A plugin inside an engine
In Rails 3, is it possible to have a plugin inside an engine?
Adding the lib dir of the plugin to autoload_paths doesn''t seem to
work.
I can manage to load it by adding that path to $: and requiring the
init.rb file, but I''m not sure that''s the correct approach.
Thanks!

undefined method `load_paths=' for Dependencies:Module
I''ve been working on an app, and had a friend check it out to his
machine. I''ve got rails and all my plugins set up with svn:externals,
so when he svn ups it he gets all the latest stuff. I''ve just svn
up''d both machines so we''re running the same versions of everything.
We''re also running the same version of ruby (1.8.4). As far as I can

engines: accessing classes from the hosting-apps lib
I have an engine and can access model-classes of the hosting app without
any troubles.
But when I try to access classes that are defined in the lib-directory of
the hosting app, they are not found and I get a
uninitialized constant Redmine
where Redmine is a module defined in the lib-directory of the hosting app.
The lib-directory has added this dir to the autoload_paths, but the engine

Is require_dependency supposed to be a public API?
If so, shouldn''t it be documented in the Rails API?
Or is there a better way to allow class reloading of my files under lib.
I mean, I know about config.autoload_paths, but I want to be explicit
about my requires. I just want to be able to reload then on each request
when I''m working on them.
require_dependency seems to do just that but I''m worried since it is not

db:migrate fails after upgrade to Rails 2.3.5
Hi -- I''m upgrading an app from Rails 2.0.2 to 2.3.5 in development on
a Mac OS/X Leopard. I unfroze the old Rails files, froze the 2.3.5
gem on the machine into the app, and some quick tests of the app
showed no problems.
However, after trying to run rake db:migrate, it fails silently. Run
with trace I get the output below. I gather it might be related to
plugin initialization or

problem with using any_instance
Hey all,
I have a question with using mocha in my tests.
In the same test file, I have two tests,
<code>
def test_a
klass.any_instance.stubs(:method_name).returns("something")
klass.new.method_name
...
end
def test_b
...
klass.new.method_name
...
end

where klass is some class
when the tests run, test _a passes, but test_b had an error like this:

Understanding the Rails /lib/ Directory
I am trying to learn how the Rails /lib/ directory works - and how to
reference variables defined in a file placed in the the /lib/
directory for use in a View.
I have a file called helloworld.rb and it''s saved in the /lib/
directory in my Rails application.
The helloworld.rb file has the following code:
module HelloWorld
def hello
@howdy = "Hello World!"

Overly aggressive constant unloading of Rails 3.0
In Rails 3.0 (both RC and edge), any constant that''s defined while loading a
file in development mode will get unloaded on each request, regardless of
whether it comes from an autoload path in the application or from external
code such as a gem.
Example file (tested on a fresh edge app):
# kittens.rb
require ''nibbler/json'' # "nibbler" is a gem specified

rack problems
I''m having some issues running rake commands for puppet dashboard.
Here is one of the symptoms (see below). I''m a little new to setting
up rails/rack applications, so I may be making a common mistake. It
looks like gems are already packaged with dashboard, specifically
rack-1.01. Should that gem just work out of the box?
Command:
rake RAILS_ENV=production reports:prune upto=1

Having trouble getting Edge Rails running
Hello,
I''ve been playing with this for hours, and got through a couple glitches
(e.g. updating to Ruby 1.8.4) but this one is well beyond my N00b
skills. When trying to run script/server I get:

Running the same application multiple times with different enevironments
Hi!
I have an application that needs to be run on multiple virtual hosts
(Apache2) with each instance having it''s own environment / database.
Using dispatch.cgi I simply configure two virtual hosts pointing to the
same application path and just add a "SetEnv RAILS_ENV
<environment_name>" to each virtual host section in the Apache
configuration. But with FastCGI /
