FreeBSD pam auth problems
I'm impressed by dovecto and try to upgrade my home system from
wu-imapd running there for last 5 years to dovecot.
It's straghtforward FreeBSD setup with ssl-only auth,
inboxes in /var/mail and user mail under %h/Mail
But I get some strange error:
Fatal: userdb didn't return a home directory, but mail location used
it (%h): %h/Mail:INBOX=/var/mail/%u
Thank you in advance!

Link statically against libc++ on Cray XC 40
Hi folks,
In our scientific simulation tool, we set up our build system to link against LLVMSupport to print stack traces for debugging purposes, also from other compilers. This works very well on most hosts, but we fail to make it work with gcc on a Cray XC 40 cluster. They have a very restrictive toolchain setup (everything is controlled by the “module” command; you never get to see any real

ZFS Index corruption and Connection reset by peer
Hello,
I'm currently using dovecot 1.2.11 on FreeBSD 8.0 with ZFS filesystems.
So far, so good, it works quite nicely, but I have a couple glitches.
Each user has his own zfs partition, mounted on /home/<user> (easier
to set per user quotas) and mail is stored in their home.
From day one, when people check their mail via imap, a lot of indexes
corruption occured :

Slightly OT : Maildir format (silly) questions
Hello,
I was asking what was the motivation for not having the envelope From in the
Maildir format, as defined in the qmail spec :
"The message is delivered without an extra UUCP-
style From_ line, without any >From quoting, and without an
extra blank line at the end."
which may sound silly since we lose an important piece of information.
Same question about the motivation in

string expansion *in* dovecot config?
hi all,
is it possible to define/use 'MACROS' (string expansion, ala Exim) in dovecot's
config file?
specifically, e.g. --
rather than:
login_executable = /some/crazy/path/to/dovecot/libexec/dovecot/imap-login
i'd LIKE to do something like
MY_PATH = /some/crazy/path/to
login_executable = MY_PATH/dovecot/libexec/dovecot/imap-login

$IP not getting set?
Using dovecot 2.0.13. I went to implement relay-ctrl per directions
on the Wiki, and failed. After running it down, as best as I can
determine, the problem is that the $IP variable is not getting set (and
thus not re-set in the script wrapper). I plunked a "set >> debug"
into the script, and the only env var's that are set are as listed below
(slightly sanitized for public

Setting up a 'rootless' server - user and auth_user cannot be the same
I am trying to follow http://wiki.dovecot.org/HowTo/Rootless to set up
a personal dovecot server that does not use 'root' and does not need
to change uids/gids. I'm trying to set it up on a Cygwin personal
system.
The problem I'm running into though, the directions say to set "user"
and "auth_user" to be the same in this setup. However when you do
this, Dovecot

data<-read.table("/my_path/file.dat",header=T, sep="\t")
barplot(as.matrix(data),log="y",beside=TRUE,main="my_title", xlab="x name",

How can I add the values on each bar?
Thanks..

passwd authentication issues (ATTN: Petar)
Hi, Petar,
For whatever reason, I didn't see your most recent reply until I checked the web archives.
To answer your questions...
Is my dovecot running chrooted? Not that I know of. However, the option to (apparently) decide this is confusing at best. Here is what I have entered.
# chroot login process to the login_dir. Only reason not to do this is if you
# wish to run the whole

Setting up a local shared mailbox
One: I have never set up an IMAP server before, so I thought I would ask
first before blindly stumbling around. The problem I am want to solve is
this: my wife and I have a "joint" email account that we both want to access
(we also have our own personal accounts, but that's beside the point.) I
posed the question to my local LUG, and several suggested setting up a local

Mails don't get deleted after POP3
Hi, there!
Well, I am new to dovecot, so please be patient with me:
I have a virtual server and want to setup simple mail delivery.
postfix, saslauthd and dovecot basically work fine.
The only open issue is, that (I guess) dovecot doesn't remove the
mail when it's retrieved via pop3 from the server.
It keeps sending me the same emails again and again.
(The mail client (Thunderbird) is

beta8: core, signal 11
Timo,
The gdb analysis is attached. It looks like memory got seriously
stomped in this core dump. There was no assert or other useful
information in the syslog. My setup: Solaris 9, imap and imaps,
mbox format, INBOXes NFS mounted, index files on local ufs
filesystem, beta8 configured like so:
VERSION=1.0.beta8
CC=gcc CFLAGS="-g -O" CPPFLAGS=-I/opt/openssl/include
