, and am experiencing it myself.
The issue is that drmmode_event_handler takes up more and more CPU
time. It seems like some events are being "left behind". I haven't had
time to debug it further yet though.
I also have DRI3 enabled, but only very rarely do I make use of my
secondary GPUs, and I'm pretty sure I've seen the problem happen

dir.xiph.org only listing Ogg streams
Everyone,
I have modified the yp cgi script on dir.xiph.org to reject non-ogg
streams. As the site has grown in popularity, it hasn't scaled well,
and maintaining the database was eating most of the resources on the
server. We did some minor tuning a few months ago which helped, but
the load has continuted to grow and was affecting other more essential
services.
Given Xiph.org's

Accumulating CPU load from Xorg process with DRI3
I observed this bug for quite some time, but so far I workarounded it
with just setting DRI2 (default) in xorg.conf.d/20-nouveau.conf
Now with two GPU i iwsh to use DRI3, so right now it set up like this:
cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-nouveau.conf
Section "Device"
Identifier "Card0"
Driver "nouveau"
Option "PageFlip" "1"

stuck process continues under strace
Hello,
I have a few VPSes with centos5 on which I expirience a strange phenomen:
Every now and then a random network communicating process (lynx, sendmail,
httpd, ...) starts eating 100% of cpu while doing nothing. That slows down
a VPS a lot.
When examined with lsof, all of such processes have at least one tcp
connection in close_wait state. Touching such process with strace -p makes
it spring

I am a big biased. AFAIK it is written in Perl. I am very happy that I did not need to use Perl since 18 years now.

Bug (?) while listing imap folder
Dear All,
I think I've hit a bug after migrating our mail server to the newest
version of dovecot (version 2.2.15). When I try to list all imap folders
for one user the imap process crashes. The listing to a specific folder
(ex. INBOX) works fine, only the "*" crashes.

IMAP server <defunct> (beta 7)
Hi,
We've been using a 0.99 version of Dovecot for nearly a year without
problems, but due to a server death I had to reinstall with the same
configuration as before, but more recent versions of the software, on
different hardware.
This time though, every few days IMAP login and access fails, and the
output of ps ax shows entries such as [imap-login] <defunct> and

dovecot POP3 log shows too many identical RETR entries
Hello,
Dovecot log is showing too many POP3 RETR entries which are identical
lines. I also suspect that it is causing high pop traffic eating most of
the network bandwidth. Here are some of the lines out of 11009 in a
day. Such pattern is observed only for few users. dovecot version is
2.1.17.

OpenSSH on MIPS (Big Endian) uclibc shows empty directory listing when connected with sftp
I've set up an OpenSSH on my MIPS (Big Endian) uclibc based system .. for development purposes on a qemu environment and for production an a settop box with real hardware. I experienced that sftp connected clients always get an empty directory listing. Same with OpenSSH at all as also with dropbear in combination with OpenSSH's sftp-server binary. More digging into details I checked the

Samba 4.9.4 - high RAM usage - OOM killer
Hi,
It looks like what is happening is the Samba RPC server is forking a
separate process for each NETLOGON connection it accepts. Normally, when
the connection is closed, the child process will be cleaned up. On your
setup, the connections appear to be left open (presumably due to the
constant mail SSO queries), and so the rpc_server processes just
accumulate. You had 669 rpc_server processes,
